Who is the better test match opener of the two?

Warner on his day more destructive and capable of changing games in a session but a home track bully who has only performed in one series in South Africa outside of home and on pattas of UAE.

Khawaja has been a consistent performer with bat in last 3-4 years but he has also performed outside of comfort zone in alien conditions and has done well in subcontinent where former has been a sitting duck. While Warner been around for longer time, Khawaja has also been around for quite some time now and has more than decent sample size.

Discuss! :ab

Khawaja if you want to play conservative Cricket.
Warner if you want to play aggressive Cricket.

peak warner was a better batsman, but if khwaja keeps this form going for another year or two and has a good ashes, he could pip warner, but once age hits him I'm guessing his stats will free fall and over a whole career warner will end up slight ahead.

On an Australian pitch, Warner. Almost everywhere else, especially subcontinent, Khawaja.

Thing is that Khawaja's run graph of today is on a positive incline so he looks much better than Warner. Need to see this for a year or 2 before making a judgement

I fear Khawaja much more for the Ashes.

He has been poor here but is in good form now, will be interesting to see how he goes and whether he is able to improve his numbers in England against a rampaging side

Khawaja is far superiour test batsmen in every way. Warner is a modern opener, attacks and if fails no issue.

Khawaja edges this one due to his superior away average but I wouldn't say by much because Warner has the longevity factor as he's played over 100 tests whereas Khawaja is only playing 60th test match.

Question is can a 36 year old Khawaja maintain this form for another 15 to 20 tests?

Khawaja is technically better equipped when it comes to playing in different conditions as he's technically far more sound. Warner isn't bad but he's a poor mans Sehwag.

Usman Khawaja is currently the best opener in the world and yes, overall he's superior to Warner.

In fact, on current form, Australia should definitely give Khawaja another chance at ODIs. The pitches in India obviously suit him and he'd do well at the World Cup, if given the opportunity.

Most international centuries as opener across all formats:

49* - David Warner
45 - Sachin Tendulkar
42 - Chris Gayle
41 - Sanath Jayasuriya
40 - Mathew Hayden
40* - Rohit Sharma

Probably one of the best openers we have ever seen in all three formats. Indeed, he is a modern era great.

Warner by a distance. Ridiculous to even compare khawaja to Warner.. Warner is a class act.

Usman Khawaja believes David Warner will regain the love of the Australian public in retirement, he said at an event in Melbourne:

“Look at all the crap Warnie used to do."

“He got in a lot of trouble, he missed a year of cricket, too, for a drugs ban. People still loved Warnie after he stopped playing."

“I think they’re the same. Warnie was polarising for a lot of people who didn’t love Warnie, whereas there were a lot who did love Warnie. Davey’s in the same boat, and that’s what makes him an entertainer in a lot of ways.”

“If you have a cricket career and score lots of runs as a batsman and stay out of the media and nothing happens, it’s kinda boring."

“So, yes, there might be some people who may want to just think about one incident [Newlands scandal 2018], but he’s done so much more for the game, and I think when he retires people will realise that. You don’t know what you’ve got until it’s gone, and I think that will be the same with Davey.”
