Haris Rauf at a media talk today:
I am thankful to Allah for being selected for my country. Performing in BBL is very different to performing for your country and the feeling is different. I will try to do as well as I can for my country.
Whenever you perform on any stage, your performance is given recognition. I was performing and I had an idea that my name might come up for the Bangladesh series.
I played professional cricket with tape ball in Pakistan but when I was selected after the trials, I gave up tape ball cricket. It's been 2 years now with hard ball cricket, I was playing well and now I am about to represent Pakistan. I am hopeful of performing well in future too.
When you come into the team, you want to serve your country for a long time and make a name for yourself and your country. I want to represent Pakistan in all three formats. I'm getting a start in T20Is, insha'Allah going forward if I get chances in ODIs and Tests, I will do well for my country.
Playing in leagues vs country are different things. Playing at home with your own crowd will boost me up and I won't take pressure, I will take it as a positive thing and try to perform well.
Musa and Hasnain have played a couple of series so they already have a bit of an idea of how to play international cricket. I played domestic cricket with them for a couple of years so there isn't much pressure on me. I have confidence that when I get a chance, I will utilise them and give my 100%.
It's a home series and I feel proud that I will make my debut at home. Insha'Allah we will try to win the series, my target is to be the best bowler of the series. I have a chance, I will give my 100% and I will try to perform for my country as I have done in the BBL.
I did a celebration in Australia but I felt it was wrong and people there thought it was wrong so in the next match, I apologised for my mistake and changed to adaab in typical Pakistani style.
It's the dream for every player to represent his country and play for the star. I have a chance for that now and the happiness for that is something different.
I was with Aqib bhai for 2 years and now I have a chance to work with Waqar bhai. Aqib bhai is a legend and so is Waqar bhai, I will try to learn from them. The way I do death bowling with reversing yorkers, Waqar bhai used to do that really well. He had control on his reverse so I will try to perfect that when I work with him and I am hopeful I will learn a lot.
I was selected in LQ trials and then I found out about my speed. When I was bowling 140+, I focused on speed because if you are bowling 140+ in Pakistan, you won't be neglected. I wanted to bowl at an average of 140+ in PSL and whenever I train, I try to maintain my pace and I have worked on my fitness and train hard. I touched 150 in BBL but I wasn't thinking about, I just want to bowl as fast as I can but I want to make sure I stay 140+ on average consistently.
In BBL, you can have 2 overseas players in the playing XI so most of the domestic players get chances. It's a very good thing for them to play at that level similar to international level and they get to handle pressure. Similarly in Pakistan, when players come to LQ or any franchise, they get exposure and confidence increases. This mindset helps players to be ready for international cricket in advance.
Fast-bowlers do get injured because you have to put in a lot of effort in training and in the ground. If you train well, I don't think you will get injured.
When my name came up, it was a big moment, I was very happy and thankful for my parent's prayers. They were very happy and making your parents happy makes you happy as well.
Amir and Wahab aren't there but Shaheen has some experience and I played with him in PSL and we made a good combination.
When you go into the ground and see the match situation, you bowl according to that so I haven't set any targets as such.
I wasn't disheartened after not being picked after PSL. I wasn't perhaps that fit at that time but my target was and is the T20 World Cup. If you keep performing, I don't think you should be upset, you should wait for your chance and give your 100%.
