Congratulating his team after the spectacular performance against traditional rivals India, Azam told the players of the Green Army to avoid getting overexcited and focus on winning the World T20 title for Pakistan. In a video shared by the Twitter handle of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Pakistan skipper Azam reminded his teammates that the historic win was a collective effort and not a result of any individual performance.

"Look guys, this win was not a result of any individual performance. We gave a complete team performance and we do not have to let go of this. This is just a start, enjoy it, but do not get over-excited after beating India. We need to look ahead and our focus is to win the T20 World Cup. We will never be relaxed, just look to give your 100 percent. Please, do not get overexcited," Azam said while addressing his teammates in the Pakistani dressing room.

Asked to chase down a 152-run target in the 20-over contest, openers Azam (68) and Rizwan (79) remained unbeaten to make sure Pakistan defeat India by 10 wickets at Dubai. Pakistan's comfortable win over the Kohli-led side was also India's first 10-wicket defeat in the shortest format. "We have a habit of being inconsistent, but please do not do this. We have to change this and it will hopefully. Well done boys for the win against India," Azam added.

I’m generally not one for speeches etc but his talk was excellent

Babar Azam Leadership: Post-match dressing room speech

Babar in absolute command of the dressing room here. Great to see our captain keeping the boys humble, emphasising that there is no ‘I’ in ‘team’ and instilling a new culture of professionalism into Pakistani cricket. He talks about how everyone in the room is collectively responsible for that culture change. Great to see!

This is what you call the mindset of a winner. For all those wondering whether Babar is an inspiring captain, just look at how he performs both on and off the pitch.

I admit I have not seen such leadership qualities in him before. Led from the front today and now this speech and demeanor in this video, he seems to be stepping up into the role more now.

This was good to see. There have been too many occasions where the team has become complacent, this was a big victory, but the focus must still be on the remaining games. Babar was even calming the players down during the post game celebrations. Impressive leadership from him.

One word; “Brilliant”

Shout out to Saqi as well for that pretty good speech/message at the end.

People were writing Babar off as a leader but they forget that he was appointed captain at 25-26 and he's now maturing into that role as he approaches his 30s in a couple years, I predict he's gonna become a really good leader in the next 2-3 years.

Not in T20s. His preference for accumulators/oldies like Malik, Hafeez, Sarfaraz is boggling. Will cost us at some point.

In January against South Africa, there were reports he had to fight with new chief selector to keep Sarfaraz in the team squad over Rohail Nazir.

Not all games will be 150 run chases. They'll require more aggressive batsmen chasing 10-12 an over in some games, or to set competitive scores. We lost to under-resourced (no Faf/Abd) South Africa in just the last game

Interesting to note how Babar points out about the team's history of being up & down and wants this team to be more consistent. I like the self awareness and it's the right mindset this team needs & while people can quibble with his field setting/change of bowlers, he does command respect from the dressing room and there isn't fight over captaincy as we've seen in the past either.

Being the best player on the team helps. No one is goona get in his way and this is why he can ascend to new heights as both captain and player. I feel there’s greater heights ahead for Babar and it will be a privilege to watch his entire career

Yes, but why would Saqlain ask them to clap for reserve players? For helping them in nets?

Because you win or lose as a team, and in a tournament especially, that involves the entire squad. In terms of squad harmony and building a team culture, it is vital the reserve players are pulling in the same direction, appreciated and not moping about or fermenting trouble.

Good stuff.

Staying humble, mature, and professional is the way to go.

MenInG can you add quotes of Saqlain's speech as well? I couldn't understand what he said

Good speech but can he back it up for the rest of the cup? Right now only out top 3 are world class batsmen, hafeez hasnt played for a while and the rest are duds.

Playing 5-6 allrounders is dumb and will come back to bite babars selection.

And babar fighting for sarfaraz who shouldnt be in the team is worrying. Too much politics in the this team

Excellent speech, shezada! Love him. My captain oh captain!

excellent speech, but more importantly its good to see some shift in mindset, this could be an exciting period for pakistan cricket, if we can leave behind past bad habits and apply ourselves as we did yesterday.

Have made no secret of my criticism of Babar's first two years of captaincy. Results have been hit and miss while his tactics, and particularly his selections, have tended to be quite conservative.

However except for giving Hasan Ali a fourth over yesterday, his bowling changes were spot on as was his message here. Hope this is a turning point.

Beware of winning by 10 wickets...

I remember the 1992 world cup, west indies thrashed us by 10 wickets, looked what happened then....they didnt even make semis and the rest is history.....

Side note pak made 220 that night in 50 overs, and only lost 2 wickets. I think it must be a record only 2 wickets lost in an entire one day match!!!!!!!

So let's bare that in mind going forward guys!!!!

Ponting's Australia was also thrashing teams by 10 wickets in the group stage and in the finals as well.

We played very well catching India on a terrible day for them. The goal is to win a very open tournament. Remain level headed as there is a good chance that we could meet India later on in the competition. Too much celebrating could motivate India for if we play them again. I celebrated yesterday by having a few extra drinks...soft drinks that is!:maqsood

Cringeworthy video. Dont know what was excellent in that, or how are any leadership skills being shown? :) Yes good win, but lets not get carreid away by making cringy scripted videos for social media. Probably the PCB trying to show on social media that look how our captain gives out speeches in the dressing room.

Never understood what do they mean by not get over excited? How would you set a limit to the excitement. If we lose the next game, will we blame to over excitement? But if we win than there was no over excitement?

Yes, but why would Saqlain ask them to clap for reserve players? For helping them in nets?

Generally successful teams have healthy atmospheres and dressing rooms where even the bench players feel part of the team and its success.

Saqlain have been part of few other dressing rooms (Recently Eng’s WC19 winning dressing room) so he is well aware of how to make a healthy team culture/environment.

So we should have won by 1 run or 1 wicket:))!!?. We need to forget about this win now and prepare for New Zealand. We owe them a big beating for sure after them walking out on us. They are a good side too powerful in every part of the game.

I would horrified if we didn't reach the SF after yesterday's performance. History shows that one of SL or NZ are always in the SF, make of it what you will

I am really fearing for the Afg game. Everyone has ignored this game and thinking that once we win against NZ the coast is clear.

The Afg game will determine our faith.

Mujeeb and Rashid Khan are 8 overs of quality spin along with nabi's 4 make it 12.

If Malik and Hafeez are to justify their decade long over existence then they have to turn up against the Afg spinners, its what they are in the team for. Afg is a banana skin for all teams, not just us but you are right it could be a real challenge.

Pakistan skipper Babar Azam and former star Misbah-ul-Haq were among those who cautioned the national players against going "overboard" in celebrating the historic win over India as it was only the first match of what remains a challenging T20 World Cup campaign. Pakistan handed a resounding 10-wicket thrashing to India in the much-anticipated match in Dubai on Sunday night, ending a 12-match losing streak against the arch-foes in ICC World Cups. "Let's celebrate, let us go back to the hotel and enjoy this moment with our families but don't forget this match is now over and we must get back on track to preparing for the other matches of the tournament," Babar said to his players in a video posted by the Pakistan Cricket Board.

Babar said that after beating India there would be more expectations from the team now and in order to live up to them, the players will have to work harder.

"I want every player to celebrate this moment tonight but then go back to realising what his role is in the team and what is expected of him in the remaining matches.

"We have not just come here to win against India, we have come here to win the World Cup, always remember that," Babar said.

Misbah, who was forced to resign as head coach of the national team one month before the tournament, said the players must remain focussed on winning the mega-event. Speaking on the A sports Channel with Waqar who also resigned as bowling coach before the tournament, Misbah said, "I just hope we don't go overboard with the celebrations and forget we have more matches to play and win in the World Cup."

Misbah said that the team displayed perfect discipline and executed its plans to perfection against the strong Indian team.

"Now the task is to ensure we continue to play with the same discipline with every player fulfilling his role like he did against India if we are to win the tournament," Misbah added.

Misbah and Waqar both resigned soon after the team returned from a tour of the West Indies.

The development took place a few days after former captain and commentator Ramiz Raja took charge as Pakistan Cricket Board chairman on September 13. Waqar also said Pakistan cricket has a history of celebrating excessively and losing focus.

"This is only the first match and we are still to play against other tough opposition. If we beat India today it does not mean we should take it for granted we can also beat New Zealand, Afghanistan for that we will have to continue the hard work."

Pakistan team's interim head coach, Saqlain Mushtaq also reminded the players that now rival teams will come stronger at Pakistan after the win over India.

"We must all do soul searching and think what we did right today to win the match in such a fashion and to also think and keep working on the weak areas where we still need to continue to do work to remove them. It is about honest self assessment," he said.

Saqlain also said that the players must not get carried away with the celebrations after the win over India as sport is cruel and every match is a new one.

Former Pakistan opener, Mohsin Khan said that winning the toss was vital for Pakistan and Babar took the right decision to chase down a total as dew was a factor and will remain one through the tournament.

Former Test pacer Aaqib Javed said that Shaheen Shah Afridi's burst of two wickets with the new ball and Hasan Ali's one scalp put India on the back foot and they never recovered after that.

"I liked the way the bowlers displayed so much discipline and game awareness today. Haris Rauf used the slower balls to great advantage," he said.

Aaqib, a member of the 1992 World Cup-winning squad, said that it was good to see the Pakistan players show self-belief.

"India is a top side and to beat them by 10-wickets is amazing. (I) Don't rule out a rematch with them perhaps in the final," he said.

Pakistan's former wicketkeeper-batsman and captain Rashid Latif lauded the thorough professional attitude of the players.

"Everything went according to plan today starting with the toss. I don't think any other team which loses its head coach and bowling coach just before a World Cup can perform like this.

"This can only be done by Pakistan which produces remarkable cricket when least expected," Latif said.

Former Test pacer Umar Gul said he has no doubt that India would make a strong comeback in their remaining matches.

"They are a very strong side and they will be smarting after this defeat. Expect them to come back strongly."

Agreed. Afg cannot be taken lightly, and I have a strong feeling they will win against NZ and all other teams. Afg v Ind, and Afg v Pak will be good match-ups.

On topic: Good to see Babar starting to change course personality-wise. There's no doubt he takes his own game very seriously, but he's slowly getting into a leadership mould which is only great for Pakistan cricket.

4 wins would be enough if we win against NZ.
