[VIDEO] Eoin Morgan's reply to journalist - Did he have to be so rude?

most of the times the south asian journalists ask such dumb questions. I like how morgan treats them.

This isnt the first time he did it

THing is, its not about english, its about asking sensible question. Often i have seen journalist throw questions just to get praise for there own teams.

From those saying that Morgan is just a straight talker, I want to know how you'd get an idea about a captain's assessment of the other team if everyone starts saying "it's not my job to assess them"?

This was a dumb response by a typically smug English player.

Sometimes I wonder if there this arrogant without achieving anything in the sport, what would they be like if they ever win a thing or two?

While the question was not phrased grammatically perfectly, there's no way in the world Morgan didn't understand what the journalist meant. It's a straightforward question, you tool!

What was your plan against the BD spinners? What's so hard to understand?

He's just being an idiot who thinks too highly of himself.

In a press conference you are obliged to answer questions. Asking about the opposition strengths or weaknesses is nothing unusual . He could of easily answered it by focusing on his teams batting. It’s nonsense to suggest he is not obligated to discuss the opposition,

Yes, it is not unusual, but there is no obligation for the captain to provide general assessments on bowling or batting of opposition. Also, Bangladesh bowled awfully he could have said they are awful and none of you would have liked it.

I stand by my words I don't see anything wrong in what he said reporters need to stop fishing for compliments after crap performances by their teams.

Journalist asked a stupid question to stir something up and write a juicy story (Brandon mcclum personal prediction made headlines lol), in return got a straight answer. *** for tat. Nothing wrong with what he said.

Fair enough bro. Perhaps Morgan thought it was a disrespectful question in regards to Bangladesh but a captain needs to be diplomatic. Im used to watching strange questions in football press confrences but the players and managers respond without losing their rag.

really? asking the winning captain what their plans were against the opposition bowlers? what was their plan, how do you assess you played, how do you assess opposition bowling performance, how do you plan to combat similar threat in future, are all very common questions in press conferences.. All he had to say was we did well against BD spinners and hope to continue the same form against other teams. if he is taking the position that it is not his job to assess or comment on opposition team then it is fine. He needs to stick to that in future and not comment on opposition teams and let the journalists know that he will entertain only English team related questions.. no big deal. He came across very rude and he is not doing any favors to journalists. Post press conference is part of team's responsibility

here is the transcript

Journo - Captain how do you assess BD bowling today? Didn't look like they made any kind of threat to your team? or what was your plan against bd spinners?
Morgan - To score runs of them and not lose any wickets? I don't understand the question. Our plans against the BD bowlers?
Journo - how do you assess BD bowling?
Morgan - I don't, its't not my job

seriously where are you seeing anything stupid by the Journalist? that is a straightforward question. in fact journalist says that BD bowlers didn't pose any threat to Englishmen. Morgan went all defensive. may be he was irritated with earlier exchange. But he is a paid professional and a public figure.. poor conduct. If Kohli , Sarfaraz or God forbid Mortaza had responded like everyone will be putting them down

Seems a bit agitated does Morgs.

Maybe the pressure is getting to him?

Hes tryna be like Belichik.. but it doesnt suit him when most other cricketers are gentlemen

Firstly he isn’t English and secondly the English aren’t arrogant or smug, they are in the main self-deprecating. You simply can’t be arrogant or smug here, you will be mercilessly ridiculed and cut down to size. Perhaps you are mistaking the usual English reserve for arrogance.

I think he meant it’s a commentator’s or journalist’s job to “assess” Bangladeshi players, while it’s his to score runs and beat them.

I would do away with post-match captain interviews altogether. People either get upset, or more likely bored by talk of taking positives.

Morgan gave the perfect answer. Didn't you see what happened to mcclum recently over a silly little prediction? Imagine he opened his mouth and actually stated their bowling sucked, the social media BD fans would have put a foot up Morgan's rear end. Either way, it's not his job to assess, he isn't wrong about that.

Could have worded his answers a bit better I feel, but can understand his sentiments.

Haha.

He loses the plot in actual matches too, just like he does in pressers. :srini

Looks like a man feeling the heat.

Just like he was in Cardiff in 2017 after the defeat to Pakistan.

its safe to be philosophical than curt now, can see in his face he's letting the emotion get better of him

Not suprised to see you siding with the journalist, as you'd probably ask a similar question but stoop even lower with an even worse one, along the lines of "how you do you rate Misbah?" :))

Or like "any comments on the explosiveness potential of Umar Akmal" :najam :))

It is ok to get annoyed. He already replied no. There was no need to ask why.
Nobody would like- at least I won't- if someone just can't let go.

Showed the back of his shirt to the press box

I remember that Nasser Hussein was a mediocre ODI player and critics were questioning for his position in the team let alone be the captain of 'Old England.' After scoring his hundred he ran around like Tahir pointing at his Number, Mohammed Kaif chased down the total. Only hundred that too at a losing cause :yk

I can’t remember the context of it
I just remember him doing it
Morgan doesn’t seem to have the same kind of pressure , very unfallible and popular

Tough day in the office for Morgan.

England will not beat all of their last three opponents for sure. Surely India would prefer England to not reach the Semis! New Zealand also.

England are so used to 400 plus pitches, they have forgotten how to bat on sporting wickets with swing, seam, spin, slow pace. Their limitations are getting exposed now.

The pressure is getting to the poor guy. You can see he's utterly bemused at what's happening.

Nothing wrong in it. Kp is just a bitter & now trying too hard to prove his point right.

Have never rated Morgan, like ABD the master of soft runs

Looks like a shorter version of Stuart Broad in those clips, Morgan definitely was wary, perhaps not scared of Starc yesterday and that almost certainly affected the way he batted.

The manner of yesterday’s loss was bad enough - but their reaction to it has been even worse. They don’t seem to appreciate the pressure that they will be under out on the pitch, and they seem quite overconfident in their own abilities to comfortably turn this situation around.

If anything yesterday was a humbling experience, against a team who England should have been hotly competitive against for 100 overs but lost the game within 25.

Losing is part of the game. This could have been turned into a wake-up moment that inspired the players to victory over India and New Zealand, but given the arrogant shrug-off we’ve seen since last night, I can’t see that happening now.

England will crash out. No World Cup, likely no semi final either.
