Sunil Gavaskar, during the commentary of the 4th Test between Australia and India:

"I'll tell you one thing. With that narrow victory over Pakistan, if something similar had happened — if South Africa had had a narrow victory against India, with Pakistan still having a chance to qualify for the World Test Championship final — more than half of Pakistan would have been screaming 'conspiracy'. They would say India lost deliberately to deny Pakistan. But India doesn't think that, and they don't think that."

He’s stated a fact.
That matches 99% in Pakistan’s hands and no country in the world could lose from such a position even if they tried.

Pakistan deliberately dropped that match to deny Bharat the opportunity

Pakistan is new choker. They outdid South Africa. Even if sa were 9 down on 100 , Pakistan has the tendency to lose it . Mostly Pakistan players are mentally short.

Read the Op. He doens't said Pakistan lost on purpose but if it was india in place of pakistan than Pakistan fans would have crying about conspiracy theories just like 2019 World cup when india lost to England.

In psychology people often think something and wont say it as it is as they know it will sound stupid, so they try to frame it in other ways that had it been us...

The fact he thought of this thing, he has doubts that pakistan may have lost on purpose.

Love it, we first kicked india out of the test chap, and than india lost to Australia. All they have left now to cry about is jaisawal out not being turned in their favor
 
Bhudda Gavaskar pak are on a 17-0 losing test streak in Australia & SA this series is going to be 0-2. If history says it’s one sided why would anyone hope pak to win.
 
Gavaskar has lost the plot making comments like this when his team is getting a phainta in test match.

It is standard Indian tactic. When things aren't going your way then randomly mention Pakistan in a negative way and make their dumb members of the public happy.

Good on Sunny ji for giving back the same way...even though I disagree with him Pakistan has not lost deliberately...they are simply a poor test side in SENA countries.
 
Not sure what the need for this remark was. But he's right though .. Pakistan is the conspiracy capital of the world.

Whats ironic is that while he is saying Pakistan wouldve cried, currently whole India is crying and on a total melt down on the Jaiswal decision. Joshila even wants the GOI to get involved.

So quite ironic.
 
Ind has their own issues to solve.They have holes in performance like not having solid top order batting and not enough bowlers to help out Bumrah.But Pak has a whole decade worth of repairing before they play final.Crying over one team play bad to make other life miserable doesn't make sense when they both need to go back to track

When India lost to England in 2019 WC a thread on PP said Dhoni intentionally lost.

So what sunny Gavaskar isn't far from the truth.

The issue is, they named the current series after him. So a guy of his stature making such statements really insults the creadibility of the trophy.

its like in north america, having a famous trophy name after someone and than years later finding out the guy was a racist or a bigot, and you have to again rename the trophy.

He should had been careful with his comments.

If anyone needed a reminder how quickly Gavaskar is losing his marbles, this is it.

Sad. I thought he would to be above this. But seems he is no different from alot of other Indian ex-cricketers who love to stay relevant by drumming up every Indian's favorite topic: Pakistan.

Whenever things are going bad you can be sure that one thing will bring every Indian together.

I thought India was a cricketing powerhouse that didn't need to bring up a mediocre cricketing nation like Pakistan? But then again, maybe that's just something certain Indians want to tell themselves to sleep easy at night.

I don't deny Pakistan is a land of conspiracy theory but who told India to get whitewashed at home to NZ or play so poorly vs AUS after the Perth Test ? Or keep playing washed up superstar batsmen ?

You virtually control the ICC, your TV revenues dwarfs that of every other board combined, entire tournaments are rejigged to account for your whims and fancies, yet can only muster 1 ICC tournament win in 10 years.

With all those inbuilt advantages, to be relying on bankrupt Pakistan to lend a hand is slightly embarrassing.

He thinks we have stable Captains like in India. Dhoni could afford to do stuff like that in the World Cup because he wasn't worried about his place.

Shan Masood on the other hand is hanging on to Captaincy by a thread with his poor record. Also most of these guys are constantly on blast by Pakistani fans and media. Why would people like Abbas, Khurram, Jamal drop a game for India when they are barely regulars in the team. At least the conspiracy should make sense.

I don’t think Sunny Gavaskar is suggesting that India deserves to be in the WTC finals. Nor do I believe that many Indian fans think we are currently good enough as a side. However, what Sunny seems to be pointing out is that if Pakistan were in a similar situation, they would likely attribute it to a conspiracy. As you mentioned, Pakistan is often associated with conspiracy theories, and during the 2019 World Cup, many Pakistani fans accused India of intentionally losing to England (the eventual champions).

In that context, I think Sunny Gavaskar has a valid point. Even now, there are comments about Bumrah’s bowling action or claims that the BCCI’s influence silences criticism. The surprise for some might be that this perspective is coming from someone like Gavaskar. However, what he said is entirely reasonable.
