Pak fans and media do go over the top after a defeat and no need for any coach to feel this way. Esp a Pakistan cricket team coach feeling this way brings back tragic memories of our greatest ever coach Bob Woolmer, so perhaps not the right words in such a context.

However Mickey needs to understand fans will still support the team and will forgive easily if we win the 4 remaining matches, 3 more to go. Also sorry to say but if the players are not giving 100% effort and seem to be using their time in England for enjoyment over hard work and dedication they will be criticsed and as witnessed this has given them a kick up the backside. The performance v Saffers were superb.

I feel bad for mickey.
Mickey is a emotional guy.
But no game is more important than someones life!
To hell with the world cup, mickey just look aftet yourself!
We don't want to lose anyone like we did with the great late bob woolmer over a stupid cup!

I don't think he meant this the way some people are making out.
Ie he doesn't need to see a mental health specialist

for God sake. stop it. if the coach is mentally weak thn why the hell we blame our team.
for the record, our team is a dheet one.

No true professional will say such a childish thing no matter how tough things get.

Poor from Mickey!

Maybe he was overjoyed with victory against SA and lost his senses a little.

Foreigners can't handle Pakistani fans & media pressure. No doubt, coaching or playing for PCT is the most difficult job in sports world.

One thing that I have realised about Mickey Arthur is that he loves Pakistan cricket and he wears his heart on his sleeve.

It's not an act, he genuinely wants Pakistan cricket to succeed and he has a lot of respect and admiration for the players.

Yes I've never doubted this. Genuine guy.

Just some decisions have been questionable.

He is an emotional man committed to his job and I believe very sincere to Pakistan Cricket. But we need someone truly professional with no such emotions.

I don't think he's joking about it. Maybe he genuinely felt that way and it is sad. This man has no loyalty to Pakistan yet is so passionate about the country doing well. Perhaps our fans and media are putting the team through momentary periods of intense pressure.

Mickey is often seen standing alone in pavilion balcony during tense phases of the match. Mickey needs to relax & think of it as a job & sport not a matter of life or death for someone. Fans, players & management need to support him too.
Its just another WC, fans & media will get back to normal life in a week's time regardless where we finish.

Doesn't change the fact he is not fit for the job. His overall tenure is a failure

This is exactly the thing hes on about

Everyword or action being dissected and scrutenised and manipulated and pressure put on the coach and players for no reason

Its a figure of speech Lets not turn this into something it isnt to be used against him Talk about the next game now

If you see the likes of Waqar and Mohsin to replacing him, don't come crying on here when that ends up in tears. Don't forget the former (along with Misbah) took us to 9th in the ODI rankings.

Also don't try to imagine the role of head coach of the Pakistan side is some kind of prestigious role and somehow envisage a flock of top class coaches around the world queuing up for interviews, with their updated CVs.

If you don't know who the main culprits are, I guess Mickey Arthur, with the "head coach" title is the easy target to go after.

Well said Saj - it seems a lot of posters are quick to call for his head because it seems they don't have a clue who the main culprits are.

Alot of people on here saying its a off the cuff remark and a figure of speech and he didn't mean it.
He looked like he meant it to me.
He said it as a passing remark, but i think it was a genuine remark.
Now i don't know anything about mickey's family or if he gets to spend much time with them. But if he doesn't and he spends all this time alone, it will get to a person, no matter how strong they are!
I hope someone from pcb asks mickey if hes ok and offers him support!
I am from the uk and i can tell you western people take alot of pride in their work and if things go bad, they take it very personally!
I think pcb should now just clarify whether they are going to keep mickey on or not.
My opinion is mickey has made quite a few mistakes, but i can see alot of good he has achieved as well, so i think they should give him another 4 years to the next wc, with some provisos such as improving the test results.
For whatever people think of mickey, i think he is a good man and pak cricket could do alot worse if they hire someone else!

Well said brother, by watching the clip it does sounds like he meant it. I know it's a world cup but people seriously should just enjoy the game and not insult players or coaches also PCB should actually give Coaching staff assurity regarding their future plans with the team. Hanging their jobs in the line in the middle of the most important cricket tournament, really bad from PCB.

Suicide comment shouldn't be taken lightly, I know in subcontinent people brushes it aside but it's a serious issue.

He is sincere and speaks with passion that's for sure (think Woolmer). I think given the whole system, culture, media etc of Pak cricket no coach can really do that much. There are too many lobbies, groups etc that wouldn't let anyone sincere actually do their job.

For all the hooplah we are looking to going back to Mohsin Khan, I have supported this team through thick and thin and will till they are actually, totally, without the shadow of a doubt out of the WC, but if MHK becomes head coach I will wash my hands off this whole circus.

Absolutely. I am working in west for like 10 years, I can now see the insecurity, toxicity and general lack of grace/respect/gratitude in our desi junta. I remember fans burnt posters of Greg Chappell in India after debacle of 2007. I myself wrote abuses on Facebook back then. Now, I can see how stupid and immature I was. Greg Chappell’s Aussie style where all players are equally important and there is no hierarchy senior/junior made our seniors very insecure. In a way he was right, that’s how things are done in west. Every day I hear some abuses towards Mickey from ex Pak players , they call him **** n all that. It’s so sad and unprofessional.

You are absolutely right brother, in asia people don't take such remarks seriously.
Pcb has a duty of care for all its employees and should be giving mickey all the support he needs!
God forbid anything bad happens, it won't just be the media and fans to blame but pcb for failing to provide due care for its employees!

hes made an utmost attempt to decipher the workings of the team between players and then the politics involved with the Coach and PCB chairman,..hes quite clearl trying his best.

Unfortuntely it isnt working out when it matters and that is certainly down to him.he needs to be replaced but in the most respectful of manner, i kind of feel sympathetic towards the mental state he has right no.w

These professionals take up a job where their main prowess is organization of team structure, individual ttention to each player and finding the right combination. now he has to face pressure from higher up about team selection and get more and more alienated with the way the pcb council functions.

The jingoistic, impulsive behavoiur, the assaults on players having family time, the 24/7 shaming from print and social media.
Just reffirms the point that a pak coach should be some one from this neck of the woods who knows how the system works here.

You have my support Mickey

Think he was meant to say suicidal, rather than what he did say.

Either way it's a figure of speech and the death of Woolmer [from a heart attack] in 2007 has nothing to do with this either, you muppets

Mickey Arthur for all his mistakes and issues, has been the most sincere towards Pakistan team not with words but with his actions.

If Coach had a say in squad selection Arthur would've built this Pakistan team as a contender in all formats.

Most of the criticism against him comes from Pakistani ex-cricketers and their media tools [likes of Yahya Hussaini] who have a problem with every foreign coach as they believe that all jobs in PCB is their birthright.

We have seen with what former Pakistani cricket stars like Waqar Younis [as coach] and now Inzamam [as chief selector] have done to the Pakistan team.

Oh Mickey the tragic hero...

Arthur is the strongest coach in terms of power he wields in Pakistan cricket history

Quite an idiotic thing to say during Q/A. Not something you need to announce to media, especially desi media, who will make killer stories out of nothing.

Spot on.Then we have former players like Pathetic Shoiab Akhtar,K Akmal,Butt,Razzaq who will just criticize just to further their own interests. These ex players consider themselves God as Sarfi said.Mickey is more Pakistani than some of our these so called legends

There are higher pressure jobs in world sports with more glory and much more money at stake, its just that fans from the subcontinent and media are among the most annoying in the world.

What nonsense some of you are talking obviously he's not serious. Did you guys miss the smirk on his face after he said it.

Micky is passionate and wants Pak cricket to succeed. I like him and want him to stay after wc.

Give him an Oscar already.

On a serious note imo he has mastered the art of survival.
