The guy has been part of the previous year U19 Asia Cup team where he was very wayward and a bit skiddy off the surface but this season he has transformed in to a genuine 140k+ bowler and was scaring Afg batters today with his sheer pace and bounce which is very contrary to the nature of brave Afg batters who are generally not afraid of getting hit in the body but not this time , the guy is something special as he can swing the ball both ways as well.

Just need to add some accuracy to his bowling and reminds me of Musa Khan alot in his bowling.

We also have an upcoming Karachi U17 pacer who clocked 145k like 8 months ago but he for some reason is not in the squad, his name is Rizwan Ullah and he got David Warner out two times in two balls in a practice match before PSL.

Pak needs a bowlers in the Md Asif, Abbas mould who can win you SENA games or even tests at home with skills.

Guys like Abhishek Sharma, Butler, Mitch Marsh etc will
Smoke the pants out of 140 + skillless bowling all day in T20.

What I used to appreciate with Pak bowlers in the past was with pace usually they had good skills , now you guys play anyone who touches 140 I think.

He looks strong, good run up and excellent gather but in my opinion he isnt U19. More like early 20s. He is a cross between Musa and Naseem.

It’s probably the first time ever in U19 cricket history where a team has 4 pacers capable of touching 140k and 2 of them even higher than that in terms of top speed.

I definitely want Umer to make Surya dance around like he did with Afg batters today.

And he is not gun barrel straight like Ali Raza either.

Yes unless they don’t know how to move the ball plus he gets good bounce even on a slow track , I think we definitely have something to look forward in future.
Let's hope he isn't another Naseem, Musa, Arshad, Ehsan, Sameen and 10s of other guys. Overweight and underperforming

Only if he can get good quality coaching which Wahab never had access to in his entire career
What's hurdle was too big, Raza doesnt have to cross deserts to get it right. I am still amazed that Hasnain never got it sorted. I am certain that if I worked with him for an hour, he would get the ball moving. As I advised before, he needs to watch videos of Kepil Dev and try to copy his Wrist action.

But sadly the quickest U19 bowler you have is 5k slower than our slowest U19 pacer this season.

All your age fudged bowlers will be playing T20 leagues in Canada in 5 years time.

Won't make any difference. Maybe Ali Raza can have a career that is almost as good as Shaheen that's about it

Obviously its U19 so age is important but I think the fixation on age damages these young players. He is a good young bowler, but that doesn't always translate well into Professional cricket

We have a poor system that has no real idea how to develop talent in the Professional age. These young players need an income, opportunities on good wickets in good weather against good opposition. Their talent will do the rest.

The story of Pakistan’s pace bowling potentials and their mishandling is both a series of sliding door moments and systemic failures.

Muhammad Musa, in the right context, could have been something. Naseem, correctly developed and brought through, could have been something, instead of being introduced as a flavour of the moment.

It’s not too late to learn our lessons w/ young Umar Zaib.

You know and I know that its not going to happen. As painful as it was, the guy that said they will end up playing for Canada or in the Canadian league was absolutely right.
@topspin
Where are you views on the PK SYSTEM? 🤣🤣🤣

You have just cause to be skeptical, but I’d rather be glass-half-full, brother.

It’s admittedly a fool’s errand to place any hope in Pakistani sporting processes. It is the hope that kills you, but it’s also the hope that makes you keep going.

Let's hope you are right. I like to be proved wrong because PK would actually get some decent talent coming through

How does he compare to Ubaid Shah? Do you think he can he surpass Steve Harmsion?

I've been doing some research before I put down my thoughts on Umar Zaib.

He has been a standout bowler for Abbottabad Region, finishing with excellent figures overall about 15 wickets at an average 15.27 and economy around 4.0 over 7 matches, which highlights his knack for taking regular wickets.

Then, 5-31 against Afghanistan that helped Pakistan secure a big win and clinch a place in the final. He was rightly named Player of the Match for his impact with the ball.

Umar Zaib is quietly shaping into one of Pakistan’s more promising U-19 pace bowling prospects, and his rise feels well earned rather than hyped.

He seems to bowl at a decent pace, and gets good bounce off the pitch. What’s impressive is how quickly he’s made his mark at U-19 level. That 5 wicket haul against Afghanistan in the tri-series was a big moment. It wasn’t just about pace; he bowled smartly, kept hitting the right areas, and handled pressure really well for someone his age.

In domestic U-19 cricket, he’s been pretty consistent too. He picks up wickets regularly and doesn’t leak too many runs, which tells you he understands his job.

He’s still raw, obviously. At times he tries a bit too hard to get wickets and loses his line, but that’s normal for young fast bowlers. The good thing is his action looks smooth and repeatable which makes a big difference going forward.

As always the bigger question is how Pakistan cricket handles him from here. If Umar Zaib is developed patiently and with gradual step-ups, proper workload management, and red-ball exposure, he could become a very solid long-term option.

He’s not the finished product, and he doesn’t need to be right now. But as a Pakistan U-19 bowler who’s already delivering in pressure games, he is definitely one to keep an eye on. Quietly effective, disciplined, and trending in the right direction.

3 wickets for this guy so far in his first 2 overs.. giving away just 3 runs in the final of the U19 tri series against Zimbabwe.

Boy is looking dangerous.

starts his third over and gets another wicket... 4 now for him

Looks quicker than Ali Raza, but need speed guns to be sure.

Even 130-135 kph looks quick with these camera angles.
