Veteran Bollywood actor and Dadasaheb
Phalake Award winner Pran Krishan Sikand,
known as Pran, passed away on Friday night at
Lilawati Hospital in Mumbai. He was 93.
Pran, a beloved star of number of hit Hindi
movies such as Half Ticket, Ram aur Shyam,
Zanjeer, Johny Mera Naam, Karz was awarded
with Dadasaheb Phalke award this year. He had
been unwell for the past few years and was
unable to attend National Film Award
ceremony in Delhi. Information and
Broadcasting Minister Manish Tewari had
personally come to Pran’s residence in Mumbai
to honour him.
The actor was admitted to the Lilavati hospital
few days back, after his condition deteriorated.
Famous for his style and on-screen presence,
Pran was credited to bring importance to
villain’s role as that of hero’s. During 70s,
Pran was a part of almost every major hit
Hindi film and was said to be paid more than
lead actors at some instances.
During his 50 years long career in Bollywood,
Pran acted in more than 300 movies. In 2001,
he was awarded by Padma Bhushan, India’s
third highest civilian award from the
Government of India. According to his family
members, his last rites will be conducted on
Saturday at 12 p.m. at Shivaji Park in Dadar.
