Prior to this visit there was a lot of excitement in Indian media, I heard the Quad's military cooperation would be discussed, China's role in the region would be discussed and the future of Afghanistan.

What I have heard is that India didn't get much out of this visit. Blinken went to India and meddled in their inernal affairs pointing out the human rights violations.

And Arnab Goswami started one of his shows the other day with asking: "Who the hell is Blinken?" He then went on to critisize America, they do this and that in their own country so why speak about India. Apparatnly Indians felt insulted by this, especially when Blinken said this on their own soil.

So to the indian posters here, can you please shed some light on this visit and if you are happy with this, or was this visit not important at all?

Let's keep this thread at the top...

Very interested to hear the Indian Posters point of view on this

Whom did you hear it from? Blinken? Jaishankar? Modi? Biden? Who?

Dont think anyone invited pakistan to the talks.

Arnab Goswami is wrong. Blinken met few civil rights activists, a meeting approved by the MEA. Just like Modi meets a lot of people when he goes to another country.

Go search on google.

Blinken has to make some human rights noises due to some Democratic Party constituents in the US, but neither the US Admin nor the Indian Govt take those noises seriously.

In matters of substance, as External Affairs Minister Jaishankar said “our interests are shared, our concerns are similar, and our convergences are strong.”

Nothing is going to change dramatically in a couple of years, but India and US are inexorably drawing closer.

Naive people with a poor understanding of fundamentals are getting excited by a few human rights utterances by Blinken :))

Didn't read the articles, but the headlines in some top US media are consistent with what Jaishankar said.

Foreign Policy "Can India Make a Play in Afghanistan? Antony Blinken’s visit to New Delhi underscores a new regional “Great Game.”"

The Hill "Blinken calls US-India relationship 'vital' during official visit"

Washington Post "Blinken pulls India closer amid challenges in Afghanistan, China"

Yahoo News "US, India agree to expand multilateral security partnership"

The scenes where people are doing Bhangra for not having your human rights abuses being pointed out on world stage…

If lip service makes you do bhangra, then you have come to the right place (international diplomacy) :))

It was just the usual tea and biscuits followed by the threat from China not that India can do anything about that. The meeting finished with him lecturing Indian's on it's human and minority rights. New bottle old wine.

whoever thinks decisions are made based upon these talks will be in a delusional world. The key factors are already decided by bureaucrats from each side. It's just a show to let out some of it.

What decisions will those be? Even diplomates don't agree on everything then upon leaving they tell the press just tell the sheep this or that. So as I say it was just to sip some tea and taste some cake:inzi2

yeah agreed lol.

What I meant was, both sides of bureaucrats makes their list and whatever issues they can agree upon, will let out on these shows and rest will be hide away from the public.

And then there will be those agendas to keep others happy whether there is any intention to implement or not. As you've said, it's the lip service.
