The video is painful to watch but Akif's knee seems to buckle and then he is down.

All reports seem to indicate that he will out for a few months.

Clearly he needs the best care there is available but will the PCB doctors be able to help him?

Very sad news. One of our brightest future prospects.

Get well soon buddy

Seems his front foot didn't land straight, rather inwards, towards the stumps, and then stayed there as the rest of his body rotated. Seems quite painful. Sad though as I was hopeful he'd play the QeA trophy. Seems he will miss out on this season completely. Hopefully he'll be ready fit by PSL6

Bad news - he's working with the PCB medics :(

Very sad news, not sure he will be coming back as a fast bowler. He can jogg, walk but bowling fast i am doubtful as it requires jump. I might be wrong but the footage is scary. Get well soon Akif :(

So read a bit and if its ACL as being talked about, it will obviously require a proper diagnosis to understand the extent of damage and then a decision whether a surgery would be required (Most athletes generally do). Some of the top footballers like Shearer, Nistelrooy, Xavi etc faced ACL. The length of their injuries were 1 year, 9 months and 5 months (Xavi required surgery). Even 35 years old Ibrahimovic was able to come back after ACL and is still playing at 39. Also there are multiple cases in NBA and other impact sports as well. So time of recovery depends upon the extent of damage and procedures.

Current procedures are pretty advanced but still all will be dependent upon how well PCB’s medical panel can diagnose as their past track record isnt great. Under normal circumstances now a days success rate is around 90% and an impact sport athlete can come back into action within months. Hopefully PCB can seek consultancy from outside if necessary.

Yes Akif is not a centrally contracted player but PCB needs to manage all the young talent as well as they can which involves looking after their injuries.

Junaid Khan, Umar Gul, Haris Sohail. They've got a stellar record with knee injuries

Fully expect the PCB medics to mess it up and he then has to go abroad to correct their mistakes.

Any updates on the injury/rehab of Akif?

Was really looking forward to see him bowl in the four-day format. Very unfortunate to see him missing out on much needed first class bowling experience.

Balochistan desperately missed him.

So disappointing he missed out on more sporting pitches this season.

Thats not good i expected hin to return before the psl :/

Nothing confirmed as of yet. If no news comes out from any source than PSL draft next month will give some sort of picture based upon if he is retained in the IU squad or not.

From Akif’s takent spotter thread. In rehab.

Good to see him working hard in rehab

Now this kid unlike some others in the hype brigade actually bowls with brains.

Please look after this lad PCB.

I'd rather he misses the PSL, as long as he rehabilitates his knee correctly. Knee ligament injuries, especially for quicks, are no joke.

Thankfully the Islamabad management are pretty smart.

They have a lot of other pacers in the bank too, even without Akif they can field the following pacers in any given match:

Hassan Ali
Chris Jordan
Faheem Ashraf
Musa Khan
Reece Topley
Mohammad Wasim Jr

Given their strong spin contingent, they only need 3 of these guys. Max 4.

Islamabad United’s pacer Akif Javed is recovering from a surgery and will not be available for HBL PSL 6, fast bowler Zeeshan Zameer has been included in the United squad as Akif’s replacement.

Sorry I thought it said he is recovering and will be available

Not great news actually

Zeeshan Zameer is highly rated in terms of raw ingredients (pacy and tall for a 17 year old). Decent swing. I’m eager to see how he develops.

I hope the poor lad is looked after financially

Well that's my interest in PSL6 done then.

Hope Dhani catches the eye but seems more of a red ball bowler.

To me, Akif also seemed like more of a 50 over and red ball bowler. Hopefully he recovers well and is able to play the full QeA trophy this year.

Was looking foward to see akif javed bowl hopefully he recovers fully.A good replacement in zameer shah.

Heaven help anyone once the PCB medics get their hands on them.

Let's see how this goes. My guess, an overseas trip to sort out the mistakes and mess made by PCB medical staff.

It appears, as per Islamabad United, that he will be back for the Abu Dhabi leg of the tournament.

Good news if it materializes. In my opinion he is one of the finest young pace bowling prospects in Pakistan currently so would be a good exposure for him.

Well he missed out on the PSL7 draft but people close to him say that it is likely he will be picked in the additional draft next month.

Maybe a deal has been done with one of the franchises behind the scenes.

I suppose all franchises doing this on the side?

Definitely.

Always plenty of pre-agreed deals between franchises and agents/players all around the world for T20 tournaments.

Do you think Naveen ul haq had a prearranged deal with BPL? And put his name forward for PSL to see how much cash he gets or more?

Not sure.

I'd hope not. If he did, then that doesn't help his reputation at all.

Also needs some legal clauses added in PSL contracts for draftees - Surely this cannot be a bidding war between Leagues? Or is this the future?

And there you go, as if by magic, Akif as predicted has been picked in the additional draft today.

As I said, there are plenty of pre-arranged deals in T20 leagues.

He proberly be warming the bench anyways.

Lahore picking AKIF is not good for him as he rarely will get any game there with so settled attack already.. I wished some other team picked him where he would've got more games to come properly to the scene... He is no more newcomer.. Time to show some game and join PKT.

We needed to keep grooming him... Pak only has 1 left armer in Shaheen after wahab and amir are gone, there are a lot of right armers.. Why not groom a good potential leftie

Well he's been playing in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy recently on a regular basis so it seems he's proved his fitness after working with the coaches at the NHPC.

Hopefully the injury problems are behind him.

I hope not.

I rate the guy. He's got some brains when it comes to bowling. Some nice varieties too.

Do you see him bowling ahead of shaheen,Rauf,Rashid and zaman Khan.but like you stated I would like to see him in the xi and go with all out pace with Rashid in the xi.

Might get some games in I reckon. He'll be competing with some of the fringe bowlers no doubt.
