LAHORE: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) CEO Wasim Khan has admitted that the national team’s living conditions in England are less than ideal but also said that despite the luxury level being a little on the lower side, the touring party has had the basics covered. The norm is for touring national teams to be given stays at five-star hotels but due to the pandemic, the Pakistan team, over the first 14 days in England, was lodged at the hotel within their training base in Worcester. After the conclusion of their mandatory quarantine, they moved to Derby where they are again staying at a modest three-star hotel adjacent to the training ground, which has led to some moans and groans at the lost luxuries of previous tours.

The PCB CEO says he is aware of the situation but reminds the grumbling parties that this is best that could have been done, given the circumstances of the tour. “Not every ground has a five-star hotel. What we had to do was gauge whether our players were getting the basic necessities or not. In Worcester earlier and now Derby, all the basic amenities have been made available to the team. They even have indoor games to play,” Wasim said. “Of course, none of this is ideal but you also have to see that the situation we’re in is also less than ideal. When things are back to normal, the players will also be back in five-star hotels.”

Very cheap from the PCB.

Might as well put them in a hostel next time.

Guess this is the Naya PCB right? :))

It's the ECB which decides the playing conditions and where the bio secure containment will be, right? How is it PCB's fault? I am guessing smaller hotels are easier to secure?

The 5 star hotels will be located far from the stadium, these hotels are right next to the stadium

Needs must.

They had to stay in hotels attached to the grounds.

Either this or no tour.

I heard one guy whining about no TV's in the room and that the players had to watch TV in a communal area. I'm sure they can cope with this for a couple of weeks.

It's literally because of COVID. The luxury hotels are way too far from their respective stadium and thus wouldnt be safe. So they have to get a hotel nearby the stadium that will be within the bio secure bubble.

Windies also had/have same arrangements and we saw no one complaining, players have got all things required in there. Focus should be on it being safe wrt players' health, which it is, and that's all what matters right now. The bio secure bubble is important if we are to have any cricket and players knew all this before they'll signed up for this tour and whoever it is from the inside giving leaks about common TV & all that stuff should be dealt with strictly, that's what Wasim should take care of, he needs to stop explaining everything to these jaahil journos.

Most of these players never tasted luxury before getting into the Pakistan team and now they are too good to stay in 3 star hotels.

This is what happens when illiterate people make money.

Non issue. A person must be able to adapt. Better than being a homeless person struggling to find food and shelter

I can imagine this being difficult for the players, given the high expectations of being an international athlete and what they've must have gotten used to over the years.

That said, this is clearly because of the ongoing pandemic. Staying in a sub-standard hotel is a small price to pay at a time like this

These illiterate worked very hard to get where they're
It takes a special kind of a person to represent a country of 200 million people

So they deserve every bit of that luxury cause they worked hard and reached that level
So much arrogance in your post man

Such a shameful post. A man's worth is not recognized by the level of literacy.

I see that even a global pandemic hasn’t taught you to be less critical about trivial things and try to be a bit more upbeat. You are without doubt one of the most miserable and negative people I have ever come across!

I don’t believe the players are complaining. Have you seen any quotes? This is a non story. They have to be located in grounds where hotels are adjacent.

Asking you to be positive is clearly not going to work.

Situation is getting normal in UK and with Boris asking people to be back at work from August, Corona looks like thing of past. They are also planning spectators to be back for most sports in the upcoming months. France is already allowing spectators. I dont think players staying in a 5 star hotel not very far from stadium would be an issue.

Having said that, Travelodge is not that bad. I always had good experience with them, atleast in Europe. Just had one bad stay when I was in Las Vegas (70$/night) which was expected considering the price & location.

I would have thought that each player would have a smart phone and there would be Wifi in the hotel?

Gone are the days when you couldnt live without TV. Now its all about the internet...

Barring Babar and Shaheen they belong in hostels.

To think, Pakistan players are going through all this hassle. And then you have the ECB with their silly policies of players driving round in their own cars - and when one players breaches that and puts everyone’s lives at risk - they make sure everyone gets behind him and doesn’t leave him alone etc and he gets a minor fine.

Ridiculous.

I can see Wasim Khan has gives the reasons as well, but many posters might have missed it - let me remind it -

“Not every ground has a five-star hotel. What we had to do was gauge whether our players were getting the basic necessities or not. Why some people are desperate to play fool here?

Thanks for that. Problem is some mixing up politics with sports.

Well PCB will have known that this would be how it works.

I'm guessing it was all explained to the players before the tour and if some players weren't happy they could stay at home.

Problem is some players dont get that these are not easy times for all!
