"Ultimately this is a performance-related business" : Wasim Khan when asked about Misbah's future

Interesting answer by Wasim Khan to Saj's question on Misbah's future:

PakPassion.net: Is Misbah-ul-Haq’s role as Head Coach under threat?

Wasim Khan: Look, ultimately this is a performance-related business. The coaches have been in place for 2 years now and people will argue and debate on whether we have made progress or not. As things stand, we will review the outcomes of the England and West Indies series once the West Indies tour is over and we will ask the coaches to present their cases on where they see Pakistan cricket at the moment and the contributions they are making, but it’s important not to keep jumping at knee-jerk reactions as soon as there are changes or we lose a match or a series. Pakistan fans remain loyal as long as we are fighting, and we are showing energy and spirit which is what they expect. If we take that approach more times than not, then we will be successful.

I found it astonishing how the PCB had already booked flight tickets of Misbah/Waqar to Barbados from Manchester giving it away to them that their performances on the England tour will not really jeopardise their jobs.

We have not processed at all in 2 years since Mickey was sacked. If anything, we have gone backwards. Mickey most likely would have won those Test matches against South Africa at home as well, Misbah has done nothing special with this side!

And on what basis was he picked as chief selector and coach? And on what basis was Waqar picked as bowling coach after his 10 previous failures? We still haven’t been given an explanation for that from this incompetent board

IK.

Wasim Khan can't veto what the patron and PM of the country asks him to do

It's about time that coaching staff is revamped and a fresh feel to the cricket be given.

Misbah and Waqar have been around for far too long

Misbah's only performance has been poor excuses he makes after every failure.

White washes against Sri Lanka C at home, pathetic selections (IK senior, M Irfan, Musa Khan!!) to Australian tour and no homework against a team who was coming back from poor South African tour, losses to Zimbabwe at home and away, losses to South Africa B and England C teams.

Zero improvement in any player, batsman or bowler. Zero planning, zero foresight. Old-school defensive mindsets. Playing favourites over deserving players.

Sending debutants for press conference when team shows shambolic performance.

There are countless reasons to finally call it a day on this joke of a tenure.

Hope IK does not intervene when he's approached for Misbah's retention through back-door channels

This is going to be a big daagh on EM/WK tenure. Not sure if there were other better alternatives at the time who applied in 2019 but no doubt there decision to move on from Mickey Arthur was the correct one.

Anything less than a series win in the West Indies in both T20Is and Tests will be disappointing, and it should rightly get Misbah and Waqar sacked from coaching.

Incorrect combinations, lack of improvement with bowlers, and also having a negative influence on the captaincy of Babar Azam, making him a minimalist as opposed to a risk-taker (conserving runs instead of taking wickets type of approach).

Cricket started to return to Pakistan under Najam Sethi.

Sethi bought Zimbabwe, D West Indies team, Sri Lanka team and that also paying out of pocket. No doubt it was still not an easy task and he laid the seeds.

But bringing the likes of South Africa, Australia, England, New Zealand for a full proper series to Pakistan for tests, ODI's and T-20's will be the real deal especially without paying out of pocket. Them coming to Pakistan is only possible because of the likes of EM, WK's efforts and being in charge of Pakistan Cricket.

Saj you should have asked Wasim Khan “On what basis Waqar was selected as bowling coach after 3 successive failures previously?”

I guess that the reply to MUH question covers all as Wasim Khan replied about coach(es) and performance review

Saj you should have asked Wasim Khan “On what basis Waqar was selected as bowling coach after 3 successive failures previously?”

4 failures as a coach, include bowling coach stint of 2005/6

He covers that already in the interview.
