I'd rather lose respectfully then resort to cheap tactics like mankad.

This is World Cup! She should've gone for it.

This would've been fine in a meaningless bilateral game but not in a WC game.

Poor strategy.

Right decision from here A win isnt a win if you have to resort to underhand tactics like mankading

Rather lose righteously than win deceitfully

Now watch our parosis defend this to the teeth.

Twitter thread will be overrun with parosis defending how it's ok under the rules.

Yes, I've said in the past that as long as it's legal, it's okay. But, I totally respect the bowler here for respecting the spirit of the game.

Hats off.

Like Walsh in WC’87, she did the right thing.

That thread is overrun by our parosis (neighbors = Indians), defending how it's legal and she should have done it.

*sigh... if mankading is soo looked down upon and against the spirit of the game, is it such a mission to make it illegal? Also speaking of spirit of the game, a bowler shouldn’t mankad but a non-striker can get a head start for a potential run before the bowler completes his/her delivery?

Wouldn't have made any difference to the result though, except perhaps the additional pressure.

Even if she had mankaded, the new batswomen would have come to the non striker end. The match was finished by the in strike batswomen who hit a six off the next ball

Should've done it. In the end it wouldn't have made a difference anyways as the next ball was hit for four to win the game.

Every credit to the bowler here, but it is not the same with Walsh. In that game against Pakistan, WI was defending 2 of last ball with last pair in wicket - had WIN won that game, they would have made the SF (they finished with 3 wins out of 6, PAK 5 and ENG 4, with WIN higher RR than ENG). Walsh decided not to run Salim Jafar out.

This game, SAF needed 3 runs of 4 balls with 6 wickets at hand. And, this is just a group game - 1st one, England will still make the next the round.

I don’t think, that run-out (had the bowler gone for it), could have changed the outcome of the game.

And she would've felt guilty and terrible af after the match had she done it.

Look, Aus, Eng and Pak players consider it a really bad and unsportsmanlike act, to get someone out like this.

Only some parosis cherish it because Mankad invented it and Ashwin promotes it.

Legal, yes, can be done, but the purists will boo you and they won't be wrong. Mankad fans aren't legally wrong either.

They needed 7 runs in 4 balls and not 3 off 4. Anyways English people are too classy to pull off a cheap tactic like this.

She probably wasn't even thinking about the wicket opportunity. i remember once the english lady had the chance to run someone out but instead threw the ball to the other end even though the opposition batsmen wasn't even in the frame and she was standing over the stumps. Without sounding sexist, the women are just not as savvy.

Still it would have been 7 of 4, with 5 wickets at hand and the batswoman hitting the six on strike. Mankad doesn’t cost ball, neither the batsman on strike changes - absolutely no comparison with what Walsh did there.

But yes, English cricketers are better mannered in such regards.

Don't think it would have been that big a deal had she ran her out. Afterall we talking about fairness, it's not fair that runner is half way down the wicket before the ball is bowled. Bowlers are not parents and batsmen are not 3 year old kids that only one party has to show respect.

If the batsman is trying to take advantage of the rules the bowler should do the same, in my opinion

They should change the laws for mankad. There must be warning given from the bowler to the umpire and the batting team so that the batsman are aware that it would happen if they try it again.
It should not necessary be made by the bowler ,captain can convey the message on behalf of the team at any time in the inning.
