Fitness and control of vocal chords aside, can Pakistan really afford to ignore Umar Akmal? Yes he needs to be put in his place etc but you cannot sideline this player.

Lets hope he gets some sense but I would also like Pak think tank to understand his problems as well.

Discipline issues aside, Akmal does not make the team on merit. The only thing that can be tried with his is to make him open in shorter formats.

so Umar Akmal could potentially re-invent himself by playing as an opener?

Just looking at his performance in his last 10 ODI's...he does not deserve a place in the team.

Then you have his fitness issues. Failing simple fitness tests multiple times. Then, to top it off, blaming Micky Arthur for all his issues and trying to play the 'insulting all of Pakistan' card are more than enough reasons to keep this loser as far away from the team as possible. Can't believe someone even created this thread. It's time to move on from UA until he sorts his issues out and starts taking responsibility for his own failures.

Is this a troll thread or serious😂. How on earth can some1 actually be serious about an umar akmal comeback. I'd honestly rather misbah made a comeback in odis than umar akmal.

No even if you leave aside discipline and motor mouth issues, Umar Akmal averages in the low twenties in the last three years with one solitary fifty. Surely there will be no merit in his selection.

Misbah has retired.

Shehzad rival in that sense?

Shehzad has put his head down and nor for involved in any controversy since Inzi became selector. Umar has been involved in a lot of controversies and has poor form also hasn't helped.

He needs to prove his dedication in the domestic/ FC stage first. The talent is there, atleast a year of layoff and putting up stats as the top scorer can be the only turn of events that could bring him back, like they did for Kamran Akmal as well. He needs to atleast play a FULL season. Junior can still give 5-6 years easy if he changes his priorities, plays all three formats in domestic tournaments and shines as the best which he can do

Unpopular opinion but Pakistan needs an Umar Akmal at 6. We still haven't replaced a Akmal/Afridi/Razzaq type player.

Need a solid hitter at the end.

Hope Fahim can do the job though

If Umar Akmal is the most talented player we have seen in the last decade, he should show it in his stats in the domestics, rake up the numbers for a full season

He needs to go back to domestic cricket and score runs. Also has to improve his fitness. If he does that there is no reason why he can't be recalled for ODIs and tests. In t20s I don't mind him being a regular.

His recent performances have been awful. He has cost Pakistan more matches in his short career than he has won. Add to that his disciplinary issues, we are much better off without him.

He shouldn't come back as a lower order hitter he should be a top 4 batsman and also a no5 in tests as long as his fitness is up to stratch.

If he can manage fitness, he should be the MVP of this side having Azhar clones in even T20!!!!!

Wrong headed, and absolutely hollow head guy tried to bring his Bro in WC squad, otherwise, today he would have been keeping for PAK in LO, while Sarfraz playing QEA.

We win CT without him, so ignoring him is the way forward. Unless there is a significant change in his attitude and game.

Instead of hoping Umar Akmal to improve we should invest in new and younger players.

All that shines isn't gold. Umar's so-called talent is having no talent but fooling people into believing he has some.

I agree, his rant in the World cup 2015 and his complains of coming in at no.5-6 was the last piece of action as a top level player. Since then Sarf was Akmal have had contrasting careers. One goes on to win a global tournament for country while captaining the side, while this guy cannot even win against Biryani

here we go again...

why do people not understand that Umar Akmal averages 29 in his last 49 ODIs!

but forget that, lets bring Umar Akmal back while Haris Sohail and Fahim Ashraf sit on the bench

Umar Akmal when he is on song can hit the ball over extra cover for 6, like he did to Faulkner in the 3rd ODI vs Australia in 2017. That timing and power and ability is not present in anyone else from our team. The man has a poor attitude towards his cricket. Only 1-2 years solid domestic performances can erase the old Umar Akmal. The man has lost all discipline in himself and he is still looking to do it the short-cut way.
The problem is he gets his way too, eventually comes back regardless of what he does. You gotta let him do it and not pay attention to him, the guy is an attention craaving histrionic.
Ignore him like they have ignored Fawad Alam for 2 years, and let him do better than the others before selecting him.

Needs to sort out his head.

Apart from that, obviously a valuable LOI asset. Like MMHS said, we have Azhar Ali clones even in T20s.

His hitting ability is obviously useful but I am not sure if he has the temperament and attitude to succeed at international level...

Any other Test playing nation would have dropped this guy in the middle of the sea after his antics and even worse, his performances with the bat. Blame others as much as you want, at the end of the day, he holds the bat in his hands. Forget HIM. He's gotta go home and get his shinebox. :)
