[VIDEO] Fatalities in Lahore as Police reportedly open fire on TLP protesters

Lovers of Prophet (PBUH)? All this rhetoric of being as Ashiq-e-Rasool is invalid when these same people are involved, knee-deep, in all kinds of dishonesty such as hoarding sugar, adulterating milk, manufacturing fake medicines, obtaining fake licenses, forcibly occupying lands, stealing power and water, lying, selling dead meat to customers, and ripping others off in every way possible. Heck, milk in this country is manufactured by using detergent and urea!

As our Prophet Mohammad PBUH said, ' The best amongst you is the one who does not harm others with his hands or words.' How come the most dishonest nation among the Muslim world claims to be the most pious and the champion of Islam? Because empty kettle makes a lot of noise and our people think that they can whitewash all their sins by chanting,' Labbaik Labbaik'.

A true lover of the prophet is somebody who lives his life according to the traditions of the Prophet Mohammad (PBUH).

There are 50 countries with Muslim majority in the world , only in Pakistan these so called "Ashiq-e-Rasool" protesting against France by destroying property and causing death to people including policemen .

Khadim Rizvi, who accuses others of blasphemy, himself committed blasphemy by saying that Azan coming out of a Wahabi mosque should not be respected. A big hypocrite!

There is a Hadith that says there would come a time when clerics would be the worst creatures under the sky. I see this happening right now.

Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid announced on Monday that after a successful round of negotiation with Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP), the proscribed outfit had released 11 policemen taken hostage from Lahore a day earlier.

“First round of negotiations have been successful which have led to TLP releasing the policemen it had held hostage. The second round of negotiations will begin after sehri,” the federal minister said in an early morning video message.

A deputy superintendent of police along with 10 other policemen was apparently taken hostage and tortured by workers of TLP in Lahore on Sunday.

According to the Punjab Police, the incident happened after workers belonging to the TLP attacked the Nawankot police station early in the morning.

Rashid further said that the negotiations were successfully carried out by the Punjab government and expressed hope that matters would be resolved in the second round of talks.

TLP ban

The government on Thursday, April 15, decided to approach the apex court seeking the dissolution of the Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) after the federal cabinet outlawed the group under the country’s anti-terrorism law.

The cabinet’s approval of a summary to ban the TLP came in the wake of thousands of its activists and supporters staging violent protests for three straight days across the country over the arrest of their leader.

Armed with sticks, canes and in some instances guns, they went on a rampage, causing loss of life and damaging properties worth millions of rupees.

After imposing the ban, the government also decided to circulate another summary among members of the federal cabinet for the dissolution of TLP on April 16, saying the matter would then be taken to the Supreme Court.

“We tried our best to solve the issues [with TLP] through negotiations but they had extremely dangerous intentions and weren’t agreeing to go back on their agenda for April 20 [march],” Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid, accompanied by Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony Minister Noorul Haq Qadri, explained at a news conference in the federal capital.

“Accepting demands like expelling ambassadors could lead to an extremely difficult situation for the country,” he added, referring to the TLP seeking the expulsion of the French envoy over blasphemous caricatures.

Rashid said all ministers had signed the summary seeking their approval for declaring the TLP a proscribed organisation.

The same people are fighting for farmer rights in India in some obscure proxy war against India/BJP yet are the same ones denying their own civilians the right to protest . Do I agree with TLP?, They sound like lunatics to me given their beliefs but peaceful resolution and all that.

KARACHI/ ISLAMABAD: A nationwide shutter-down strike has been called for today by the leaders of various religio-political outfits after violence and protests in Lahore led to clashes between police and supporters of a banned religiopolitical party.

The recently removed Ruet-e-Hilal Committee chairperson Mufti Muneeb-ur-Rehman had made the announcement for a strike in a press conference in Karachi along with other religious leaders late on Sunday.

The Opposition stalwart, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazl chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman, too, condemned the Lahore violence in a media talk in Islamabad and expressed support for Mufti Muneeb for his strike call.

Cleric Mufti Taqi Usmani, meanwhile, condemned the way the government handled the protesters in Lahore, saying the attacks on the police by "certain" people were certainly wrong, but that the government should act wisely.

Sunday's attack on a Lahore police station
On Sunday, the police and Rangers conducted an operation to disperse the protesters of the banned religiopolitical party from Yateem Khana Chowk in Lahore.

During the operation, all roads leading to the roundabout were closed, while there were reports of protracted clashes between law enforcers and protesters.

There were also reports of multiple casualties during the clashes.

In an apparent reference to TLP protesters, Punjab CM's aide Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan had said that "miscreants" armed with petrol bombs attacked the Nawankot police station, taking 12 policemen hostage and leaving six injured.

Sharing a statement by the Lahore police, she had said that owing to the attack, in which the attackers used petrol bombs and bottles of acid, Rangers and police personnel were trapped inside the police station.

The miscreants held the deputy superintendent of police hostage at gunpoint, along with 11 other policemen, and drove them to their markaz (comprising a mosque and madrassah) nearby.

Aside from attacking the police station and kidnapping officials, the miscreants also stole an oil tanker carrying 50,000 litres of petrol, she had said.

According to the police statement, the police pushed back the miscreants and took back possession of the police station.

"Police did not plan or conduct any operation against the mosque or madrassah. The action, if any, was in self-defence and to protect public property," read the statement.

Awan, confirming the same, said that any action taken was in self-defence and to rescue the police officers taken hostage.

Interior Minister Sheikh Rasheed, in the early hours of Monday, announced that 11 policemen who had been taken hostage in Lahore by the proscribed TLP have been released after negotiations carried out by the Punjab government.

In a video statement, the interior minister said the “first round of talks” concluded in a "successful manner" after which the policemen were released and the protesters had gone dispersed and returned inside the Masjid Rehmatulil Alameen, the headquarters of the TLP.

He added that the police had also been withdrawn from their positions to a more defensive posture.

Markets to remain closed following Mufti Muneeb’s strike call

CNG and petrol pumps will also remain closed

Traders across the country have decided to keep markets shut after the former chairman of the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, Mufti Muneebur Rehman, late on Sunday called for a nationwide strike after police action in Lahore against workers of the now proscribed Tehreek-e-Labbail Pakistan.

He also asked political parties to support his call.

JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman and JI Chief Sirajul Haq later backed the call and asked their supporters to conduct a peaceful protest.

Supporting the call for a shutter down strike, All Pakistan Anjuman-e-Tajiran demanded that the government immediately remove Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar and Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid. They also asked the government to ask the French envoy to leave the country.

Addressing a press conference, Mufti Muneeb asked the government to lift the ban on TLP and release all its workers. “There will deadlock in talks if the government does not agree to these terms,” he said.

He further asked the government to soften their stance in order to reach a solution. CNG and petrol pumps are also to remain closed.

Lahore incident

Workers of outlawed TLP on Sunday stormed a police station near the party’s headquarters in Lahore and abducted half a dozen policemen including a deputy superintendent of police (DSP).

“Today in the early morning, miscreants attacked Nawankot Police Station where Rangers and police officers were trapped inside the police station and [the] DSP Nawankot [Mohammad Umer Farooq was] kidnapped and taken [to] the [TLP] markaz," said a brief statement issued by the provincial police.

The police later launched an operation at the TLP headquarters to rescue the abducted officials.

According to the TLP, a heavy contingent of police assisted by the Pakistan Rangers “attacked” their markaz and its adjacent mosque and used heavy tear-gas shelling, while baton-charging their activists.

The TLP also accused the police of resorting to live firing and use of chemical infected water to disperse the activists.

The police, however, faced stiff resistance from party workers who managed to repel the law enforcers while injuring at least 20 of them.

He didn’t clarify that comment but every wise one knows what he means by it.

Wahabi regime has done more harm to muslims and muslim leadership than any other in our history. You all guys must know better and the root causes of all the mischief.

Remember even at times of prophet, at a time of a certain war the hypocrites started building a mosque, now they were named and shamed (though building a mosque is a good deed)

So an Azan which is done by those who side by oppressors in Rizvis eye didnt hold much value.

However I disagree with his comment. And pray Allah forgives him.

Ab ye bhi jhoot hai? They didn’t really have those cops as hostages? Or were they holding them hostage “peacefully”.

The disinformation campaign by TLP to garner support is very very organized and malicious and it’s quite clear they are being backed by non state actors. They are funded and supported by people who want chaos in Pakistan. This has nothing to do with namoos Risalat. Khadim was a traitor sellout and so is his son and all these mullas are bikao ghadar anti Pakistan people.

and you have quantitative data to back this assertion or as usual are you just talking from the proverbials?

With regards to the TLP, they will now be dealt with by hook or by crook. A decision has been made to deal with them and it has not been made lightly.

Lal masjid could’ve been handled better but you can compare Guns and suicide craze of Lal masjid With sticks For defence and road blockage protests

Mark my words, ambassador will be ousted and TLP will be cleared of all wrongdoing allegations.

how naïve are you?

France has a whole mission that exists in Pakistan, they won't be selling the building and moving out.

The ambassador that exists currently, is a seasoned diplomat who has served mostly in muslim countries.

He won't be ousted, the govt will inform the Jahil TLP supporters and their sympathizers that give them time till summer.

Every Ambassador or diplomat is posted for a period of time between 3-5 years. The french ambsaddor's tenure will end in July. But than he will be leaving.

Only thing that will happen is France might delay sending a new ambassador, while the mission staff in Islamabad will keep on existing. They might make one of the senior staff member in charge probably.

Imran Khan’s Speech to the Nation

‘The government will not send back French ambassador.’

‘Both the government and TLP have same aims.’

Prime Minister Imran Khan has revealed that “external forces” tried to exploit violent Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) protests by spreading fake news on social media platforms.

“We have reviewed 400,000 tweets, 70% of which came from fake accounts,” he said while addressing the nation on Monday.

The premier added that 380 Indian contacts were also detected in several WhatsApp groups spreading fake news regarding the law and order in the country.

"Don't play into the hands of our enemies," he said while conveying message to the recently banned outfit.

PM Imran said due to the violent protests across the country at least four policemen were martyred and over 800 personnel of law enforcement agencies sustained injuries.

He said owing to road blockade by the protesters citizens across the country faced immense difficulties and deaths were also reported in hospitals due to the disruption in oxygen supply to the hospitals amid the novel coronavirus pandemic

While lashing out at opposition parties, he said that JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman also supported the deadly protest in a bid to destabilise the PTI government.

The prime minister also said severing ties with France will damage Pakistan’s relations with European Union (EU) which will also damage the country’s economy and export.

“After much difficulties, the country's economy is reviving, the rupee is stabilising, inflation in coming down, if we sever ties with France it will mean that our ties with the EU will be severed and doing so will hurt Pakistan's textile industry as most of our textile products exported to European countries,” he added.

Moreover, traders across the country have decided to keep markets shut after Mufti Muneebur Rehman, the former chairman of Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, late Sunday called for a nationwide strike after police action in Lahore against TLP workers.

He also asked political parties to support his call.

JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman and JI Chief Sirajul Haq later backed the call and asked their supporters to conduct a peaceful protest.

https://www.dawn.com/news/1619143/sheikh-rashid-noorul-haq-qadri-to-meet-tlp-workers-tonight-for-third-round-of-talks

Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid and Religious Affairs Minister Pir Noorul Haq Qadri will meet workers of the recently proscribed Tehreek-e-Labaik Pakistan (TLP) at 10pm tonight for the third round of talks, Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry said on Monday.

The first round of talks between the Punjab government and workers of the banned party took place yesterday after day-long clashes between TLP workers and law enforcers. The second round concluded earlier today, Chaudhry said in a tweet.

Punjab Governor Chaudhry Sarwar and provincial Law Minister Raja Basharat represented the government in the second round, according to Chaudhry.

The TLP has put forth four demands: the expulsion of the French ambassador over President Emmanuel Macron's explicit backing of blasphemous cartoons, the release of party chief Saad Rizvi, the removal of the ban on the party and the release of activists arrested as well as the FIRs against them to be revoked.

On Sunday, Punjab police said the violence occurred after "miscreants" — an apparent reference to TLP workers — attacked a police station and abducted the DSP, adding that it acted only in "self-defence".

"Today in the early morning, miscreants attacked Nawankot Police Station where Rangers and Police officers were trapped inside the police station and DSP Nawankot kidnapped and taken to the markaz," the police said in a statement, referring to the TLP headquarters.

Meanwhile, police registered a first information report (FIR) against 23 TLP workers for "kidnapping the DSP, causing damage to government property, spreading fear and terror in the area through firing, and throwing petrol bombs and acid-filled bottles inside the police station".

In the FIR, the complainant Mohammad Waqas said that he was present inside the Nawankot police station when workers of the banned TLP gathered outside in a large number and started chanting slogans.

"They set the gate on fire and pushed it so it fell inwards. They started pelting stones inside the premises of the station and throwing petrol bombs and acid-filled bottles. Around 250-300 workers armed with weapons and sticks entered the station and started damaging the motorcycles parked inside. They also vandalised the offices of the DSP and SHO."

The FIR said that when the DSP tried to talk to the workers, they tortured him instead of listening to him. They took the DSP and other employees hostage and moved them amid intense firing and the presence of 2,500-3,000 TLP workers, it added.

The FIR was registered under the Anti-Terrorism Act as well as Sections 365 (kidnapping or abducting with intent secretly and wrongfully to confine a person), 324 (attempt to murder), 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), 452 (trespassing after preparation for hurt, assault or wrongful restraint), 427 (mischief causing damage), 186 (obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions), 147 (rioting), 148 (rioting, armed with deadly weapon), 149 (every member of unlawful assembly guilty of offence committed in prosecution of common object), 436 (mischief by fire or explosive substance with intent to destroy), 290 (public nuisance), 291 (continuance of nuisance after injunction to discontinue), 379 (theft) and 109 (punishment of abetment if the Act abetted committed In consequence and where no express provision is made for its punishment) of the Pakistan Penal Code.

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government also issued a notification to "freeze the movable/immovable assets" of the TLP and individuals associated with the organisation. As a result, TLP offices in Peshawar and Charsadda, and a madrassah associated with the party were sealed, according to officials.

The action comes days after the government banned TLP under Section 11B(1) of the Anti-Terrorism Act, 1997.

On Monday, rallies from different areas of Rawalpindi converged outside the public secretariat of the interior minister's party, known as Lal Haveli, to protest and chant slogans against him.

The protesters also burned posters of Rashid's nephew, MNA Sheikh Rashid Shafeeq.

Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) SP Tariq Mehmood reached the area along with a contingent of police and tried to negotiate with the protesters to disperse.

Meanwhile, businesses in several cities, including Karachi, Lahore, Peshawar and Quetta remained closed after Mufti Muneebur Rehman, former chairman of the Ruet-i-Hilal Committee, late Sunday announced a nationwide strike against the government's handling of the situation in Lahore.

In Lahore, the Gulberg Main Market, Origa Centre, Anarkali Bazaar, Urdu Bazaar, Lohari Gate Market as well as furniture and jewellery shops remained closed. The Tajir Ittehad and the Anjuman-e-Tajran groups had called for the strike.

The Anjuman-e-Tajran Rawalpindi also announced a strike in support of the ulema as a result of which Raja Bazaar, Liaquat Market and other business centres remained shut.

In Peshawar, traders at the historical Qissa Khwani Bazaar kept their shops closed while people also protested in front of the Khan Rizq police station, demanding the removal of the interior minister.

Traders Union of Balochistan also supported Mufti Muneebur Rehman's strike as business centres in the city remained partially closed.

A peaceful but partial strike was observed in Karachi as well. All major businesses and commercial centres remained closed while traffic was also less than normal, according to officials, traders and witnesses.

"No traditional way was adopted to force the trade and shopping centres to close instead, the shopkeepers themselves closed their business as they have 'emotional attachment' with the issue," head of All Karachi Tajir Ittehad Atiq Mir told Dawn.

He said all major markets in Saddar, Old City areas like Jodia Bazaar, Tariq Road, Bahadurabad, Clifton, Zamzama etc remained closed.

Except the difference is they were already planning to **** down the country. They were already on that path. So what options does the government have? Should the government simply surrender to their whims and fancies?

Either they are too stupid to believe they are helping our enemies and hurting our own people and country or they are sellouts and in on it with India. You simply cannot justify their actions by saying “well they are a vast majority and that’s what they want to do” because a criminal action does not become a legal action based on the number of people involved in it.

So that makes you happy? "Your country" does that mean you are an outsider?

Who gets the benefits of the country getting shut? Does that make any impact on France ? Why would France care if some Pakistani kill their policemen or injure them or block roads or shut their markets or vandalise their buildings?

One thing I have experienced in my life is that no amount of education can make a stupid person an intelligent one. There is no cure for stupidity.

The initial promise of PM Imran Khan to send back Frenchie Ambassdor by April 12 was a mistake. Now he cannot backtrack without angering the believers.

There was no such agreement. I guess this is another Indian bakht trying to destabilise Pakistan.

Imran and TLP agreed before that Pakistan will send back French ambassador back in November. TLP set a deadline of April 20. Not April 12 as I mentioned. My mistake.

Knowing how much Muslims get sensitive about Prophet PBUH, Imran was stupid to agree with TLP about kicking out French Ambassador.

I am far from being a Bhakt.

Knowing how much Muslims get sensitive about Prophet PBUH, Imran was stupid to agree with TLP about kicking out French Ambassador.

I am far from being a Bhakt.

From what I understood, the govt decided this would be discussed by them in senate or whichever house.
Whether such a discussion took place or not, is not clear to me. But there was no agreement to send the ambassador back.

But its ridiculous anyway. Politicians all around the world make tall promises to get elected all the time and then they never do that stuff. Does that mean the whole country starts rioting?

There are 50 majority Muslims countries in the world. Have they all done the same thing? Are there people out there on the streets making such ridiculous demands?

The reason is clear whether some people here like to accept it or not. All the data and patterns over the social media are indicating this was an organized effort by our neighbors to malign Pakistan at the international stage. They have funded TTP in the past and in this instance, I wouldnt be susprised that TLP is also acting as an Indian proxy. They could be an unwilling participant in their plans due to their utter jahalat.

I think the realization should hit Pakistanis everywhere now that our nation is mostly held hostage at the social/political/religious stages by these utterly immature and extremist religious political elements who use religion to interfere in governance. I do not think anybody in the country would utter a syllable over some of the stuff they turn into major catastrophic issues. Most people just want to live their lives in peace and order. Nobody likes chaos and disorder unless its benefits them.

The madrassa culture is producing such people by the thousands in Pakistan and this culture and trend has to stop. Combine this with the overall lack of formal education and economic/social problems and we have a perfect cocktail of problems which doesnt exist in any other muslim country except maybe Afghanistan.

What other way is there avaialble?

Look, TLP has one effective way which is to take cities hostage. Govt cant allow this everytime. Yes our govt has messed up by negotiating peace with these people, and yes our govt has failed with reforming the police.

But right now we need a contingency plan. The protestors were asking to to continue their protest but in a specific area where the general population isn't bothered. They dint listen.

Govt cant negotiate with these people. Govt did a good job by declaring them as terrorist, as they have a habit of taking cities as hostage.

Thre is no otehr way to control them for now. Just on friday Internet was shut down for 3 hours, as on friday sermons are given by TLP people to get more public involved in their protest.

The world has a huge population. You will find supporters of islam and you will find critics of it. Its not only about Islam, but every single thing or every human being that exists will have fans and will have critics. You can't do a protest each and every time if someone you admire gets crtisized or made fun of by some particular people.

Arrest the leaders and put them in jail for incitement. The people who have attacked police should also be arrested.

Peaceful protesting is a fundamental human right. Thing is why are other Muslim countries not going berserk over this French blasphemy?. Surely this Rizvi realises the enemies of Pak will take full advantage of our internal situation. Expelling the French ambassador will not resolve the situation at all. Within a few weeks they will again upset Pakistanis by doing something blasphemous again. Burning your own country in anger is never a solution.

Alhamdulillah agreement made

Gov abiding by original agreement plus reinstating TLP as it was a week ago.

Releasing all protestors too including leader.

And they’ve wilted again. It pains me to see this country in the hands of these violent terrorists, sadly we don’t have any leader strong enough to put an end to this madness.

Every time we give in, it sets a dangerous precedent. What’s the next protest going to be about? Hopefully the parliament makes the same decision.

I am pretty sure the parliament will reject the resolution. What next then?

What happens if god forbids some other country disrespects Prophet Mohammad PBUH next month or in the future?

This country is irrecoverable. You cannot do much when only 58% of your country is literate and the majority of the people hold extreme and narrow-minded views.

Arrest the leaders and put them in jail for incitement. The people who have attacked police should also be arrested.

leader was already arrested.

Oh and teh people who killed the police officer, Imran Khan took a u-turn and will withdraw FIR

This is the same PM who cries about model town. This PM is an insult to the nation.

The NA offered condolences prayer for killed TLP miscreants but not for our police officers. Shameful!

What a joke of a government. Government held hostage by its own citizens. Really deteriorates already depleted Pakistan's global image.

Who cares? :facepalm

Our whole existence as a country is to appease outside world?
Last time I checked it was a diverse democracy where compromises have to be reached here and there

So please lectures about image building and PR are a little tone-deaf

If I was a leader of Pakistan last thing I would care about is what my domestic policies are and how they would look

My job is to do what's best for Pakistan (and one can disagree or agree with the compromise that's not the issue) and not care about it's "perception" to the outside world since my job is dictated by the people of Pakistan

And if compromise was the right decision I'll do it, if it was not I won't

But judging my decision through global image is stupid to say the least

This guy took anotehr u-turn and made TLP more power by bowing down to them ocne again.

Good PPP will boycot this stupid NA session

Fed up with this stupid govt.
Where are the PTI posters who used to crisized other party supports for not supporting them.

Now shame on you for voting for a guy that negotiates with terrorsit groups and bows down to their pressure.

One thing I am glad is that now Imran and PTI will look bad infront of the religious and general population alike. Hopefully, his re-election dreams are over after this. Hope its the end of his stupid politcal career which has been shameful.

Really angry at this U-Turn

Sorry but weren't you the one questioning Govt policies against TLP?

The opposition on Monday came down hard on the federal government after the prime minister preferred to address the nation on the ongoing protests via television rather than addressing the parliament and the interior minister excused himself from issuing a policy statement on the crisis.

National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser on Friday instructed Minister for Interior Sheikh Rashid to issue a policy statement on the country-wide protests staged by the outlawed Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) over the arrest of its leader Saad Hussain Rizvi.

However, on Monday, the interior minister left the house earlier after informing the speaker that he was not feeling well and that Minister for Religious Affairs Noorul Haq Qadri would give the statement.

“Where is the prime minister? The interior minister has committed contempt of the house by saying that the PM would give a statement through the TV. What is the purpose of this house,” PPP’s Raja Pervaiz Ashraf said while questioning the absence of the PM and quick departure of the interior minister.

“The prime minister, who otherwise gives big statements on the TV, should have been here today,” the former PM said, adding that “the government is completely responsible for the prevailing situation in the country and has completely failed in fulfilling its responsibilities”.

Ashraf was referring to the violence in Lahore where clashes between the law enforcing agencies (LEAs) and the TLP protestors on Sunday allegedly resulted in loss of lives, damages to properties and abductions of some LEA personnel.

“Confusion prevails as no trustworthy information is available because of a ban on media coverage of the incident,” he added. Asking as to why live bullets were fired on the protestors, he said the government is dividing the nation and doing everything that could lead to fueling more hatred.

“No other government has acted in a more fascist manner,” Ashraf thundered.

He said the government doesn’t even know how to deal with a sensitive issue like Namoos-e-Risalat – the honour of the Holy Prophet (PBUH). “The government is playing with fire,” he added.

The former premier said the interior minister left the house in a hurry instead of giving a complete picture of the situation. “The PM and the interior minister couldn’t stand in the house to give a policy statement and apprise the house about the actual situation,” he added.

Surprisingly, a Fateha was offered for the TLP “martyrs” in the house while the martyrs of the police were not even mentioned. JUI-F MNA Mufti Abdul Shakoor offered Fateha after Speaker Asad Qaiser allowed him to pray for a former MNA.

At the end of Arabic prayers, Shakoor asked the Almighty to accept the shahadat – martyrdom – of the TLP workers. Later in his speech, he said the JUI-F is with the TLP workers.

Criticizing the interior minister, Shakoor said everyone remembers how Rashid incited violence when he was a part of the opposition. Referring to the PTI’s marathon sit-in in 2014 he asked as to who had protested and attacked the police at D-Chowk, which is located right outside the parliament.

“Did the then government open live fire on those protesting at the D-Chowk? Were they declared terrorists?” he questioned. He reminded the house that the punishment for disrespecting the Holy Prophet (PBUH) is death penalty.

After the opposition lawmakers lambasted the PTI-led government, Minister for Religious Affairs Qadri stood up to give a policy statement on the prevailing situation.

He said the government had been trying for the past four months to resolve the issue and was bound to present the matter before the house where all sides would give their point of view.

“Determining the foreign policy is the government’s job,” he said, while explaining that the TLP was negotiating with the government but was also gearing up for a protest scheduled for April 20.

“It is the government’s responsibility to protect life and properties of the people,” he said, adding that Islam doesn’t even permit offering funeral prayers on pathways.

Tired of his speech, the opposition once again protested, saying that two ministers had spoken and yet the policy statement had not been presented. Ashraf termed the speech a “joke” with the house.

As the third minister – Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Ali Muhammad Khan – took the floor and started giving the historical background of the crisis, the opposition members stood up and started complaining to the speaker that they were not in the house to hear such stuff.

In response, the speaker noted that he would adjourn the proceedings if the opposition refused to hear the minister’s speech. When the opposition did not show interest in Khan’s statement, the speaker did adjourn the sitting till 2pm on Thursday.

Earlier, the newly-elected MNA from the PML-N, Nosheen Iftikhar, also took oath.

Sorry but weren't you the one questioning Govt policies against TLP?

I have akwyas maitained that govt should never do talks with tlp.

This situation that came only happened due to pti empowering them in the past. Pti made tlp stronger everytine they listened to tlp.

When they were declared a terrorist organization i was glad. When the police shot these people i was glad that finally this govt will take action amd close this chaoter once and for all.

But this u-turn is an insult.

Pti empowered tlp today.

Imran khan belongs to the elite class. He will probably run back to england after he loses the reelection. Even if he does not, the elite class have their own life.

Me and along with many others are going to suffer in the years to come as tlp was empowered today and got more famous just because our govt listened to them.

The ambassador wil eventually lewve in june as his tenure gets completed by than. But tlp has became more powerful today.

And the less saod about sheikh rasheed the better

Saad Rizvi has been released from prison. He will address Lahore dharna soon!

Total surrender from the state!
To save his seat, imran will do anything.

I have trule lost faith in thia guy today. He will do anything, bend every other way just so that he has support and has his powers.

This guy cant take tough decisions, i have never seen him make any tough decisions. For what does he call himself a cornerned tiger?

He will bow down everytime people will stand up agaisnt him.

You make imran khan IG prisons, if there is an uprising of convicts, he will release all of them to public just so that the prisoners dont hate him.

Pathetix stuff by this govt today

Sorry but weren't you the one questioning Govt policies against TLP?

The problem with some people is that they play both sides. If you crack down, they will quickly do a Uturn and then play the other side. Remember when Mush took on Lal Masjid thugs and the likes of Hamid Mir told him to go for it and then as soon as he did, then said look at what you have done you horrible person.

So in summary:

- a political-religious group has held 12 public servants hostage, killed others and damaged property
- the incumbent government has released all affiliated members and conceded to their demands
- what are the consequences/penalties that have been imposed on this TLP? Surely there must be consequences for challenging the central and federal government

As an outsider looking at this - it’s baffling. If any party did this in the UK they would be arrested, reprimanded and the law and government would come down like a ton of bricks. So this response by the Pakistan government is both baffling but worrying for native residents.

The same PM accused Hazaras of blackmailing him because they did not any street power and they did not use religion as a leverage to further their goals.

Today’s capitulation of the government would send a message to the TLP that with violence, everything is achievable. Having been emboldened by today’s victory, I expect the TLP to come out onto streets every month and demand the government fulfil their wishes. I see the TLP to come out to the streets against minorities especially Ahmedis soon. To sum up, this caving in by the government has set a very wrong precedent and we can forget trying to get rid of extremist thought. This country will become an even scarier place for minorities and people in general.

There is no way to justify this, the government needs to be criticized. Every time they wilt under extremist pressure it sets a very dangerous precedent. The TLP now knows they can get whatever they want as long as they riot in the streets.

Show me a post where i said the tlp crackdown was wrong.

The protests are not so much of a concern in comparison because in SC there are plenty of jobless idiots and attention seeking idiots who are available for these rent-a-protestors role. It’s easy to get these people riled up.

The bigger concern is there is actually a parliament proceeding happening in Pakistan and a debate if the French ambassador should be sent back.

That should be the bigger red flag.

Pakistan is a borderline failed state now. Damage is irreversible - the fact that an extremist organisation TLP can blackmail the government shows our country really deserves to be on FATF black list. The country is in shambles.

It is all good to want crack down and i have no sympathy of these thugs but PK is a perilous situation with crooks willing to use any methods to avoid accountability( you had Nooras siding and rioting with TLP), you have personal enmity between Diesel and IK and then on top you have 5th generation warfare. The reality is that the PK state writ has been weak for a long time, look at the failure to arrest Maryam after her supporters throw stones at NAB. Its not great

https://tribune.com.pk/story/2295806/tlp-calls-off-nationwide-protests-as-na-debates-french-envoy-expulsion

The proscribed Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) has called off nationwide protests, including a sit-in in Lahore, after the federal government tabled a resolution in the National Assembly to debate the matter of French ambassador's expulsion.

Dr Shafiq Amini along with other senior members of the TLP central council announced the decision, saying that for the first time in the history of Pakistan, a resolution on deportation of the French ambassador has been tabled in the lower house of parliament.

He said that the protests have been ended as the government had fulfilled its promise of presenting the resolution in parliament.

Earlier in the day, a resolution was tabled in the National Assembly for the deportation of the French ambassador from Pakistan over the issue of blasphemous caricatures published in the European country and the subsequent remarks by French President Emmanuel Macron.

NA Speaker Asad Qaiser presided over the session during which MNA Amjad Ali Khan presented the resolution.

It stated that blasphemous sketches were published by a French magazine, and then the French president's remarks hurt the sentiments of hundreds of millions of Muslims in the name of freedom of expression.

"The House condemns the publication of insulting sketches by the controversial French magazine Charlie Hebdo and Muslims around the world had also expressed outrage at the publication of the sketches," the resolution added.

The resolutions also asked for a debate over the issue of deporting the French ambassador and also proposed to provide spaces in different parts of the country for protests on religious issues.

It added that instead of blocking roads, specific places for protests should be identified.

“All Muslim countries should be consulted on the issue and all European countries in general and France, in particular, should be made aware of the seriousness of the issue,” the resolution further added.

Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Ali Muhammad Khan also moved a motion to form a parliamentary committee on the issue.

The house was then adjourned till Friday, April 23

like i said, show me post where i was agains the tlp crackdown

Read the post, I was talking about Hamid Mir and his ilk playing both sides to please their masters. From you posts you want chaos. Difficult situations require delicate handling or we end up in civil war.

I understand that people feel strongly about their religion, and want others to also respect their religion.

In truth, if I believe something passionately, it should matter little to me what others think of my beliefs.

Pakistan as a country has many important economic issues to solve. It's entire energy at the moment seems to be taken up with a temper tantrum because some people in another country mocked their religion.

You want to have the last laugh. The world laughs at you when you have to go to them asking them to bail you out from potential bankruptcy. Fix your economy. If you are doing well economically you can laugh at those who mock you.

This entire thing of getting very upset because someone mocked your religion is completely counterproductive. No foreign investors will want to set up manufacturing plants when they see the rioting in the streets and the government bowing to fundamentalists.

Has it ever occurred to you that religion is the way a lot of people who are incapable of leading the country to prosperity gain power?

Are you really that insecure about your religious beliefs that you need to throw a temper tantrum when someone mocks your beliefs?

Government should not give in. If they let these people dictate now then they will forever resort to such tactics. A better option will be to keep shooting them and reduce their numbers, they will either learn to go home or enough of them will die to not be a problem anymore for generations to come.

I have seen some videos on YouTube and it looks like thousands are on the street in support of TLP. You cannot shoot all of them. It will only enrage them even more.

Army rangers will also find it difficult to shoot a guy saying “Ya Rasool Allah “.

Some reports say Saad Rizvi hasn't been released yet, they were his old pics in public.

^ Saad Rizvi has not been released. It seems to me the government wants to save face and get him out through a court.

669 TLP protestors have been released: Sheikh Rasheed

TLP can file an appeal against their banning : Sheikh Rasheed

Exactly as I had expected. The TLP would file an appeal and then the government will unban it. This is just to save some face.

This is so sad and tragic. I am afraid Pakistan as a country has become a lost cause. Nothing short of total revolution of enlightenment in that country can make it a modern livable society again.

Its easy to learn, but very difficult to unlearn. The generation that got radicalized will be there for another 30 years before they start to fade away. But as a start, the kids in Pakistan must be taught free thinking and education must be made high priority for Pakistan to bounce back in coming decades.
