Was that his observation? just when the batsman sat, stretched his hand, laying the bat on the crease, the fielder was all set to stop that one and took a brilliant one, whereas we missed around 3-4 dollies yesterday but thanks to westindies for there commendable under-performance.

Quite honestly, such movements of the fielders should be barred. SPD smith has taken some similar catches which basically were unfair as he would be standing in the slip region while a spinner was in operation. The batter abs had no clue about the change in the field prior to making the shot.

Only after the ball has made a contact with the bat, the fielder should be allowed to move only then.

I think fielder is allowed to move after the batsman commences playing a shot. That means even before contact between bat and ball is made.

In an era of batting friendly rules, this might be just about fair.

What has not changed is the fact that the batsman's inns will be done n dusted owing to a single mistake. For a bowler, it ll be a six/seven run penalty at max.

Any change in field where the batsman's shot is still not complete raises the stakes further against him.

forget about that prior movement, the effort to take the catch was amazing, stretched his hand wide and just managed it into his fingers

The batsman knows what he is in for when he starts playing that shot. By showing his intentions this early, he puts himself at risk of being deciphered by the fielders, much the same as a batsman picking up googly, reverse swing, slower ball from the bowler's hand.

Do you want to implement a rule that mandates closing the eyes of the batsman till the ball has left the bowler's hand? Players like Afridi were able to play the paddle sweep just before the ball left the bowler's hand, minimizing the predictability and the resultant reflex movements by the fielder.

Infact fielder is allowed to move once bowler bowled a ball, once release from hand

We are talking about a fielder's movement specifically and not a bowler. The fielders are not supposed to change position and shift from their original positions so as to create a significant change of field. The close in fielding positions are stacked up pretty close to each other and any decent movement results in change of the position. Smith's way of catching was abs howler.

The batsman and the bowler both actually can/do change their final execution upon their own discretion.

Purely brains and intellectual training which we miss in our training. Carefully watch the leg umpire say 'wow'

I thought fielders weren't allowed to change their field position till the time the bowler start's his run-up and the batsman hasn't played the ball.

Who were the culprits yesterday?

No.

Our best fielder is out of the team because of poor below average performances in last 18 months.

He can't change his position until the bowler bowls the delivery. Why should the fielders stay in the same spot when the batsman is changing his position and hitting the ball in a direction he normally couldn't?

Yeah but what Pakistani fielder's can do , other countries definitely cannot match !

In short no - we are just not a good fielding side.

Only YK, Malik or maybe Shehzad can do something like this but this catch involved a lot of luck. Seemed more of a reflex where the silly leg fielder anticipated the sweep shot and stuck his hand out at the right moment.
