Exactly what we needed. Two out of form, tried and tested failures in the squad for a major tournament and also in a fight now. Pakistan cricket never fails to keep me interested.

Whether Junaid told the team he was ill or not, the captain needs to cover for his player and make up a vague injury/illness for the cameras and then give Junaid a boot up the backside behind closed doors.

Anyone with half a brain knows you don't publicly hang a player out to dry like that, which says a lot about Junior's mental capacity when it comes to being a captain.

lol ... it was bound to happen with Umar Akmal as a captain.

PCB has taken notice of the recent happening in the case of Punjab Team Captain Umer Akmal's interview and a response from his team mate Junaid Khan. Pakistan Cricket Board has constituted a 3-member Inquiry Committee headed by GM Domestic Cricket Shafiq Ahmed to look into the matter.*

Other members of the committee are Manager and Coach of Punjab Team playing in the ongoing Pakistan Cup at Pindi Stadium.*

The committee will submit its findings in this matter as early as possible.*

What is this?

They were in the same team and still Umar wasn't aware of Junaid's health.

None of the PCB's business, it's a matter for Umar, Junaid and thePunjab team management. PCB needs to stop sticking their nose in everywhere.

Not surprised, Umar was too busy worrying about the breakfast spread at the hotel to think about team selection.

His fans recommended him to captain the national side. What a mental midget. Today again UMAR Amin proved who is in form. PCB selected UAKMAL for CT2017 based on nothing.

Imagine if both were dropped as punishment and replaced by Amin and Yamin... Okay time to stop dreaming.

Illiteracy at its level best. Then people on PakPassion ask for Umer Akmal inclusion in the team.

Umar said nothing wrong there

what do you think PCB should do instead, just sit and watch. The tournament is organised by PCB and they need to dig in deep to this issue and question everyone involved including the Punjab team management for the chaos. Upon investigation this can end up on disciplinary action on UA or JK or both. the team management is also responsible for any communication gap if there is any.

Junaid wont name all those doctors and managers without a reason. Umar akmal's previous episodes also dont help his cause.

Why?

ICC organises the World Cup and Champions Trophy, if two Pakistani players get into an argument away from a match should the PCB punish the players or do you think the ICC should start a big investigation into the matter?

It's a internal matter for the Punjab team, got nothing to do with the PCB at all.

Umar said nothing wrong there

The captain doesn't come to the toss so underprepared or undecided. He should know which 11 he is playing today as he needs to submit the team 11 sheet to match referee before that or just before the toss when he meet him. Completely unprofessional from Umar as a captain. If a captain boots or hangs his player publicly that poorly reflects on the player, captain and the team. Simply say he is not playing due to injury and who is replacing him. Have seen in few occasions were captain forget who is the replacement but not like this.

How so? Manager and coach plus the team doctor must have told him the real reason (sickness) why Junaid didn't come...unless he was advised incorrectly (very slight chance of that though)!

If he knew the real reason and still chose to say so (as he did in the video), if I was Junaid, I would be pretty peeved as well

It is quite complex. That is international and every country has a board to deal with such issues. In this case PCB is the board and this tournament is not organised by Punjab cricket board. The respective body or board is responsible to curb any potential disciplinary issue. Organisers are committed to maintain dignity and to play in right spirit throughout the tournament that is why players gets fine, reprimanded etc. which ICC match referee gives. Of course the first part of investigation should be from the team management. So now what if the team management is at fault here and not the players who will question them for the chaos created which tarnished the image of the players, tournament and PCB publicly.

How has it tarnished the image of the PCB?

It's just made Umar look like a fool.

This isn't an on-field spat that requires match referees to get involved, this is a disagreement between two individuals that could easily be sorted out by a two minute chat and apology between Junior and Junaid.

A PCB investigation doesn't help anybody, does more harm than good and is only happening because some prat in a suit wants to try and feel important.

Well, Umar said that he was surprised and disappointed etc. - negative connotations.

May be he wasn't communicated about Junaid's ill health.

Umar should have softened his tone. But its not his forte. Why would the manager and coach lie to Umar about Junaid's absence when Junaid is saying that he already communicated this to the authorities and coach?

A petty issue blown out of porportion.

To everybody defending Umar Akmal.

You are a "26 year old" captaining a side being broadcast on National TV.

You come to the ground hours before and you have no idea that a member of your squad is missing and you don't notify your Management and instead you come on National TV and you vent!

Is that justifiable behavior from a 6 year old let alone a 26 year old International sportsman?

I am a very calm and open minded person but I have to say that I am "irked" by Umar Akmal for Non-Cricketing reasons, not that his Cricket is outstanding by any standards.

Anyone else "irked" by Umar Akmal, the person?

Look at Junaid's physique, and this guy pretends to be a fast bowler. Don't think he is more than 65 kg, unless he has a lot of bone weight.

??

Again umar knew the 11 that was gonna play

All umar said was that junaid didnt reach the ground and doesnt know the reason even after asking staff.

Now whatever happened to juanid, the news didnt reach his ears. And thats what he said at toss

Junaid did this drama by going on tv and saying stuff which umar didnt even said

Again, you yourself are using the word must here.

We do not know whether umar akmal was told or not, but what appears right now, akmal wasnt given any news of his sickness and he said nothing wrong at toss.

He's lean which is what a pace bowler should be like. Unless you want everyone to become like Sohail and run out of gas after three overs.

Broad, Steyn, Anderson, Rabada, etc are all lean men and that is what modern cricket requires pace bowlers to be.

Silly stuff from both of them. Akmal needs to learn how to lead his team and Junaid didn't have to make this thing public.

There is a difference between lean and skinny. The bowlers you mentioned don't have much muscle mass, but they are not skinny and malnourished like Junaid. Sohail Khan has uneven distribution of muscle mass on his body + he has slow-twitch muscle fibers. Physically, he is simply not made for fast bowling. Junaid has fast-twitch muscle fibers which is why he can bowl high 130s in spite of being underweight. With increased muscle mass, he can definitely hit 150. It is a shame to see a professional athlete with the physique of a young boy, but that simply sums up his attitude and hunger.

Big deal. Look at amir

Plus junaid is sufferring from food poisioning which causes dehydration aswell i believe. Probably not the best time to judge his outlook

He's lean, not skinny. Of course, it would be good if he builds a little bit more upper-body mass but he's in way better shape than someone like Sohail or Akmal.

Amir is in better shape than Junaid, but needs to improve as well. Don't know about dehydration, but Junaid has always looked the same.

Basically this.

He is skinny, not lean. Yes he is in better shape than Sohail and Umar for a fast bowler, but that doesn't mean much. Umar is terribly unfit.

According to Junaid, Umar Akmal knew that he was not well and would miss the match.

In his defence, he was probably too preoccupied with maintaing his fitness and reducing water weight in time for the CT.

Donal Cozzie you're going to enjoy this :)) what a beautiful shambles

What does that have anything to do with this thread? Are you implying that Junaid's physique suggests that he is a compulsive liar because apparently he also lies about being a fast bowler?

Both are pathetic but Junaid has a history with fake injuries. SA 2013....

dont think that way fake, he got injured jet sking, the PCB didnt want to admit letting the team do something like that on tour so they made some excuse about his wrist getting stuck in a door

When exactly did Umar say that Junaid "ran away"?

Immature from Umar but I doubt he knew about Junaid's injury; otherwise, why would he act like he doesn't know about it? What would he gain by doing from that?

Junaid should've atleast been classy instead of giving the media more stuff to play with. Made matters worse, although if what he is saying is right, he does have a right to be ticked off.

Immaturity all round but I think Junaid really made it worse, and he really shouldn't have made up stuff like "oh, Umar said I ran away" because judging from the video in the OP that is NOT true.

What was the need for Umar to speak of his bowler in that way?

tbh ive always felt steyn is super skinny too

hes like a stick really

So, Umar couldn't have used restraint, it is always the traffic waal, police man, the other guy, dude, player etc. that is wrong!

Good to know that you trust this family so much and a player that faked back pain to get his brother included in the team

this has nothing to do with the trafiic wala, police wala etc...

I'm always criticizing Umar Akmal .

But this is just stupid to assume that Umar is wrong, when he himself is saying that when he reached ground he found out Junaid wasn't coming.
And junaid made a mountain hole out of nothing, as Umar Akmal never on TV said that Junaid ran away., So it shows who is lying here

Keep digging the grave deeper and deeper!

number rule of captaincy is that whatever has happened you dont throw your playerz under the bus by going public like this

Even if this was true you make an excuse back them in public and deal with things in private

This is expected tho from someone of umar limited IQ Whoever thought this guy should be made captain needs sacking

which genius made umar akmal captain of anything? the guy has the leadership skills of a cockroach

To people wondering why Junaid needed to answer with a video message, well that was very important. If you have honest people around you, you would not need to come with an answer like that. Junaid could have gone to team management and complain about Umar and things would have been sorted out in fair way.

But this is Pakistan and one of the Akmals. Had Junaid not answered this would have been brushed under the carpet and every one would have hated Junaid merely on one sided story from Umar.

Why don't we use this opportunity and drop both from CT squad. Win-win situation :afridi

It's poor leadership no matter how you slice it.

And Junaid made things worse but that's the state of things. People run with one person's story unless you cut the middle man and tell your side to the press or through social media.

Says a lot about the setup to be honest.

tbh ive always felt steyn is super skinny too

hes like a stick really

Steyn has little fat and strong muscles... Real strength that comes from physical activity, not pumping iron like over-sized gym rat....

Memo to PCB: Never make Umar Akmal captain of any team at any level ever again.

What does that have anything to do with this thread? Are you implying that Junaid's physique suggests that he is a compulsive liar because apparently he also lies about being a fast bowler?

Nothing, it was just an observation. As far as the actual issue is concerned, well two rubbish players are having a go at each other. I'm suprised (yes, even by our[/] stands) that this has been made public. Perhaps there is more to their beef than we know.

Nonetheless, given how Junaid has been treated in this tournament, running away may well have been in his best interests.

People defending Mr. 'Paani bhi peeta hun to weight gain ho jata hai'...this is all I wanted to see LOL

Steyn appears toned to me, certainly nothing like malnourished Junaid.

Don't want to go off-topic here but there's no comparison...

I still dont understand what Umar did was so wrong?

He came to the ground found one of his players isn't coming big deal. He answer a freaken question that was asked from him

Never did he say he ran away.

Never did he say he ran away.

Compare and contrast these two answers to the question "Why isn't Junaid Khan playing?"

1) Well, he's got a slight niggle so we thought it best to rest him and keep him fit and it gives one of the youngsters a chance to show what he can do

2) I have no idea, I turned up to the ground and Junaid wasn't here. I asked the coach and manager and they told me Junaid said he's not coming today. As a captain, this is shocking to me

One answer doesn't **** off one of your players if he is injured, nor does it prevent you from phoning Junaid or going to the hotel after the game and ripping him a new one if it turns out he was faking.

The other answer DOES **** off your player if he is genuinely ill or injured. It also makes your player angry even if he is faking because you've just chucked him under the bus on TV AND you've created media drama where there was none before.

This shouldn't be so difficult to understand.
