I came across this recent YouTube video that brilliantly recaps Pakistan's 2017 Champions Trophy campaign. Since there is no joy in our 2025 edition, I might as well look at the past.

But looking at this episode, I have much more respect for Mickey Authur, Sarfaraz, and Hassan Ali. And I have just a little more hope that beating India on Sunday is possible.

New selectors = No consistency in selections.

Very hard to even think of repeat of this drama ever....same situation this time around. But the start to CT 2017 was even worse

Honestly, this will be a never ending thing in Pakistan cricket

They don't need to perform consistently. They should change their attitude and go into this game as the rightful underdogs with low expectations. Then just perform without pressure or fear and see what happens. Pakistan does not have the same quality as India in batting or bowling these days, but they do still have players who can hurt any team on the day. India won't take a win for granted, Pakistan should go there relishing the opportunity to give them a bloody nose.

There is no one capable of pulling a victory out of there.

2017 had Fakhar, Amir and Hassan Ali was going through a purple patch.

Forget the batting, I don’t think there is one decent batsman in the team. Salman is in good form, but we bring him out so late, the damage usually is so bad that he won’t be able to salvage it.

The bowling - Naseem seems to be bowling better. Shaheen too inconsistent, Rauf isn’t fully fit, the spinners are just filler bowlers.

2017 CT was a dream tournament ffor Pakistan. They were down and out. They came out of nowhere and won it all.

They defeated red hot England (Eoin Morgan's dominant England) and crushed India in the final.

It was similar to Argentina's 2022 World Cup win.

Unfortunately, the unpredictability is getting less and less frequent, pakistan has been very predictable in last few years.

The unpredictability came from special talents and a positive mindset. That doesn’t not exist anymore. This team is so stale. Use by date expired long time ago.
