First time I have watched his fielding closely and I have to say how terrible it is.

I'm not sure if he was having a bad day or whether he is like this all the time.

Dropped a simple catch at slip.

Slow across the ground.

Basic misfields.

Poor ground fielding.

And Sarfaraz quite rightly telling him off.

It's not really his fault. He's a product of the system. It will take some time before they can drill him into something half decent.

Pretty sure it was a day off. He's been pretty consistent in the domestics and took a stunner against scotland.

Could well be a drop in fielding due to the departure of Steve Rixon

Fielding coaches coming and going doesnt suddenly impact fielding. Fielding is an attitude and players improve if they desire to with the right guidance.

Needs to improve in this area. Can't afford any passengers in the field in LO cricket

Pakistan need to fix their junior and domestic coaching to improve fielding. I have seen your U19 teams fielding poorly even in the last WC. These are basics learned at young age and senior coaches wont be able to correct much after you hit your twenties. Because once the pressure is on, you will rely on your muscle memory and go back to old habits.

There should be no mercy in case of poor fielders. If Asif is really a poor fielders, just drop him even if he is a good hitter.

Saj, this isn't the first time he's been terrible. His ground fielding has been very poor since he's coming into the side. He's also dropped catch(es).

This wasn't a one-off.

He is really a poor fielder. He dropped 3 or 4 catches in the tri-series and fumbles too. He really needs to improve.

Definitely an area Mickey will be looking at.

He's made it clear that anyone who can't field will not play for Pakistan.

Its definitely an area that he needs to improve. Maybe he can also improve his fitness.

The Pakistani fielding was a horror show today.

The wonderful victory may have glossed over this but it was unacceptable to see so many misfields and the poor attitude in general.

Hopefully the management adress this quickly, lapses like these will cost the team in crunch matches.

Tbf, Australia also fumbled around in the field today, as the ground wasn't the best for easy pick-ups. Saying that Pakistan was a lot worse.

I don't know why he has been poor in this series. I have seen him take some outstanding catches before.

He had taken some really good catches previously in the PSL and his debut series. I had put him down as one of the better fielders in the side. Obviously he isn't Shadab, Fahim, Fakhar, Malik level but he is definitely around Babar's level. I don't know why he fielded so bad in this series.

He's generally a very good fielder (in all aspects) but he was well below par this series.

Might be a concentration issue. Even during PSL3, generally he was brilliant but he did drop an absolute sitter in the slips against MS, and in doing so gave Sangakarra a reprieve.

Something to keep an eye on.

That's more like it. Seems to prefer taking the difficult catches...

Sorry to say but he made a lot of mistakes in the field today.

But what mistakes did he make today? That's what you said.

Well from what i saw he conceded a 4 at the boundary, had buttery hands at least on a couple of ocassions which allowed a couple of singles to be taken. Small mistakes but small adds up to make big.

But he also saved some runs with brilliant fielding.

That was Imam.

Told you. He's generally a good fielder.

Is he in the right mental state? He should be given time off if he isnt doing well.

After Steve Rixon's exit as fielding coach Pakistan team overall has been zilch in fielding, dropping 2-3 regulation catches every match. It has become the team of 2016 under Azhar Ali.

Whoever is fielding coach needs to get the boot his presence or non-presence is'nt affecting the team well.

He just got affected by a huge personal tragedy. Thats why I am questioning if it was wise to rush him back into the squad

Yes it was a very heartbreaking tragedy, but regardless of that he doesn't have a match winning mentality. Big games will see him fail with the bat as well as in the field. Just watch him bat today.

Needs to be a ban on pakistan players eating oil foods before they go out and field!

Because of what he has been through recently it is not fair to have a go at him.

Far more important things in life than dropping catches.

His lack of improvement in his fielding tells you about his desire and work ethic. Pathetic stuff.

Giving him benifit of the tragedy he must not be playing the world cup and in general what is his role in the team ?

Fielding is all about intent and confidence, but to be fair on Asif Ali, his mind must be else where with the loss of his daughter. I would not blame Asif Ali 100%, more so the people responsible for including him in the team.

His mind is simply else where, and I do not blame him.

Loss of a daughter can effect a mindset for life, Saeed Anwar was top gun before his daughter passed away, after which he just declined.

Had he held onto his catches Australia could have been all out for around 250.

There's no way he's good enough with the bat to offset giving away 25-50 extra runs in the field. That too with easy chances.

Haris will play against India unless Asif scores big today.

It’s not like sarfrazs gloves caused him to drop the ball
He’s got no one to blame but himself
He should kept his eye on the catch

Should be dropped, doesnt matter how much he scores after this.. cant drop easy catches

One of the worst fielders we have ever produced even by our low standards says something. Catches he drops would be taken by normal members of the public. Could go down in history as being the first player ever dropped for his catching ability. Wonder if he's ever caught a cold!:faheem

One of the worst fielders I've ever seen. Makes Danish Kaneria look like the second coming of Jhonty.

Not fair to have a go at him? He shouldn't be here then, he should be at home with his family.

But since he is here and representing Pakistan at a WORLD CUP then he needs to be on top of his game.

* Asif dropped Finch when Finch had scored 26 runs. Finch then scored 56 more runs before getting out.
* Asif dropped Warner when Warner had scored 104 runs. Warner then scored 3 more runs before getting out.

So total cost of drops was 59 runs. Its bad but not too bad like Kamran Akmal level.

Fan not impressed.

At least Kamran had the ability to win you matches on his own and he played in the pre 2015 era.

He is just awful really awful.one of the worst fielder going around.Wahab was very frustrated after that 2nd drop if Pakistan loses today this is going to be his fault.

I think he just lost sight of the grey ball in the grey background. Sometimes it happens but the best teams in the world take these chances 10 out of 10 times. He will have to learn quickly.

told this platform so. His eyes are closed when he catches it. He is worst in fitness

I must bite my lip. I am guessing that all those who are criticizing Asif do not have daughters, let alone have the unfortunate experience in burying their own daughter.

Grow up.

If that is the case he shouldve taken a leave. Simple as that.

It was an unfortunate tragedy but he made the decision to play.

He does not get a pass for his performances ON the field.

That's the problem. You don't drag your personal sit into the game. You take a leave. Everyone has a family to worry about. Need a guy who worries about his less and more about game when he is playing on field.

Total grade A nonsense (and I am being polite). Imran Khan played the 1992 World Cup, despite his mother passing away and effecting him, her death was his inspiration! Remember his winning speech and his cancer hospital? If the world followed your petty ignorant understanding of psychology, Imran Khan would've given up in 1984 - YES - 1984, instead he played, set records, and won the World Cup.

Not defending this guy but there's no real fielding culture all round the team. Nobody likes it. They hate it by the looks of it. Stand quietly in their positions and hope the ball doesn't come their way.

Agreed. He just wasn't good enough, should have been tested properly in pressure situations before being launched into a world cup. This is the wrong time to find out he isn't up to it.

He was pathetic today. Some people here are talking about his daughter, but that can't be used as an excuse for dropping a catch that a club level cricketer wouldn't drop. What happened with his daughter was a tragedy, but you can't escape criticism because of it.

What was someone like him doing in the slips?

We know his fielding isnt great so surely the likes of babar or even hafeez would have been in the key catching positions

Anyway i think he ll be dropped after this shocker of a performance

Thanks for laugh lol. Seriously asif is pathetic. Even if he scores quickly, he is a liability in the field and can drop kohli, root & williamson guaranteed.
