If we can have players who have actually been involved in match/spot fixing then why can’t we have our best middle order batsman back, whose only crime was to not report an approach. If players like Haider Ali and Asif Ali had done well at international level then there would be no way back for Akmal, but the problem is that his spot hasn’t been claimed by anyone. There’s not one player whose solidified the number 5 slot for Pakistan based on performances at the international level. So the way I see it is, everyone has a chance to claim that spot, and it shouldn’t be any different for Umar. Insha Allah, Umar Akmal will be back in the team before the WC in 2023. Maybe by then he’ll be able to see his own toes.

Middle-order batsman allegedly clashed with some of his fans

Pakistan’s middle-order batsman Umar Akmal is once again in the headlines for the wrong reasons, after he was allegedly involved in a clash with some of his fans.

According to sources, Akmal, who lives in phase 5 of Lahore’s Defence Housing Authority (DHA), had a heated altercation with four individuals, who claimed that they were fans of the Pakistani cricketer, after they came to his residence for an autograph.

A British national, who was staying as a guest with Umar’s neighbours, had insisted on meeting Akmal after learning that the latter lives nearby.

Sources close to Akmal claim that these people, who are also Umar’s neighbours, attacked the cricketer and threatened to kill him instead of taking an autograph. A First Information Report (FIR) was also filed with the local police, in this regard, with the four individuals being arrested.

Meanwhile, the other party claims that they had no ill intensions and they only went to Akmal’s place as fans. However, upon arrival they were abused and beaten up by Umar and his domestic staff.

If I was the CS then yes I would. Umar Akmal for me is a better player than Babar in all 3 formats, the only difference is that Umar Akmal had an idiot like Waqar Younis managing him from the start of his career and Babar had Mickey Arthur.

If Umar Akmal had Mickey Arthur as his coach at the beginning of his career then Akmal would’ve been our regular number 3-4 batsman.

Just because players have failed in that position doesn't mean we should go back to another failure.

If the player is performing in the PSL and in both FC and List A tournaments then why shouldn’t we go back to him? Especially a player who is as experienced as Umar Akmal?

If players like Faheem Ashraf and Azam Khan are good enough to get into the team then so is Umar Akmal.

Don't know what that is, but nobody is hankering for Pandya in the Indian team. Even he seems disinterested outside the IPL.

Also, he didn’t spot/match fix, his crime was failing to report an approach by an agent. If Mohammad Nawaz who committed the same crime can get into the team then why not Umar Akmal?

The greatest coach of all time couldn’t have helped Umar because despite his insane talent, he is an Akmal. His shining example was his older brother Kamran, the worst player to consistently play for us, in the history of Pakistan cricket. (Please name me a worse player). The guy averaged in the low 20’s for HUNDREDS of matches and constantly dropped catches.. not to mention the blatant cheating in the Sydney test.

Umar faked a back injury to support his brother. He was never going to succeed. He should be banned from all cricket related activities.
