Congratulations to Babar.

2021-22 has been the year when he has broken out and come to his own.

Great to see Babar Azam at such a young age and other sportspersons being recognized for their achievements.

Babar is a superstar. Congratulations to him. Good to see Female Cricketers also getting their due recognition.

What has bismah done to get this award? Her team has been bad and we understand its probably cause of limited funds, but no need to give her an award just for the sake of it.

However, if she did put some special performance than i would like to know and change my opinion.

Babar azam has been given too early, atleast let him reach near retirement age. Had he won an icc torunament at this age than sure

Babar Azam to be given Sitara-i-Imtiaz on 23rd March

Pakistan’s star cricketer Babar Azam is set to receive the prestigious civil award Sitara-e-Imtiaz on 23rd March 2023.

The Government of Pakistan has announced to award Sitara-e-Imtiaz to Pakistan’s all-format captain Babar Azam as an accolade to acknowledge his services for Pakistan’s cricket, both as a captain and a top-performing batter. 28-year-old is the youngest cricketer to receive this national honor, which is a testament to his remarkable achievements with the bat.

The announcement of Babar Azam’s Sitara-e-Imtiaz accolade was made earlier by the Government of Pakistan, and it is now confirmed that he will be receiving the award on 23rd March 2023, along with the celebrations of Pakistan Day. Taking a break from cricket, Babar Azam will be able to receive his award on 23rd March as he will not be participating in the series against Afghanistan starting from 24th March.

The award ceremony on Pakistan Day will serve as a moment of pride and celebration for Babar Azam as well as for cricket enthusiasts in the country. Babar Azam has become a role model for many aspiring cricketers, and this award serves as a testament to his dedication and hard work in the field of cricket.

A PM that has brought shame to Pakistan gifts an award to a player that has brought shame to Pakistan (by continuously loosing tournaments, series, matches).

Lol Babar brought no shame. He deserves every good that comes his way.

Well Deserved. He is Pakistan's best batsman in ODI and Test Cricket. He needs to convert his knocks into match winning ones especially against top opposition.

At this point, I wouldn’t be surprised if they put Babar Azam on the 10,000 Pakistani dollar note.

What has he achieved, apart from statpadding mostly against second string teams in the last few years

Why do people have such an issue with this . It’s the equivalent of being awarded an MBE, and he has been par excellence on the world level for a good few years , is well renowned and respected all over the world for the excellence he has achieved in his field , which just happens to be the most popular sport in Pakistan by a country mile.

As for not winning anything, cricket is a team sport , so not winning an ICC tournament comes down to numerous factors . Has won the (CT).

There are many greats who never won a World Cup . Brian Lara comes to mind !

Give the guy a break and learn to live a little and appreciate what we have , in terms of Babar , who is an asset both on and off the pitch .

Id ignore the haters Hes pakistan best batsman and star player

An award such as this is well deserved Well done babar

Congratulations to Superstar Babar Azam. He has been a star performer for a good few years and scored consistently where ever he's played.

He s commanded respect globally from Supporters, Fellow players, sports Journalists and Commentators.

He will go down as an ATG player without a doubt.

I do feel he should relinquish the captaincy for the good of the team and his career.

Captaincy is not suited to everyone. The likes of Lara gave up for the reasons above.

Pakistan's all-format captain Babar Azam received a Sitara-e-Imtiaz in recognition of his outstanding contribution to Pakistan Cricket. He was given the medal by Governor Punjab Mohammad Baligh Ur Rehman. Babar is the youngest cricketer to have received the Sitara-e-Imtiaz.

Did Inzimam ul Haq, Miandad, Wasim Akram, Younis Khan, Shahid Afridi and Imran Khan all win Sitara Imtiaz?

They are all actual World Cup winners and played a substantial role in Pakistan cricket

Yes they were World Cup Winners. But they played in a team surrounded by star players and they all failed to fulfil there potential, Barring a few. Babar isn't nowhere at the level but he is Pakistan's only recognized World Class Player who has emerged since 2010. Pakistan has produced potential top players but after a few years they fall away. Babar needs to improve his captaincy in all formats, but if we sack him what's next?

Well deserved award. Deserved it this year because he was icc cricketer of the year.

So none of them won the Sitara Imtiaz?

They should wait until players retire before issuing them these awards.

maybe just maybe they didn't deserve it for certain players mentioned. But if you look at his career Imran and Javed should have won the Sitara Imtiaz

Very nice for him and his family.

Agree with those that say these awards should be post-retirement.

Misbah Ul Haq has won a Sitara-E-Imtiaz for what?

A 73 run strike rate in ODI cricket during an era when 350+ was the par score?

Great to see one of Pakistan's best players awarded with this. His achievements are there for all to see.

3-0 home defeat against England

Not sure who the awards commission is? Maybe it’s Rameez Raja and Tanvir Ahmed

I am not sure if your comments are serious or you just troll playing the character of Akshay Kumar in your picture. It's hard to take you serious with your hate for Babar.

Babar Azam is a world class player who is topping the rankings. I don't remember any player who has topped the rankings like this from Paksitan and I've been watching actively since 1994. Inzamam and maybe Yousuf were excellent but they never had such respect around the world.

Pakistan just doesn't deserve world class players. Our people can't handle having them probably because they aren't used to it. Maybe we just need to criticize but when it's done with Babar it just sounds ridiculous.

Here is what Babar doesn’t have that others who have not yet won the highest civilian award for Pakistan do have:

-An ICC winners World Cup medal
-Away Test series wins in SENA countries
-10k+ ODI runs
-8k+ Test runs at an average of 50
-20+Test centuries

Give him all the awards you want once he reaches this level

Babar can win a million of these individual awards and his fans can jump up and down like kangaroos but it doesn't change the reality. He's one of the worst Pakistan captains of all-time who oversaw our worst ever home Test season - including our first ever 0-3 home defeat and nearly giftwrapping NZL a Test with his "below the belt" declaration.

He lost two ICC tournament finals - one to a poor SRL team who were 58-5, and the other he was lucky to reach thanks to Dutch team. His own form was appalling in both tournaments - his ICC rankings meant jack then.

He's lucky bilateral internationals are virtually meaningless in this era where top teams routinely rest their best players - I shudder to think how he'd fare in the 90s against those great attacks on more sporting ODI wickets.

Babar's a very good batsman but it's him being placed on a a pedestal that he doesn't deserve that's irritating.

His world-class batting didn't prevent a defeat to Australia or whitewash to England despite some of the flattest pitches. His world-class batting was nowhere to be found in Asia Cup and T20 World Cup. His T20I SR has slowed down year on year since 2020. His captaincy ranks amongst the worst skippers we've ever had.

Iftikhar says it's sinful to criticise Babar, Shaheen tells people on social media to shut up, and his fans are constantly droning on about how he's the greatest Pakistani batsman of all-time (with his grand total of 1 Test ton in SENA) and how we don't deserve world-class players for criticising him.

A clear pointer was given in the last NZ series where under 300 was scored a few times although the wickets were still decent for batting.

Babar in that series against a full strength NZ attack was struggling to score over 70 strike rate its a sign of what would have happened more regularly in previous eras with varied wickets and decent fast bowlers consistently bowling to you.

Well done to Babar for getting this award and hopefully he can do what’s best for the team and step down as captain in test led at least if not another format.?

Way too soon, surely? Even if he’s your favorite player currently, you can see that?

He’s Pakistan’s “star player” for the last few years obviously alongside Shaheen. But these sorts of awards already?

What does this say about our standards on results and performances as a cricketing nation if we’re gifting awards after just a few years of bilateral series performances..?

I hope this doesn’t fuel up his ego.. and in turn actually makes him play with more tenacity.

He won cricketer of the year. This was the perfect year to give him a.national award.

There are many people in pakistan whow win awards do they win for a world cup?

Nooh dastagir won, arshad nadeem won, did they win olympic medals? No

National awards is celebrating your countrys best. You dont give awards only when you win glory.

Babar deserved this cause he was iccs best player for 2022

I have no problem with Azam getting this honour but it would've been more appropriate had he won a major tournament which he hasn't. In fact I don't think he's won Pakistan anything major apart from getting us to the last T20 final.

He's unnecessarily being put on a pedestal for simply winning an ICC award.

Bro, babar did not win the nationalaward for his captiancy did he?

He won it because he was iccs best cricketer accross all formats when he won cricketer of the year award.

Shaheen should had also be given national award last year along with rizwan.

We have levels of civiliam awards and anyone who nakes pakistans name proud is given these awards.

The criteria isnt a world cup, or else no one would be winning these awards.

For pakistanis he is a pride. Ieven if he hasnt won a world cup yet, he has excelled individullay. This has nothing to do with being a babar fan, its The countrys prode that we have created a world class level batsman and was crickter of the year.

Critisizing is a seperate thing, but when people say that national award shouldnt be given to cricketer of the year winner, thats just going over the top.

We have many levels of national awards, i think he hasnt been given the highest civiliam award yet, he has won two levels

Very nice for him and his family.

Agree with those that say these awards should be post-retirement.

I agree too however this seems to be a sub-continental thing.

For example: Virat Kohli's awards

Padma Shri (IAST: padma śrī), also spelled Padma Shree, is the fourth-highest civilian award of the Republic of India,

Congratulations.

He deserves it but probably should've received it after retirement. He is not finished yet.

Misbah Ul Haq has won a Sitara-E-Imtiaz for what?

A 73 run strike rate in ODI cricket during an era when 350+ was the par score?

For leading the country with dignity. For getting the country to no. 1 test status and grtting its hand on the mace. He even won spirit of cricket award, and it was not awarded because he allowed a cricketer who was out to bat, but he won because when Amir and co were caught fixing and Pakistan had hit rock bottom, he lead the nation with dignity and got its respect back. He was war time leader.

After getting spirit of cricket award, it made sense Pakistan also give him a a national award.

Many here dont understand what national awards are and they think these awards should be given when winning a world cup.

National awards have levels. THe highest national award is Nishan - e - Pakistan which is given those who have rendered services of highest distinction" to the national interest of Pakistan. Nishan is awarded to government officials and civilians, including citizens of Pakistan and foreign nationals. Darren Sammy has this award.

Nishan E imtiaz is also another award which is amognst the highest, It is awarded for achievements towards world recognition for Pakistan or outstanding service for the country.

What misbah got was Pride of Performance, The Pride of Performance is the highest national literary award of Pakistan[3] conferred upon its citizens and, while it recognizes literary contribution, it can also be conferred upon foreign nationals. Sports and arts come in the literary category

its not like Babar has been given the Nishan e Pakistan award. Just anotehr excuse to bash Babar and nothing else.

I was never his big fan, but I hate how people find reasons to hate him or not give him awards. Sitate e Imtiaz recognizes individuals who have made an "especially meritorious contribution to the security or national interests of Pakistan, world peace, cultural or other significant public endeavours"

This is what Misbah won after 2018 and won pride of performance in 2014. in 2014 he was serving captain

ICC Cricketer of the Year shouldn't mean that Babar automatically gets this award.

This type of award should really only be for legends in sport.

At the moment Babar is not a legend.

Sitar e imtiaz isnt even the highest civilian award.

I know it isn't.

Regardless, in my opinion these types of awards should be handed out after someone has retired.

This habit of awarding kr recognizing people.once they have retired or prolly not alive to wittness their work being applauded makes no sense.
Mehwish hayat won some award because of representing Pak in a good and homorable.manner so idky babar azam can't be awarded one. He has def made more name for Pak than any other cricketer in recent years. World recognizes him so can we now.

Nothing to take away from Babar Azam but Sitara e imtiaz lost its meaning a little bit when likes of Mehwish Hayat got it last year.

Lols so D Sammy has won the highest possible national award. That's far more hilarious than a stat padder or a failed women captain getting any award.

There should be higher yardstick for these awards.

The only achievement his fans quote is his ICC ranking, which is laughable because it's the least reliable achievement these days. All players who miss even a single game get their points deducted, and every top player except Babar Azam rests for useless bilaterals and hence would not feature at the top of the rankings. That's the reason why David Malan was ICC's No. 1 ranked T20I batsman for longest possible time because no English batsman except him played regularly for England.

Plus, the kind of B and C teams Pakistan has played in bilateral LOI since 2020 on flat modern wickets means we cannot read much into the batsmen stats.

Babars test numbers are not even close to world class and we had the easiest of WTC 2021-23 possible with no SENA tours and flattest home wickets imaginable for 8 games straight (and his random decent score at home or abroad has not even won Pakistan a single game!).

Heck there have been zero bilateral ODI or T20 series played by Pakistan since 2020 against full strength teams of top 6 teams. Maybe New Zealand in 2023 where Babar's SR was 70? In a period we lost 3-0 to Covid struck second string English team, got shot out for 99 against second string Zimbabwe (missing Muzarabami, Raza, Evans etc), got inches close to several defeats vs Netherlands, and hold very poor track record of performance as a team in bilaterals or the ODI Asia Cup.

Babar's T20 WC and Asia Cup stats are very mediocre in these years, the only place he's faced full strength bowling attacks.

We need better examples to celebrate. If you have none from current players, and you have to name one cricketer out of compulsion, at least go for countless world class past players you have sitting at home who've not been recognized by such awards.

So basically Pakistan give awards to serial losers like Misbah for choking in 2007 World T20 final and for Mohali as well because others were fixers? It certainly makes Babar look good imo.

Well the serial loser took Pak cricket to #1 in tests so he was rightly recognized. Afridi and Sarfraz also received these awards the same year.

In India, even cricketers like Pujara, Ishant Sharma and Rahane have received have received the Arjuna award.

again, these are national awards. These are not PCB awards.

National awards criteria is already very high. Domestic toppers dont get awards. For a nation, playing international cricket is a big achievement, thus only international players get these awards.

Darren Sammy got this award because he played an instrumental role in brining cricket to Pakistan. He bought his team and he was quite popular had very good PR and helped create a better image of Pakistan internationally..

Im a fan of Pakistan cricket. So stop this nonsense of his fans or babar fans.

He won cricketers of the year, if he was adjusted as ICC's best player of the year, than getting a national award which is not even the highest one is not a harm. Its better to take a look at the list of winners and you would understand that Babar haas more meaningful contribution than other winner.

The problem is, you guys are failling to understand what national awards are. You think these are cricket awards.

In cricekt awards you are competing with all cricketers, in national awards you are competing with your whole nation that who has done the best for his country in that country for that year.

Unless you can name a Pakistani cricketer who has done better than babar in 2022 and deserved an award, there is no point arguing.

Congratulations Babar. You have taken Pakistan cricket to the new heights.

ICC IT20 team of the year 2021
ICC ODI team of the year 2021
ICC ODI team of the year 2022
ICC Test team of the year 2022
Sir Garfield Sobers trophy 2022
Mens ODI cricketer of the year 2022
Mens ODI cricketer of the year 2021

Is there any other Pakistani cricketer who has won such long list of awards in such a short period of time ?

Now armchair experts will say he did not win the WC for Pakistan, but fail to acknowledge he lead his team into 2 finals and 1 semifinal under his captaincy. There is no doubt he needs to improve his leadership skills, but we should not fail to acknowledge his contribution towards national team in past few years.

Wahab Riaz in an interview:

"Congratulations to Babar Azam for receiving Sitara-e-Imtiaz. Babar is one of the most consistent players in world cricket. I have seen players like Inzamam-ul-Haq and Javed Miandad and we have always admired them, but in near future, people will look at Babar Azam in the same way as they used to watch legend players. It's a big achievement and honour for Babar as he proudly represents Pakistan all over the world through his hard work, dedication and passion"

"It is a part and parcel of life. Where there is love from people, there is criticism as well. People should also understand such things that if Babar needs some improvement at any point, then he should work on it, because in cricket it's a learning process for you every day. No one is perfect at any point, so we pointed out the mistakes made by Babar and if he trying to overcome them, then hats off to him as this will bring more improvement in his game"
