UEFA Champions League (2024/25)

Am not even upset about it tbh. Both legs we just didn’t play well, tactically looked poor, big players were ghosting the tie. PSG just were the better team, first leg especially more so. We did have our chances, Mr Salah had few, VVD had free header, Salah right foot is so weak he had a chance but the psg LW cleared it off the line at the back post.

Overall PSG were more hungry, played at a high speed, we looked fatigued, some of our players looked so off. Gravenbech is not a natural DM but has been made to play it snd has been superb but man is knackered has so much mileage this seasons. This what happens when cheapskate yankie owners dont buy you a natural defensive midfielder.

Slot had a shocker too, he has already shown some favouritism or distrust in some players. Jota who was poor needed to come off for Nunez much earlier, so should Endo for Gravenbech is clearly tired. Chiesa needed to be brought on for Diaz at Left-Wing. Chiesa’s directness, running at speed would have troubled PSG’s right back, big time. Instead he brought on still not fully fit Gakpo on.

It is what it is. Cant win it all. This tie showed what LFC is lacking proper pace and power dm, much better number 9, definitely need a left back and cover for Salah at right wing someone with pace and dribbling skills.

Anyways. Congratulations to PSG. I wouldn’t mind them winning the UCL. It’s about time a team from France won a UCL. But I like Barcelona too, my fav Spanish side, always have been. So will be cheering for Barcelona now.

PSG were the better side over the two legs and deserved to go through

Liverpool have been brilliant this season but this tie does highlight that Slot needs to be backed this summer. He's done an incredible job to cover the cracks of the squad but that isn't fair to expect that to be maintained

Couple of 1st teamers came off to. Konate might be cramp but TAA didn't look great. Evens the final up a bit on the weekend.

I know you guys have been dealt some blows to.

Two very enjoyable and open games to watch. The im surprised at how each game finished 1-0 with amount of chances both teams spurned.

Liverpool played well enough to win the match, really good performance. PSG also deserved some fortune and winning on pens shows little between the teams. Not a bad position for LFC, one cup final and then only the league, hoping to win it soon to enjoy the last few matches as champions.

PSG will tough for Villa and will likely to win this tournament.

We've lost Gordon and Hall, plus no Botman

TAA missing doesn't even it up

If Salah and VVD wake up with the flu on Sunday then we are talking, lol

I'm not sure I agree that winning on pens shows how little there is between the teams

I know xG causes debate but over the two ties it was 1.98 to 5.33

Now I know Alisson is a big factor in that, he was a monster in that first leg and that's his role but overall PSG were on another level

However, as I said a bit above I think it highlights the shortcomings you have at that top, top level. That's where the owners need to back Slot and give him a couple of top signings (not Isak :-) )

I just feel PSG were a tad fresher and it may just be the nature of their league and squad partly as well, LFC have been through it all and the fact that they are still pressing forward for EPL honours in a demanding environment is impressive. However, I wasn’t impressed with the conditioning & energy of the LFC players, apart from Salah, the GK and all the penalty takers were so sloppy and fatigued. The PSG players looked like they were ready to play for another 120 mins.

Yeah I don’t we have a prayer against PSG if we win tonight lol

You never know bro. Unai has a thing for former clubs. Might have a point to prove vs PSG

Over 200 mins , 1-1 aggregate leading to pens usually means both teams are similar in quality in all areas combined. PSG played a lot better than LFC in their home fixtures but both teams failed score more than 1 goal in two legs. I'd say both teams are pretty even, ie if PSG were in the PL they would be near the same points as LFC as imo they are far better than any other PL team.

Liverpool have score more goals than most teams and same goes for PSG, top class defending at times and keeping stopped more goals. There's always a room for improvment and ,maybe a top drawer no.10 who can score free kicks, make goals etc would be great, hence LFC were looking at the likes of Kvaratshekila . Isak is world class but not sure LFC should spend £100m on any player one player atm.

Overall a brand new manager most LFC hoping for top 4 finish and maybe a domestic cup. Liverpool is a great place, CL would have been amazing and its a little disappointing but the league is the golden goose for this club. For the fans to celeberate it properly with these players before some move on would be historic and now its beating up the Magpies , then taking the league early as possible.

PSG rested 8 players, LFC only 3 at the weekend as Premier League is more difficult. Last night after 75 mins, Liverpool had more energy and should have won the game in ET.

Villa wont be a pushover for PSG and I hope Im wrong but I cant see anyone but Real (at their best) stopping them from victory.

Athletico vs Real is nicely balanced, could be extra time and penalties maybe later

Parked the buss in the first half, what a dull sh!t show it was by Villa Park standards, they all deserve the rollocking they got from the better than Arteta manager :yk Really opening up this half, Rashford has insane pace and he has been very selfless in finding Asensio at will!

Villa vs PSG should be interesting tie, two teams who like to play on counter attack. Also two good managers with experience of doing well in European competitions.

Asensio has been an amazing player to get in by Emery

Yeah spot on, after Duran left was a bit concerned but he used the transfer window really well and Rashford has been great so far, hard to see how he couldn’t fit in at United, literally went from battling relegation to battling for the knockouts in the CL :yk

I don’t know mate, PSG might be a bridge too far don’t you think? If we play like we did in the first half today I think the QF will be decided very swiftly. Having said that, what an amazing achievement to make the QF against all odds and reminding everyone know we were the champions in 1982! Some 🤡 said we wouldn’t get this far!

Is Asencio able to play against PSG?

PSG will start as favourites but it just goes to show in Europe its always whar you do in the knockouts not the group stages. PSG were awful in group stages, it's only when they played man city they look decent.

Emery will do his home work as always so he will set you up well in the two games. PSG though will do usual where they will be able to rest players for league games and be fresh. So how Emery rotates in a very busy April will be crucial. PSG could flex their muscles and win tie with ease. However, Emery has show with Seville, villareal, Arsenal and now Villa he knows how to navigate in European competitions. He got Villareal to a CL semi beating juve and Bayern on the way.

You have a FA cup 1/4 which you should win.

The April you would then play an FA Cup semi final, 2 games vs PSG

You also play Brighton, forrest, Newcastle, man city (date change if you play FA cup semi final)

So every game next month will be huge, so interesting to see what is seen as Priority. If you beat Preston, then you get to go to Wembley for semi final. Plus 2 huge games vs PSG. I'd enjoy next month as much as you can.

Villa are under no pressure vs PSG, so can play with freedom.

I think he should be fine under UEFA’s ruling, PSG should not be allowed to veto someone on loan even if the player is not from their club. Hope am not wrong, it has been a long time since it has happened in CL football with a player who starts. But we had Samuel Iling-Junior come on as a substitute against us this season when we played Bolonga.

Yes mate that will be the biggest challenge and a learning curve, just how we rotate the squad because looking at our schedule, every game is a priority! I don’t know what we will have left in the tank by the time we face PSG but I hope the players give it everything as it will be tough to qualify for the CL next season, the FA cup is more within our reach and should be prioritised, but we need to recognise who we are facing. I feel Unai might rest some key players for the FA cup clash, the league games might take more priority along with PSG.

PSG have more games to play before us but they already have the league in the bag and will be fresh for the next round of KO games.

I am more worried about Ollie Watkins though, he didn’t look great yesterday and appeared to have fitness issues, he will for sure be rested for 1-2 matches I would think, has had a long hard season.

Malen is not registered for CL, so I guess this is where he gets game time in FA cup and league. Watkins can be given a few games rest. Plus u got Acensio and rashford who you can use as well

Yeah if you beat Preston then yeah FA cup semi final should take priority. Would be good if Man city got knocked out, so someone different wins the cup.

The 2 CL games should be be an Interesting watch.

Flashback 19 years ago!

One of the greatest of all time and easily Arsenal’s greatest, I grew up watching players like him, goosebumps; you just knew when he got the ball there, even with all them Madrid players marking him he was going to score, he made it look so easy. Such a great player to watch, Arsenal had Madrid on the ropes from the first bell. I also like that Henry got to retire at Arsenal and he scored in one of the games on loan, was like the good ol days @Amjid Javed

Arsenal till 2006 had that fear factor of an elite team, if not for Lehmanns Red card which the referee was a bit harsh by modern standards , Arsenal would had won their maiden UCL

Uefa to discuss penalty rules after Alvarez 'miss'

Uefa says it will discuss the rules around penalties with the game's lawmakers after Julian Alvarez's spot kick was disallowed in Atletico Madrid's Champions League exit.

During a penalty shootout in Atletico's last-16 tie with rivals Real Madrid, Alvarez slipped before scoring past Thibaut Courtois.

However, following a review by the video assistant (VAR) referee, the goal was ruled out becaue the Argentine forward was deemed to have touched the ball twice and Real went through after winning the shootout 4-2.

On Thursday, European football's governing body Uefa said that despite the law being applied correctly in Madrid, it would review the current rules with the International Football Association Board (Ifab) and world governing body Fifa regarding cases where a double touch is "clearly unintentional".

Article 14.1 of Ifab's laws around a penalty states: "The kicker must not play the ball again until it has touched another player."

In a statement, Uefa said: "Under the current rule (Laws of the Game, Law 14.1), the VAR had to call the referee signalling that the goal should be disallowed."

Atletico have lost all six of their penalty shoot-outs against neighbours Real Madrid in all competitions.

I was have a discussions with one of mate about that red card a few days ago.

Arsenal had got to the final playing in a pragmatic defensive fashion. But against a very attack Barca side in final, im not sure if that approach would have worked in a 11 vs 11 game. The referee could have jusr give Barca a goal as the scored, but instead went back and gave the red card. Once Arsenal had the lead with ten men, it was probably going to need that sort of performance to win the game. Its a shame Henry missed the chance to make it 2-0.

If the red card hadn't been given and Arsenal were 1-0 down. I think Arsenal having to chase the game would have meant Barca picking us off.

It was a sad experience seeing us lose especially giving 2 poor goals away after defending well for 70 minutes.

Henry was just another level, this is why when certain fans now label some of current Arsenal players are elite, world class its actually embarrassing.

Arsenal overall at that time were underachievers in Europe and for team they had should have done a lot better at times.

Arsenal lack intimidating players like Campbell, Lauren. Cole & Ljungberg now a days, still they will not be pushovers against Real

Inter Milan always been my serie A italian favourite team since R9 days. They look great these days. Winning against Bayern away isn’t easy.

I backed inter to beat bayern before the tie.

Inter are best side in Europe from a defensive point of view and have attackers who can do damage.

Bayern weren't that good vs celtic last round. So tonight wasn't a shock they lost to inter

This game is having two best goal keepers in the world - Donnarumma and Martinez.

If this goes into penalty shootouts after 2nd leg, that will be fun.

Villa getting a taste of what we went through.

PSG are frightening in how quickly they progress the ball up the field.

According to @optaanalyst Arsenal have the highest chance of the winning the Champions League and Real Madrid have the lowest 😳🏆
