It is estimated that a child goes missing in India every eight minutes. Many are trafficked as part of a nationwide trade which is separating children from their families.

Millions end up in forced labour, domestic slavery and sex work, in what’s become a lucrative industry.

But despite this, it rarely dominates headlines, there’s little public outrage, or political will to end it.

The BBC's Rajini Vaidyanathan investigates India's child trafficking networks, and speaks to some of the victims.

Producer/Director: Imogen Anderson, Nick Sturdee. Camera: Sanjay Ganguly, Varun Nayar.

Heartbreaking to watch, something clearly needs to be done.

Maybe some of our esteemed Indian friends should spend a few minuted looking at this video and worry less about Afridi.

This has been a huge issue. Unfortunately, no government has done anything in this regard.

Imagine the plight of parents who lose their kids. But no, we have so many other irrelevant issues to waste our energies on.

As a parent - this thought is sickening for me. It doesnt matter if India or Pakistan or any country.

True. Can't even imagine what will happen if God forbid, this ever happens to me.

Truly sickening state of affairs in India, imagine a kid missing every 8 minutes.

Thanks for opening this thread. Should open a few bigots' eyes.

Child kidnapping and subsequent trafficking is prevalent across India. It has been going on for decades, but no govt has taken strong measures to stop this.

The most heartbreaking thing is that there have been cases where the parents (who're in dire poverty) themselves let go off their kids to the trafficking mafia for money. Truly sickening.

Very true. Why should we take umbrage on what Afridi or anyone else says about us? Why can't we concentrate on our burning issues which are plenty?

So many issues in any society stem from extreme poverty and desparation. People in this state are willing to do anything to survive, even something sickening like this. Extremely sad.
