Another great story to come out of the LQ PDP program. Apparently was a full time farmer in Faisalabad before LQ took him on board a year or so ago.

Looks like a cross between Junaid khan and Junaid Zia, trundling at 120k-ish? Wondering what impressed the Melbourne stars. Has he played any first class yet?

I dont see anything special in him. He looks on the chubby side and bowls 120kph. The stars might regret this.

I don’t think he’s ever played at the professional level.

Dilbar Hussain- Shocking Selection

A guy that has never played professional cricket. Only started playing club cricket last year has been selected in a big platform like the Big Bash. The youtube footage of him playing a random match shows him to be a 120kph bowler with nothing special about him.

Shocking selection imo.

Lahore Qalandars
Press Release
January 24th, 2020.

Lahore: Lahore Qalandars, the most favorite franchise of Pakistan Super League, is proud to announce that Dilber Hussain, a product of Qalandars' player development program, has been signed by Big Bash League team Melbourne Stars for remaining matches of the league this season.

Dilber has been picked as replacement of Hairs Rauf, another product of LQ's PDP, who made waves during his stint with the team before being called by Pakistan selectors to represent the national team against Bangladesh.

The management of Lahore Qalandars is excited and proud to see Dilber being signed by a BBL team.

"We are proud to see that people are now getting fruits of Player Development Program. The signing of Dilber Hussain proves that Lahore Qalandars is working on right direction for the development of players, this vindicates our mantra of the player development program," said Mr. Sameen Rana, the COO of Qalandars.

It is worth mentioning that Dilber was once working in agricultural land in his village near Faisalabad. He was picked by Qalandars' DCO Aaqib Javed in 2018 during the player development program.

He also toured Australia with Qalandars' development squad the same year and proved his worth.

"We always believed that there is no dearth of talent in Pakistan, the only thing missing was a proper platform, a proper pathway to transform them from raw talent to top-level performers. We provided that platform to our players and that platform has already produced Haris Rauf for you. Now Dilber Hussain is in line, and I can reveal that there are many more under the same process," said the CEO of Lahore Qalandars, Mr. Atif Rana.

Speaking about Dilber Hussain, Aaqib Javed revealed that he first spotted the fast bowler in Faisalabad and was "impressed at first sight".

"It was the first time Dilber played hard-ball cricket, the first time he was in a proper cricket stadium, and he displayed great passion for the game," he said.

He is also in Lahore Qalandars' squad for this year's edition of the Pakistan Super League.

We wish Dilber Hussain all the best for his stint with the Melbourne Stars. The management of Lahore Qalandars is confident that like Haris, Dilber with his skill will impress everyone in BBL.

Dilbar Hussain - Fast-bowler from Lahore

So picked as replacement for Haris Rauf, little known about him but some profile here:

"Little is known about Hussain, apart from the fact he's played alongside Rauf as a development player at the Lahore Qalanders in the Pakistan Super League. He was also in an extended Qalanders squad alongside Rauf and the likes of Shahid Afridi, Heat spinner Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Strikers opener Phil Salt and Scorchers quick Chris Jordan at the Abu Dhabi T10 League in November."

He is also in squad for LQ as a supplementary pick.

Lets see how he does.

Crazy, not a single professional game to his name. He had a session with Michael Beer before he was named in the squad, obviously must've liked what they saw.

Apparently has a good change of pace and is well-built like Rauf. Could be handy in death overs

1. Has good seam position and release which assists out swing.

2. Bowls deadly and accurate Yorkers.

3. Has excellent change of pace variation.

4. Is deceptive and quick from a short run up.

5. Bowls Fast-Medium. Can bowl few balls in excess of 138-139 kph.

Will perform in BBL & PSL if he can control his nerves since it’s a big stage for him.

Do you know his age and height?

Found this on Twitter.

Novak’s 6’2 ish? So he would be about 6-6’1.

if Novak is 6'2 the guy is abt 5'11 max ... novak isnt standing upright, the dude is and still novak is considerably taller

but height counts for nothing .... the guy looks like a tank .... will be interesting to see how he performs

Some background on Dilbar.

Good to see another Pak pacer getting an oppurtunity. Bit surprising that Melbourne Stars are so much into LQ products when LQ had a programme with Sydney Thunders to promote young players.

Stars must had seen something good in him, they are not stupid. Doesn't matter how good is he, but credit goes to Qalanders for giving him the opportunity.

Impressed looking at that youtube clip. The lad has swagger and looks like 140 ish but with a heavy ball

Amazing name. Reminds me of Sushmita sen and Sanjay Kapoor song in Malaysia

First over.

He is bowling at 141kph in his first over.It is not bad for someone who has played no professional cricket.Don't know how successful he will become but looks strong and could be a handy bowler.Pakistan has no shortage of 140+ bowlers. There is no system to develop them

With zero experience - you have to say it was a very good opening over. Showed no hesitation to try the bouncer or off cutter in the first over as well.

Only one over so far that Abdullah has kindly posted, but he's comfortably above 140 and has swing / variation.

But the pakpassion experts had already written him off as a trundler...

He tries way too much, which is forgivable given his nonexistent experience.

Second over.

Don’t think he’ll be playing again. :)

An absolute rubbish last over.

What on earth happened to Yasir Jan, where has he gone?

Hadn't heard of this guy Dilbar Hussain before.

Better bowlers have been destroyed by ABD, but Australia has a pretty ruthless cricket culture. Don't think he'll play again. Haris Rauf will likely be back in a few days anyway

Poor management from Melbourne Stars as well. Yes he was an overseas signing but I am not wrong he hasnt played a professional match at a level anywhere close to it and they bowled him opening over and combined two overs in power play and then bowled him 2 overs in the last 4. Its was too big an ask from any new player let alone someone who hasnt even played FC cricket.

I wouldn't be too hard on him, making his T20 debut against AB de Villiers and bowling last over. Isn't easy that's for sure.

I don't think he'll go for 55 runs if he plays the next game and only after 4-5 games we can see how good of a bowler he is.

Shinwari would've been better signing.

Third over.

I don't know why people are saying that its difficult bowling to ABD on debut when he conceded most runs from Test batsmen Labuschagne

Shinwari would've been better signing.

Definitely, Shinwari is an international bowler while Dilbar doesnt even have FC experience. Still I doubt mind trying him but Melbourne Stars mismanaged his move upto the next level.

James Pattinson also went for 52 runs against Perth so all is not lost. :srt

That being said, yes it was poor stuff from him despite being horribly managed by Maxwell and MLS who handled him like he is another Haris Rauf without realizing Rauf already had domestic and PSL experience.

Yup, and from the Qalandars as well, atleast rauf had psl experience, this is silly.

Many here had dismissed him as a 120 kph bowler, which turned out to be totally wrong.

He bowled at least 6-9 balls in excess of 138 kph with his Fastest ball being 141.8 kph.

It was his first professional Cricket match at a big stage like BBL but he failed to control his nerves hence couldn't execute his target line and length. Having said that, I am not going to write him off as yet. He can bounce back surely.

Dilbar's strength is quick skiddy bouncer and targeted Yorkers with his release assisting reverse swing. He bowled two quality Yorkers in 2nd over which tailed in quite abit despite ball being relatively new. He needed to bowl those Yorkers in last two overs too but couldn't execute with two world class batsman in front of him.

Dilbar can add 5 to 7 kph further to his face with increase in run up. In the long run he needs to do that to get more momentum and this would help him become a better bowler.

Way to go Dilbar, don't lose heart Laadi.

Nice comments on Dilbar Hussain by Hussey

https://www.cricket.com.au/news/mel...nepal-hilton-cartwright-injury-bbl/2020-01-26

"It's his (Hussain's) first time at the MCG in front of a decent crowd representing a new team, his English is not great, he's only arrived with the Stars in the last couple of days," said Hussey.

"Foreign conditions (but) I thought there was a lot to offer – 145kph away swingers, good slower ball, good fast bouncer … good control, good yorker. I think he's got a pretty good future in the game.

"I think he's going to ruffle a few feathers later on in the tournament."

Pretty decent talent , with proper training and coaching he can be a good prospect for T20 leagues or may be T20I as well.

Had this happend 3 years ago pople here would have gone crazy and very excited. Now we know we have bowlers like Naseem, Shaheen, Hasnain, Rauf etc so the interest is also sort of low.

I would wait for 3 more games before passing judgment. Some of the balls he bowled were very good.

I am a fan of fast bowlers who have a strong body language and can also bowl good cutters at decent speed.

Btw what Lahore Qalandars is doing is appreciable at all levels. But I'm hoping somehow somewhere we also find good batting talents.

Takes wicket of Sangakkara (25) - good bowling but then Sanga trying to force the pace also

Dont see the pace in him that Rauf has - its almost as if LQ want to him to succeed and show that Rauf wasnt a flash in the pan

I reckon that he can have a good career in Bollywood or Lollywood as a baddie but he is not International material at all as a pacer.

Dilbar Hussain - Performance Watch in the Pakistan Super League

Was he selected in the emerging category?

As that is what he's playing as now.

Anyways, how is he at 27 years of age emerging?

27 is his Cricinfo age. He is at least 30.

Rauf was allowed when he was 24-25. Something to do with them not playing any domestic match when picked by LQ.
