US State Dept approves proposed support package for Pakistan’s F-16 fleet

WASHINGTON: The United States has approved $125 million worth of support for Pakistan’s F-16 fleet.

The package includes logistic and technical support for the aircraft flown by the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) and the approval comes days after Prime Minister Imran Khan met with US President Donald Trump at the White House.

Washington, in early 2018, had blocked military aid to Pakistan after Trump accused Islamabad of giving “nothing but lies and deceit” in the war against terrorism.

The potential sale will support US foreign policy and national security “by protecting US technology through the continued presence of US personnel that provide 24/7 end-use monitoring,” a statement by US State Department announcing the Pakistan approval read.

The Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) has also delivered the required certification notifying Congress of this possible sale.

Islamabad had requested the continuation of technical support and logistic services to assist in the oversight of operations in support of the Pakistan Peace Drive advanced F-16 program.

Do countries like USA fund war or help countries denfend themselves? I have this question in my mind because when they provide resources to both the countries and then stop others from having or selling nuclear capaibilitiies.

I heard rumours on the various defence forums too but as far as I can tell there is nothing concrete out there yet.

Logically and using past experience it could be a possibility. The US could also wait until turkeys own upgrade equivalent is ready and let the TAI do the upgrade thus circumventing congress. or they could simply do it themselves. I think India's decision on the S400 will play a part.

We may also finally get our cobras too. I think the role the US wants us to play is to police the peace accord and they will pay for it. Cobras and f16's can be used for that while at the same time sending a message to india...

Pakistan builds its own tanks. What does the navy have anything to do with this? They are not a major arm of the armed forces since Pakistan has a limited coast line.

However we need deals for construction of dams, roads infustructure deals, health care deals.

Explain to me what "deal" needs to be done to build a dam, road or healthcare infrastructure? Modern dams have been built now for over 100 years, it's not a secret how to build them...neither are roads...and healthcare infrastructure models are open for the world to follow.

Contract deal with other countries to build better sufficient infrastructure - like you pointed out dams haven been built over 100 yrs ago and ours are all poor quality - and we require more - as the latest study revealed that Pakistan waste the most water than any other nation - that reported suggested we required more dams.

National hospitals are pathetic - really dirty , with no main doctors actually ever working, just junior doctors working.

Roads we make are so narrow - barely room enough to allow a small out school outdated bus on it, they easily crack open.

Education system is still a joke - really poor quality buildings, outdated books, computer system and even the education structure is again outdated and rubbish. Need to learn from the turks, malaysians, singapore - model. We just copy the U.S/ARAB model without understanding it and just apply it.

Airports are a joke - the new Islamabad one is a joke - till this day - many of the luggage area belts are not operational.
Lets not even talk about PIA- we sit here and say we made emirates- with all the ex PIA emplyees working in UAE, what happened to PIA - was highly recommended in late 80's-early 90's.

Pakistan has failed too many times trying to build infrastructure,now its time to build relationships with countries who have massively rapidly grown past 2-3 decades.

And lets forget about talking about engineering- we simply do not do this and yet its considered the most important aspect of improving civilization.

O yeh pakistan tanks are not worth talking about, like i said no point buying american as the hold too much info back and we do not learn anything from these projects, side with turkey - they make very good military weapons along side aircrafts - as we wont side with Russia over USA in anything, and the Chinese stuff is just above average - nothing special and yet we spend so much.

How many power plants do we have across Pakistan - still haven't sorted this out - i bet you dont want to answer - how many hours does load shedding occur ?
