Continued ...Good post.
Babar plays more different types of shots in odis then in tests.
The flick of his hips which he played in the first innings, even mickey arthur said on straight drive, when babar plays that shot i know he is in form i.e. he does play that shot but not that often, only when he is in form.
The back foot pull shot against the spinners, i have already credited him for and Abdullah bhai has shown that he plays it occassionally against a poor long hop delivery by pacers as well, but not against a good short ball from a pacer which requires more skill and timing.
Continue in next post ...
The flick through mid wicket is a shot he plays quite well and is one of the rare on side shots he plays apart from pulling poor balls from spinners and pacers.
The backfoot shot behind point is another shot he plays but not that often.
So you have listed shots that babar either plays only when he isvin form(flick of the hip) or shots he plays to bad deliveries(pull and flicks to mid wicket).
I accept your assessment, but still maintain that babars only main shot to a GOOD DELIVERY is the off drive. He occassionally plays other shots but only if he is in form or to bad deliveries.
Yes i also accept that most batsman have their favourite shot, thats only natural.
But i think babar relies more heavily on his favourite shot than most top players.
Babar canot play hook or pull against
good deliveries by pacers.
Babar cannot sweep or reverse sweep spinners.
Babar is vey poor on square cuts or horizontal bat shots, he plays mostly with a vertical bat( which is a good thing as he doesnt hit the ball in the air that much but still is a limitation in his shot arsenal).
Babar is predominantly a off side player with only flicks and pulls to poor balls on the leg side, but not too many drives to mid on region.
Babar has no power game(more important in white ball games) but warner showed that a power game in tests can take the game away from the opposition
Babar lacks stamina, gets tired and cannot score big dady hundreds let alone double centuries , which was required in these tests in australia from our best batsman.
Babar has a weakness on fifth stump line, because the ball is too wide to drive and he does not posses a square cut shot.
Babar has failed when the pressure is on eg this second test innings in australia.
Overall, i maintain that babar is a limited technical batsman who relies,in tests, mainly on off drives, which he plays beautifully and fools people into thinking he has all the shots in the book . Yes he also plays some flicks, but he is mostly a one trick pony. Any opposing captain who sets the off side field correctly against babar will dry up his run scoring ability. I am pretty sure kohli would do this if we ever played test, which is highly unlikely any time soon.
All that said, babar is the best bat in pakistan and a top 10 bat in tests in the world, this rubbish about him being top 5 is just overhype.
