UEFA Champions League (2023/24)

I think City and Bayern will progress.

Sorry Arsenal supporters :kp

Great night of football in store.

Getting to penalties would be massive for Real as they should have been knocked out by now.

Darn, City didn't deserve to go out, Real find a way yet again in the CL.

Today was victory for football heritage. An European giant like Bayern Munich knocking out Arsenal, a team with no European history. Then the greatest European club Real Madrid knocking out the plastic club Man City. Today is a great day for football!

Real Madrid shows yet again that who is the Boss of bigger occasions.champion team

SO Bayern triumphed against Arsenal. 2 Superb games of football we have seen yesterday especially that Madrid vs city game.

Manchester City deserved it, but as we all know, Real Madrid usually pulls off miracles when no one expects them to, and that is exactly what happened this time. Manchester City's possession was impressive, and Real Madrid struggled to keep the ball with them, and that was something I hadn't seen for a long time. For that only, Manchester City deserved this win. Manchester City made only three mistakes:1. keeping Haaland on the pitch for more than 5 minutes.2. Not subbing out Grealish after seeing that he is under pressure and unable to cross the ball at all. I mean, he was too predictable.3. Not attacking and trying to score from outside the box.

Today was victory for football heritage. An European giant like Bayern Munich knocking out Arsenal, a team with no European history. Then the greatest European club Real Madrid knocking out the plastic club Man City. Today is a great day for football!
And fans of United finding peace in the defeats of Arsenal and City even though both clubs are miles better than them and will remain in the foreseeable future. This is also football heritage.

Barcelona fined by Uefa after racist behaviour from fans at Paris St-Germain

Barcelona have been fined for racist behaviour and other actions by their fans in their Champions League quarter-final first leg at Paris St-Germain.

In addition to the racism, Uefa also charged Barca over their supporters lighting fireworks and causing damage at the Parc des Princes.

The Spanish club will have to pay a fine of 32,000 euros (£27,000).

Barca won 3-2 in Paris but lost Tuesday's reverse fixture 4-1 at home to go out of the Champions League.

In addition to the fine Barcelona have been banned from selling away tickets to their supporters for their next match in a Uefa competition as punishment for the racist behaviour, although the ban is suspended for a probationary period of one year.

Barcelona must also make contact with Paris St-Germain, who will meet Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League semi-finals, within 30 days to settle the damage caused by supporters in the stadium.

Bayern Munich 2-2 Real Madrid - MATCH REPORT

Vinicius Junior scored twice as Real Madrid came away with a draw in the first leg of their Champions League semi-final tie with Bayern Munich.

The Brazilian took advantage of two errors from Bayern defender Kim Min-jae - beating him for pace and slotting a shot past goalkeeper Manuel Neuer for the opener, before the South Korean fouled Rodrygo in the box and Vinicius put away the resulting penalty.

England captain Harry Kane had netted a penalty of his own, beating goalkeeper Andriy Lunin early in the second half after Jamal Musiala was tripped by Lucas Vazquez in the box.

Minutes before, team-mate Leroy Sane had struck a thunderous effort inside the near post, cancelling out Vinicius' opener.

Control of the game switched hands as Bayern had failed to take advantage of their early dominance before Vinicius was played in behind by a clever Toni Kroos through ball.

Having had six shots and over 60% possession in the first 20 minutes - the best of the chances falling to Sane and Kane - Bayern were behind against the run of play.

But a ruthless four-minute period in the second half turned the game around and the German giants regained their momentum.

They put Real under pressure and were perhaps unfortunate not to have extended their lead.

Kim's mistake - a needless tug on Rodrygo's shirt in the 83rd minute - allowed Real back into the game and they return to the Bernabeu Stadium with home advantage in next Wednesday's second leg.

Dortmund 1-0 PSG Full Time, The Mbappe and company failed to breach the defence of Dortmund today despite having a good 2nd half. So are we moving towards another all german final after 2013?

Niclas Fullkrug scored a brilliant first half winner as Borussia Dortmund beat Paris St-Germain 1-0 in a frenetic first leg of their Champions League semi-final.

The German international used his right foot to expertly bring down a long ball before hammering home with his left foot to give Dortmund a 36th-minute lead.

After a poor first half, PSG missed several chances to equalise in the second, with Kylian Mbappe curling an effort off the inside of the post before Achraf Hakimi struck the woodwork moments later.

Fullkrug should have scored a second after great work down the right flank from on-loan Manchester United winger Jadon Sancho but the striker could only blaze over the bar from five yards out.

In their third Champions League meeting of the season, Dortmund got the better of the Ligue 1 winners with the directness of their play, their aggression and tenacity.

PSG controlled much of the first half but failed to record a shot on target while Dortmund carved out opportunities.

Marcel Sabitzer had a super chance to double Dortmund's lead on the stroke of half-time but his close-range volley was superbly saved by Gianluigi Donnarumma.

PSG manager Luis Enrique rallied his side at the break and Mbappe's first major moment in the game came in the 51st minute with the France captain hitting the post with a trademark cut in from the left.

Moments later the ball fell to former Dortmund right-back Hakimi and his effort, just like Mbappe's, stuck the inside of the opposite post and ran to safety.

Ousmane Dembele, another ex-Dortmund player, blazed a glorious chance over the bar with 10 minutes left while Fullkrug though he deserved a penalty after being nudged in the back when he appeared set to head in Julian Brandt's cross.

Paris St-Germain boss Luis Enrique says his focus is solely on winning the second leg of his side's Champions League semi-final against Borussia Dortmund.

PSG go into Tuesday's clash 1-0 down after a defeat in Dortmund last week.

But rather than focusing on needing to score twice to progress without penalties, Enrique is concentrated on just winning the second leg itself.

"The aim isn't to win by two goals, but to win," said Enrique.

"If you think you have to score two goals that seems like a big target.

"We just want to play and score. If we score in the 89th minute, it will carry on. We don't need to score right away, we just want to win the game."

Niclas Fullkrug's first-half strike separated the two teams at Signal Iduna Park last week in Germany and while Enrique's primary goal is to put PSG in a Champions League semi-final for the first time in three seasons, he has highlighted the risks of potentially focusing too much on trying to settle the game in 90 minutes.

"You could score twice in two minutes, but you could also concede a goal," Enrique added.

"We have to be 100% focused on attack and defence. If we concede a goal, it is not serious, we have to stay calm. If we score twice very quickly, our opponents will have to react.

"It will be an even game with a high level of play on and off the ball, so it will be tough for both teams."

Paris Saint Germain 0-1 Borussia Dortmund - MATCH REPORT

Borussia Dortmund produced a fine away performance to beat Paris St-Germain and reach their first Champions League final since 2013.

Dortmund held a 1-0 advantage following the first leg and doubled their lead when Mats Hummels was left unmarked five yards out to head in from Julian Brandt's right-wing corner.

That goal came just after PSG's Warren Zaire-Emery wasted a glorious chance as he volleyed against the post from close range early in the second half.

PSG hit the upright twice in the opening match in Germany and, after falling 2-0 behind on aggregate, again struck the post through Nuno Mendes.

The hosts thought they had been given a penalty and a potential lifeline when Italian referee Daniele Orsato pointed to the spot, only to instantly change his mind and rule that Hummels' foul on Ousmane Dembele had been just outside the area.

PSG have never been European champions, losing in the 2020 final, and Dortmund produced an excellent defensive display to frustrate the French title winners.

Kylian Mbappe, in his last European match for PSG before joining Real Madrid in the summer, had an effort deflected on to the crossbar, before Vitinha fired against the bar too - the sixth time overall his side had hit the frame of the goal in the tie.

The final will be at Wembley on Saturday, 1 June (20:00 BST) and could be an all-German affair, just as it was in May 2013 when Bayern Munich beat Dortmund 2-1 in London.

Bayern and Real are in the second 2024 semi-final and the first leg ended 2-2 in Germany, with the second leg in Spain on Wednesday (20:00 BST).

Dortmund are aiming to become European champions for the second time in their history after they defeated Juventus 3-1 in the 1997 final.

Real Madrid snatched an incredible semi-final victory as two late goals defeated Bayern Munich and set up a Champions League final with Borussia Dortmund.

Bayern looked to be heading to the final when Alphonso Davies cut in and blasted past Andriy Lunin after England captain Harry Kane had found him with a superb pass.

But Joselu grabbed an 88th-minute equaliser when he reacted quickest after Bayern goalkeeper Manuel Neuer, who had been excellent up until then, fumbled Vinicius Jr's effort.

There was even more drama to come two minutes later when Joselu, a former Stoke City striker, swept home from six yards out from Antonio Rudiger's square pass.

The goal had originally been given as offside only for a video assistant referee decision to show that Joselu was onside, sparking incredible scenes of celebration in the Bernabeu, with Real hanging on to win 4-3 on aggregate.

Real, 14-time European champions, will face Dortmund on Saturday, 1 June at Wembley.

Kane once again bottled it in a big game. Missed a great chance to make it 2-0 and seal the deal, but missed.

Champions League final to see record stewarding numbers

Saturday's Champions League final between Borussia Dortmund and Real Madrid will see the "highest stewarding deployment in Wembley Stadium history".

More than 2,500 stewards will be present with the Football Association investing over £5m towards improving safety and infrastructure in a bid to avoid a repeat of the chaotic scenes which marred England's Euro 2020 final defeat by Italy at the venue three years ago.

An independent review by Baroness Casey in 2021 identified more than 20 "near-misses" that could have resulted in serious injury or death as ticketless fans tried to gain entry to the stadium.

The report added there was a "collective failure" in planning for the match, which saw around 2,000 people enter the stadium illegally.

"One thing in the Euros final was very much the supply of stewarding, which I can say was at a low point off the back of Covid," said Chris Bryant, the FA's director of tournaments and events.

"We're very confident the supply of stewarding which you've seen in the industry has bounced back."

The disorder at Wembley was followed by trouble at the 2022 and 2023 Champions League finals in Paris and Istanbul.

Fans were penned in and teargassed outside Paris' Stade de France two years ago with a Uefa-commissioned report saying "it is remarkable no one lost their life" at the event.

Uefa were then accused of "treating fans like cattle", external as Manchester City supporters were unable to return to their hotels until after 03:00 BST following a late kick-off in Istanbul the following year.

Saturday's showpiece will use a "robust and comprehensive testing plan" regarding digital ticketing and checks, as Uefa and local authorities face pressure to host a trouble-free event.

The FA, which has tested new methods at the Carabao Cup and FA Cup finals, has put money into increased cameras and additional lock systems to doors and gates.

Entrance to Wembley Stadium will be allowed four hours before kick-off instead of two, and Transport for London will run extra services to aid the flow of supporters to and from the ground.

There have also been investments in cameras so security can monitor what is happening at nearby pubs as well as in the stadium, and an increase in the amount of body-cams stewards wear.
