[VIDEO] "My name is Umar Akmal and I made a mistake which caused damaged to my cricket and career"

Give Umar Akmal the chance to bat where he wants and he’ll prove me right.

If Waqar Younis was coaching the team when Babar came into the team then Babar wouldn’t be where he is right now.

If the player is performing in the PSL and in both FC and List A tournaments then why shouldn’t we go back to him? Especially a player who is as experienced as Umar Akmal?

If players like Faheem Ashraf and Azam Khan are good enough to get into the team then so is Umar Akmal.

Where does umar akmal want to bat ?

Pakistan’s batsman Umar Akmal made his return to club cricket after receiving permission from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

The 31-year-old managed just five runs before being dismissed.

The right-handed batsman revealed that he was looking to the future.

“I want to move forward now. I will try to give my best performances in domestic cricket now that I have been granted permission to play again. Being selected in the side depends on the selectors. My job is to perform well,” Akmal said.

“I am grateful to the PCB for giving me the permission to play cricket. My entire focus is now on playing cricket. I will try to let go of the past and look forward to the future. I have been working on my fitness throughout the testing ordeal. I am completely fit and will be looking to improve my match fitness as well,” he added.

Back in Central Punjab side for the domestic season

“I’m really happy to be back in domestic cricket. I will try to perform to the best of my ability and hopefully make a comeback in the national side"

This is not on at all. If he was really serious about improving himself first step should have been to improve his fitness and he had ample time to atleast show some improvement.

Sad fall from grace. He looked like a million dollars in 2009 but is now a lost cause. There is no way Ramiz will let him play for Pakistan again and in any case it was clear that the PCB wanted to move on from him. Feel sorry for him, i think his weight gain might have a lot to do with his epilepsy medicines as well.

His fitness is appalling. The one thing he had was good fitness and good fielder.

US League signing? I think he would be good addition there. Might as well make some money now.

He's been told by the PCB he will not play for Pakistan again

Less pressure and semi professional/casual nature of games are going to play in his favor. As long he stays away from more controversies, seems like a good direction for him.

Is he planning to get US Citizenship and play for US team ? Just like sami aslam . Pretty sure he must be knowing that he wont select pakistan any more.

Pakistan cricket is poorer without him, let us hope that he’s opening a fine dining restaurant in the US.

This is not on at all. If he was really serious about improving himself first step should have been to improve his fitness and he had ample time to atleast show some improvement.

Maybe he has genuine mental health issues which lead to weight gain. Lets show some compassion.

By the time they get US citizenship, they will be at retirement age. Might find them working at some gas station. I hope it turns out good for them. UA had no future Pakistan cricket. Sami was impatient made a hasty call.

Travelling to US is fine but why SSSS mark on boarding pass?

Is it usual for Pak nationals to go through extra check at US airport?

Umar traveling to USA suggests he plans to move there. He knows his Cricket career is over.

He is in the SF Bay Area, playing in the league I once played in. How the mighty have fallen.

Maybe he can qualify for the US. US wonderboy Jaskaran Malhotra also plays in the local league here.

Theres a video doing the rounds on social media apparently of him getting out to a first ball duck on his c grade debut, i hope for his sake its not true, he willl be on the first plane back.

Relax he is only human, whether its C grade or D grade. Anybody can get out to anybody on a first ball duck. Its just his first game.

He is destined to be a box office hack in the US league cricket.

I remember one time a female cricketer bowled him out, his career has taken a huge nosedive.

How is the cricket scene in US? I live in Netherlands and i only see desi guys in cricket club over here. Locals here don't even know cricket exists. If US builds a team full of desi people then what is the point? ICC should help and promote teams like Japan/Nepal atleast they have local players.

As someone who used to once enjoy watching him bat, how does one read this?

Should I have empathy towards a man who is now trying to eke out a living for his family using the only skill he has?

OR, do I just see him as a cricketing celebrity who is still struggling to accept reality?

It's always been difficult to judge UA, on one side you have a gullible un-educated youth from the outskirts who made it big but never had the smarts and on the other is this player who is so full of himself despite multiple self induced setbacks.

Not sure if its him but this is the video we are seeing on social media

He is human yes of course, is he a cricketer any more , highly doubt so. You still have people calling for this guy to be included in our t20 squad on these forums.

Highly doubt he will be anywhere near box office in the USA, they are starting to put together a professional setup, characters like UA will be left behind.

cant tell for sure but the fielders do look very much pumped up.

thats him for sure, wait for his next video with boarding passes back to Pakistan 😅

There was no return for Intl. career for Pakistan, so it made sense for him to play some domestic cricket and T20 cricket in USA.

Pakistan's wicketkeeper-batsman Umar Akmal is currently plying his trade for the California Zalmi in the latest edition of the Premier C league. The right-hander was unable to secure a deal with the top domestic teams in Pakistan and has moved to the United States of America to play league cricket.

While the right-hander has completed his suspension for violating the Pakistan Cricket Board's (PCB) anti-corruption code, he has not featured in the country's premier domestic competitions. H also failed to make the cut for the ongoing National T20 Cup.

According to a report , Akmal's family members have confirmed that he has departed for the USA in search of better prospects. However, they clarified that older brother Kamran Akmal did not have a say in Umar's decision.

One of Akmal's family members claimed that the cricketer had received unfair treatment from the Pakistani board. The family member pointed out how several players have got the backing to make a comeback despite their bans and said:

"There are a few others who were banned with bigger charges but given unprecedented support to make a comeback. The system was never fair to Umar. There were blatant compromises made to select a few players with poor fitness but the benchmark was made tighter for him [Umar] to make sure keep him out."

Earlier this year, the 31-year-old had apologized for not reporting spot-fixing approaches ahead of the Pakistan Super League (2020). In a video shared by the PCB, the cricketer admitted to having made a mistake and asked for forgiveness from the board as well as fans.

You will find his 1 innings of 0 runs in it

Mark my words, he is going to be unwanted over there as well. His work ethic and desire is just terrible.

The strange thing is, this guy is still better than several of the guys being picked by Pakistan. If only he had maintained discipline.

What could have been.

Not anymore. The guy has been extremely ordinary for the last 5-6 years. Eventually the PCB lost patience with him and moved on. He didn't help himself by not looking after himself. Same story as Amir. Organizations will only put up with your tantrums and controversy if you actually are capable of winning matches.

UA is a pampered pooch and his inability to adapt and grow up cost him a career. A Leicester staff member once told a friend of mine how he wanted a cook and a cleaner for his stint at Leicester

Not true he scored 2 hundreds in the domestic first class finals when he last played but was never selected in the test team thank Misbah for that and averaged over 50 in List A during this period.

Now it seems his fitness and form both need working on best way to play first class cricket again either first or 2nd xi then PSL by improving his form.

Of course age is not on his side now in the last 5 years during his prime he never got a look in as a top order batsman in tests and ODIs which is disappointing as he would’ve done better than most we’ve selected.

He career was mismanaged not helped by discipline problems but he should’ve been promoted early on in ODIs as a top order batsman and been a mainstay in the test team which helps develop a batsman properly.

2 hundreds mean squat. Fawad Alam was topping domestic charts for years and he never got a consistent run. Fawad Alam has the right to scream injustice than UA.

Of course they don’t what else is required to make it into a mediocre batting line up in tests Fawad and Umar should have been the replacements for Younis and Misbah with Azhar as an opener Shafiq could’ve played at no 6 then been dropped for Babar in time.

That’s him. Got out first ball to a second change bowler. This league is not that high quality, it is weekend warriors playing recreationally. Like I said, I played in it for many years and I’m an average cricketer.

There’s a picture of him after the game with the teams, he is at least 60-70 lbs overweight. Sad end to gifted cricketer.

It is 90% Desi, 5% Caribbean and the rest is UK, Aussie, NZ, SA etc. local US talent is unheard of, only takes the shape of second generation Desis. The US may one day field a competitive side if enough Sami aslams and umar Akmals emigrate here, but I’m not hopeful of cricket taking hold at the grassroots.

Soccer only started to take hold after USA 94 when millions of Americans saw soccer in their country. I don’t think cricket will have that moment here anytime soon.
