Here he is practicing power hitting... Seems to be eager to impress - Don't see anything in him which suggest he will walk away from the game soon....

The way Iftikhar is still to perform consistently at no 4 in T20I where he was tried in the last T20I or so and get his confidence, while Kamran Ghulam who has been one of the best batsman across the formats in domestic cricket is still to play for Pakistan in any format so unless Iftikhar performs we might again see Shoaib in the team (Babar also likes having him around).

Longshot but, I think the way Mohammad Haris' game is setup and the way he was playing the pulls and cuts in PSL, plays spin decently with quite a few unconventional areas that he can traget there is a chance he can be handy in Aus but, then again he is young and yet to debut. Plays 50 overs cricket as a finisher at 5-6 with decent amount of success for KPK in last couple of seasons so can play at no 4 in T20Is considering our top order is pretty much settled. However, doubt much though will be given to him as of now. Eventually he is gonna play for Pakistan though.

Agreed.

Don't think Malik Sahib is going anywhere and will travel to Australia for the age old balance between experience and in experienced player thing!

Of course not. He is not good in SENA conditions and never has been. Can't even use the excuse of "experience" either considering he has played a whopping 1 T20 in Australia despite an extremely long career. He put up 3(11) in that one T20 by the way.

He's been horrible in ODI's and struggles to play pace. Zero reason for him to be included at this point other than it's simply a name we know.

He should not only go to the T20 world cup but should be captain of the team.
He's at his peak now, with experience under his belt, and at least 10-15 years of international cricket ahead of him.

Australia and England have been his bane in all formats.
So no.

But I am not convinced Haider Ali is the option either.

Why not? Make him captain and bring back Hafeez, Gul, Sami, Kamran, Misbah, Afridi, Nazir, Jamshed, S Tanvir, Ajmal... and get rid of Babar, Rizwan, Shaheen......
Make Hasan Ali as vice captain for his wonderful performance in 2021 World Cup.

Your sarcasm would be meaningful if Malik wasn't still the best option for his position. Even Hafeez is better than what we have now.

You left out Younus Khan

Better to lose every single game then have a couple of 40 odd year olds in the side

Azhar Ali while speaking on a show when he was asked a question about Shoaib Malik's return for the T20 World Cup:

“Everyone can have their own opinion, but I would say that we should move on. Shoaib Malik has made many contributions to Pakistan cricket. This is my own opinion. It’s not that he can’t play in the World Cup, but my opinion is that we have to keep moving.”

So....

Shoaib Malik has had a pretty decent PSL.
He's been batting and bowling pretty well and still keeps in good shape.
Based on merit, he might deserve a spot in the squad me thinks.
Not that I would be a huge fan of the move, but I could see it making sense.

Not to mention, he still has pretty decent hair for a 40+ year old :)

Shoaib Malik dismissed Jason Roy after a dismal performance with the bat for KK, his figures so far 1/2 in 1 over.

He should be coach but as player he offer little against teams with guys that can bowl decent pace.
He's even struggling against spinner and the only shot he's got now for spinner is also a dab to 3rd man. Should retire to end a truly rubbish career.

Recalling Shoaib Malik would be a step backward.

Even though he is doing okay at franchise cricket, I don't think he should be recalled. He is like 45 years old now.

The way malik batted tonight it's better for him to step aside and let any other deserving player play for Karachi Kings.

he is just wasting the resource!
I dont understand the decisions of KK management, where is the under 19 hero Saad Baig. So pathetic from KK to bench him.

If he is playing well, I think it is worth a gamble to take him.

He also has CPL experience and Caribbean pitches may suit him.

Shoaib stole the spot light from Irfan who played a super inning to set up the game for Karachi kings, but Shoaib's inning proved that experience matters the most.

--------------------------

Mohammad Hafeez speaking about Shoaib Malik's inning against Lahore Qalandars, said:
"In today’s game, Malik ensured that he stayed until the end. He also mentioned in his interview that he wanted to demonstrate his ability to finish the match. In my opinion, an experienced player with a cool head, who knows how to handle the game’s situation, is invaluable. He gave confidence to another young player, Irfan Niazi who played very well. That was a special moment for the Karachi Kings because they made a difficult match easier with this partnership. If Malik had been out at that point, the incoming youngsters, like Arafat Minhas, might not have been able to handle the pressure. So, that partnership was the deciding moment of the game.”

“If you look at Malik’s innings, we didn’t see a high strike rate, but the way he controlled the match and took responsibility was commendable. He instilled confidence in everyone and carried the match forward."

It will be similar to us taking Dinesh Karthik in the last t20WC, trust me it doesn’t work.

Someone who is now a part time analyst on a game show should never be picked, he is no longer an international cricketer. Let him play leagues.

Also the World cup is in West Indies not Asia, we all know how good Malik is outside the subcontinent

If there's one place outside subcontinent where Malik can deliver. It's literally West Indies. Not sure about the pitches in America. But in West Indies he has shown and can play spinners there well.

West Indies conditions aren't that different from Asia's.

Slow and low pitches mostly.
True but also depends where you go.

Barbados and St Lucia generally has good pace and carry whereas Trinidad and Guyana are almost subcontinental. When Bangladesh toured in 2022, Tamim Iqbal said the Guyana pitches spun more than Mirpur.

Now according to a recent interview with CWI director of cricket Miles Bascombe, they've relaid some of the pitches to inject extra pace and bounce.

For example at St Vincent, he said they've reduced the clay content from 4 ft to 8 in, and introduced a layer of sand and gravel to improve drainage.

In America, Shoaib Malik said on The Pavilion the surfaces were as slow as Sharjah. However he may have also been looking to improve his chances of selection :ROFLMAO:

Grandpa Malik has been mediocre for his entire career expect for the exploits against india in the 00s.

Do pak really need to go back to this pensioner in 2024

Shoaib Malik dominates the leaderboard with thrilling unbeaten innings in successful chases with India's Chase Master Virat Kohli hot on his heels

Short answer: No not anymore

Long answer: He's too old but then again we have chacha playing till 60, rather him him > Chacha atleast.

Malik should call it a day now. He has done enough. Should turn into a domestic coach or something. His game against spin is pretty exemplary.

I think he would do well in our middle order especially with his CPL record.

That said, absolutely not. Let's please move on

Yes.

We need him due to his ability against spin on slow pitches.

Malik can stabilise the middle order.

Malik has a great record against India.

Malik is a team man and great leader.

The year is 2024.

Malik is a better player than Rizwan.

So I dont mind him in the team.

He has experience.

Infact, he has greater chance of playing a match winning knock against A teams of Australia, India and England than Babar or Rizwan.

Pak batting order is very stable with 2 anchors at the top opening the innings, now just need someone who can anchor the middle and lower order.
Malik can be that missing link. :inti

Shoaib Malik is a miss-fire now. His time to play for Pakistan is long gone. His performance was also not that good in PSL and domestic which can earn him a spot in the team.
