[VIDEO] Babar Azam's post Sri Lanka series comments - No mention of failure of our spinners?

Have a listen and tell me if there is any mention of the runs our bowlers gave away on the same pitch where Sri Lanka out-batted us

Pakistan will always produce spinners who have the potential to take 250+ Test wickets but those spinners will always be confused and want to make big money in franchise cricket instead.
 
I feel that either Babar is losing touch with reality or else he is being told to say these things.

Both options are bad!
 
What i dont expect is babar to throw his players under the bus

what i do expect is to hold his team to higher standards. Pakistan should be winning series like this and Aus at home comfortably

For him to say this was a good tour and not strive for better or higher is the puzzling thing. Pakistan couldve easily lost this series 2-0 It was only due to the gaulle track flattening out they could achieve a record breaking chase otherwise in most depts they were outplayed in the series

Babar to me doesnt seem to be tough enough to demand and want better

what can he say, he knows theres a lack of skill, no amount of coaching can teach a mid 30 year old how to bowl spin. its like alcoholics anonymous, the first step is admitting there is not spinners in pakistan, before u can work to rectify it.

Yes but to say we are doing well is an insult to our intelligence.

Its best not to speak about it then make a fool of himself.
 
Babar is another Joe Root as captain. Hoping he realizes his limitations and gives the job to someone who has more passion and capacity for the job.
 
I think captains shouldn't openly criticize own players in front of media. That can cause frictions and make things worse.

These issues need to be raised behind the scene (away from public).
 
I think Babar was expecting 2-0 loss. So 1-1 was much better and satisfying. Only fans are hoping for place in test championship final while neither Babar nor PCB are not even dream of top 4. They are happy to be around 6-8.
 
Real question is that how are you still expecting critical analysis from Babar? Isn't it common knowledge now that he isn't much of a thinker and has zero strategic/analytical thinking?

Just enjoy his batting and don't take what he says too seriously :)

"To be honest we should have done better on this tour"

"Whilst we had some soft dismissals, I feel that we need to work a little more on our spin attack" etc

As opposed to nothing was wrong then the question is why did you lose so badly in the final Test etc
 
Over the last decade or so, Pakistan team has been conditioned to be okay with mediocrity. This mindset of "being satisfied as long as you compete" was started by Misbah and has unfortunately continued...

The fact that he started the interview by saying it was quite a good tour tells you everything where we stand as a team and what standard we set.for ourselves. Misbah used to give statements like "we hope to give a tough time to the opposition" before every tour and unfortunately that mindset is still there.

Relax, Pakistan going 1-1 in Sri Lanka is not a bad result. Even Australia got beat here and I don't think a single player had even played in Sri Lankan Test conditions outside of Azhar/Fawad.

People need to be realistic about what this team is, which is a young middling team with room to grow but they're not top dogs like Australia/India etc.
 
I dont mind if Babar does not say anything as we all know the score - but when you speak, speak with some authority and keep it realistic as we arent idiots.

I think the team's expectation is low since Saqi is neither very active nor optimistic about team's performance. Since Saqi is local coach so media or former players are lenient with him, If it was foreign coach everyone will verbally abuse him.

Yeah, it’s not a bad result but it is also not “kaafi acha tour" by any stretch of imagination.

These guys are okay with mediocrity which, unfortunately, those following Pakistan since the the 90s aren't.

You do know that Pakistan has only ever produced one spinner that took 250+ test wickets, right?
 
Ramiz needs to come down hard on Babar ie I am giving you all this power and authority, give me results otherwise I am going to give the job to someone else with more competence for the job.
 
Sri Lanka's spinners averaged 25 or 26 in this series. Pakistan's spinners averaged 39.

They were comprehensively outbowled by Sri Lanka's spinners on spin-friendly tracks. There's no other way of looking at it.

You talking about the same Ramiz who thought we could beat Australia at home with our spin prowess? Please don't act like he has any idea what he is doing as Chairman.

Who else can you give it to? Rizwan, Shaheen? The rest aren't nailed on starters or are just getting a free ride in the side.
 
Speak the truth If he made statments like the below most fans would be happy that the captain is striving to make the team better

"The tour wasnt satisfactory The team shouldve done a lot better in all depts Players need to perform better as others are waiting for a chance We need to strive to win every match We will reassess our combinations as certain depts were lacking in this series"

We have settled for cliched statements and accepting mediocrity That is dissapointing

To be honest this is a worrying trend now.

Before the only public stuff that we would see from captains would be via open pressers were uncomfortable questions used to be asked.

Now we have these one-way motherhood type things which we are asked to take it or leave it!

Babar would have been quizzed about this tour in an open presser and he would have had to come up with credible answers.

Exactly. Joe Root's press conferences were painful. Completely devoid of reality and cliched statements. He didn't ruffle feathers, he let ECB rest key plays for key series and looked other way because he wanted to hold onto captaincy.

Agree 100%. On the other side it shows the mindset. The team and Captain are happy with average results. The standard not high. Its also logical. Just look at Yasir Shah, overweight and cant even control the scoring rate. Yet they pick him all the time.

Sad state when you have such folks leading the team.

Sri Lankan batsmen attacked our spinners with footwork and sweeps, slog sweeps. Our batsmen were far too timid in comparison

That's just not true. Babar was excellent against spin throughout the series. Abdullah Shafique looked great against spin in that first test run chase. Rizwan, despite giving away his wicket on numerous occasions through soft dismissals relentlessly attacked the spinners. Even Agha Salman attacked the spinners fairly well in that half century knock.

Fact is Sri Lanka's spinners were just better than Pakistan's. Even when Pakistan were attacking them they found a way to be disciplined and stay in the game. They rarely let the game get out of their hands. The runchase in the first test was simply an incredible batting performance that you're not going to see very often in this sport and on that pitch. By comparison Pakistan's spinners were not just tonked around but were rarely ever able to build pressure or control the game.

And the fact that Sri Lanka's batters attacked our spinners more is more a of a damning indictment of our spinners than our batters because ultimately these were spin-friendly wickets. If Sri Lanka's spinners could average under 30 in this series, why were our spinners touching 40?

If Babar is going to be critical, the one person he should be most critical of is Yasir Shah.

A beyond awful performance from someone who was regarded as one of the best spinners in the world not too long ago, in a series where Pakistan were heavily relying on him.

He had nothing resembling control and looked terrible even when he was picking up wickets.

You shouldn't expect to win a series in Sri Lanka with such a mediocre spin-bowling attack. I don't care how good your batting is. Nawaz was the only one who even looked credible in this series.

Babars captaincy is too blame as well. He happily leaked singles and rarely had men close to the bat ie bat pad positions, leg slip, slips. In comparison the Sri Lankan captain gave his bowlers attacking fields most of the time.

His latest after loss in Asia Cup final:

"Congratulations to Sri Lanka for playing outstanding cricket. We dominated them for the first eight overs, but the partnership that Rajapaska got was amazing," Babar pointed out.

"This was a true wicket and it is always nice playing in Dubai. We didn't bat according to our potential. We started well, but we gave away 15-20 extra runs and couldn't finish well," he further added on where the match got away."

"A lot of positives for us to take. In a final, the margin for mistakes is lesser. Our fielding wasn't up to the mark and the batting couldn't finish it off well. But Rizwan, Naseem and Nawaz were positives," the player said on the Pakistan's loss in the final.

"Ups and downs will be there, but it would be nicer if we made lesser mistakes," he concluded the post match presentation.
