England captain Ben Stokes was involved in a heated exchange with the on-field umpire during Day 3 of the second Test on Friday, following a controversial DRS incident involving Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal.

The drama unfolded in the eighth over of India’s second innings when Jaiswal was struck on the pads by a delivery from Josh Tongue. England immediately appealed, and umpire Sharfuddoula raised his finger. After a brief discussion with his batting partner, Jaiswal opted for a review.

However, Stokes was visibly frustrated, arguing that Jaiswal had exceeded the 15-second time limit allowed to request a DRS. Despite his protest, the umpire allowed the review to proceed. Replays confirmed that the ball was indeed hitting the stumps—meaning Jaiswal should have been out.

Adding to the controversy, further footage appeared to support Stokes’ claim, showing that the Indian batter initiated the review after the timer had expired. The incident didn’t sit well with the Edgbaston crowd either, as loud boos echoed around the ground in response to the umpire’s decision.

BCCI and Indian players cant influence everything with their net worth. Stokes was right on this occasion.

Stokes was right. The DRS time duration is 15 seconds. The timer starts from 15. 15 to 1 is 15 seconds. The 0 means times up. That's why it is also in red color.

Umpire needs to be more vigilant in these matters.

Agree.

Umpire messed it up.

umpire should have consulted the third umpire to verify whether Stokes' claim was correct or not as he couldn't accurately judge the timing of the review in real-time on the field.

100% mistake by the umpire.

Probably was too focused on Jaiswal and didn't look at the timer.

Surprised BCCi never fiddled with ultra edge whilst they were arguing

Can't blame Stokes here. The timer is there for a reason.

If Jaiswal needs tips for how to review quickly we can send him the expert :ssa

Recently in BGT, one of the Aussie batter took the review after the clock reached 0. The commentators were surprised the umpire allowed it but no one on the field raised any issues. It is just Stokes crying because they are way behind. As a batter you discuss with the non-striker and ask for review. You are not looking at the clock. The umpires need to make the call if it needs to be allowed or not. Let's see if Stokes is reprimanded like Pant was for arguing with the umpire. Stop bringing India/BCCI into everything, this has happened a lot in the past but just because Stokes made a huge deal this is being talked about. Mostly teams don't care if it is 1 or 2 seconds over the 15.

LOL... Time was already over... There is no doubt here. Stokes is not a crybaby this time but some guys are from the opposite side by defending the umpire's decision...because it was a wrong call.

Most of the indian fans don't defend that decison because it cost us a review. Lol It was Plumb. Btw umpire is from Bangladesh so this is understandable as they are only produce garbage- batsman , bowlers, umpire everything.

:kp

Ideally in such a situation they should have allowed Stokes to review the review made by Yashasvi Jaiswal.

We can call it a review within a review

What has the Indian team got to do with the umpire's decision here? Did they try to intimidate the umpire? :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

Stokes is right
Poor decision by ump

But India lost a review lol so if anything stokes should be happy

Having said that, stokes shouldn’t have barged right up to the umpire aggressively. That doesn’t look good.

Guess if an Asian player did it he would be fined. Stokes may get away with this act of belligerence somehow.

Only if you allow him to be one.

Am sure Indians will give it back to him at some point.
Without Kohli, this indian team is not aggressive at all. Only siraj Miyan can give it back . :kp
