[VIDEO] "I learnt to bowl the wobble seam delivery by watching Mohammad Asif" : James Anderson

Anderson speaking to Ponting on the origins of the wobble ball:

'In the summer of 2010 we played against Pakistan and Mohammad Asif was bowling this ball that sort of just wobbled a little bit, it wasn't seam up, he wasn't trying to swing it, he was just trying to nip it off the seam, so I spent the whole of that summer trying to practise it, work on it and then when I got (to Australia) I felt comfortable to bowl it in a game and it did actually have some success for me throughout that (2010/11 Ashes) series.'

Would Asif make a great bowling coach for Pakistan?

everytime u try to forget asif, someone else mentions him again, considering how short his career was, he certainly left a lasting impression.

would make an interesting bowling coach, i mean ive heard him talk and i think a lot of his approach relied on setting up batsmen, u can explain that to bowlers, but unless they have the mental belief that you will pull it off, and the patience and skill to persist they wouldn't be able to pull it off.

Only himself to blame, in their prime both Amir and Asif would have ruled world cricket.

Both have attitude problems

I know one thing - the 2011 World Cup was Pakistan’s to lose if Asif and Amir had played. Without them they still got to the semis where the match was won by Tendulkar who was dropped 3 times.

What a waste. Asif would be an GOAT had he practiced some discipline.

Lol you have world class batsmen mentioning Asif as the toughest bowler they faced and you also have world class bowler who learned the art watching him.

I personally have met some pakistani cricketers of the past and I have to admit that Asif looked the most down to earth and he was also very humble and likeable. Pity he never fulfilled his promise due to those various scandals.

If he could pass on his bowling knowledge and skill set then he could be a hugh asset for future Pakistani bowlers.

You would have to pay him a handsome amount for coaching. Indians might offer him life changing money but then again will they hire a player with fixing history?

Amla, Anderson, KP, AB de Villiers are just some of the players who have praised Mohammad Asif. That just shows the quality of his bowling and his levels of skill.

The wobble delivery is a delivery that baffled even the best as it meant that they had no clue which way it was going to move. A high level of skill and a lot of hard work needed to perfect it.

The action the seam even the nice lift, he really was simply world class.

I think the team should have been

Salman Butt
Kamran Akmal
Umar Akmal
Md Yusuf
Misbah
Shoaib Malik
A. Razzak
S.Afridi
Md Amir
S.Ajmal
Md Asif

This team has batting right till 9 . Six bowling options , Middle order has spin playing expert.

Asif is a once-a-lifetime generation bowler , you saw him once , will probably never see that talent again. Its a privilege to have seen him, bowler.

He got enough seam , just to get batsman out , line and length on spot , what a bowler!

The test Match were Irfan got a hattrick , and Pakistan were 0 for 3 at one stage, I wonder what would have Asif done if Pakistan had bowled first on that surface , he probably would have been literally unplayable.

He wouldn’t be able to teach them how to set up batsmen that effectively. You hear him talk and you just know he had a gift for when to bowl the right delivery.

Wouldn’t last long as a bowling coach. Has too many disciplinary issues for that to be effective.
