The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has completed its inquiry into “Pakistan’s most expensive wedding”, Geo News reported on Friday.

According to insiders, the FBR is investigating how much was actually spent on the wedding for tax purposes.

Sources said a sum of Rs150 million (Rs15 crore) alone was spent on booking a private country club for a period of 120 days (about 4 months) by the bride's father.

They said the FBR was also investigating a sum of Rs15-20 million (Rs1.5-2 crores) given to the event management company which made the arrangements, and a similar amount paid for decorations at the wedding.

The sources also shared that Rs10 million was spent on fireworks, while Rs9.5 million was spent on photography and a studio.

They added that the FBR was also investigating a sum of Rs15 million paid to a popular singer who performed at the event.

If the money is earned honestly then why is it anyone else’s business how the money is spent? It certainly shouldn’t be the business of the state. Also the tax generated from such expenditure helps the government run the country.

I know people will argue “why not spend less and give money to charity” - well we could all live by that motto. Why not buy a cheaper car/house/phone/jacket/computer etc and give the rest to charity?

And this maybe officially most expensive but in relative terms its no big deal, Malik riaz relatives wedding are most expensive in pak history i think and even they are no match to some big weddings in India, so it's not ideal situation but if they have the money the will find a way to show case it, and there ua no better chance then these weddings.

This was one corner of Ambani's property when his kids got married. No one raised a finger then because ambani owns the government.

Its not something i would do or recommend with so much poverty but as long as thay pay their taxes, they can do what they like

Lets hope the money spent on the wedding helped the local economy.

I'm all for it if it helps local businesses

Agree To say its sickening and disgraceful as the OP has is extreme

Yes in a poor country such displays should be discouraged but like youve said as long as its legitimate money they can do as they please with it

Imagine if the marriage doesn't work out lol

I have an inkling that the money isn't legit or at the very least both parties haven't paid their due taxes on income. That is why the FBR is looking into it.

Thats why i wouldnt do it or recommend it , but its their money and if they dont have the morals then there isnt much that can be said or done

It’s their money and they can do whatever they want with it. It’s not like some of us need that new OLED tv or upgrade our car or take that vacation, we could always donate that money, can’t we?

Charity is voluntary not mandatory.

Anyways these kind of weddings do help small businesses as someone said above and who are we to judge, if it’s do number ka paisa let authorities take action.

Not sure if disgraceful but definitely a wastage of money. LOL. Imagine doing all that and then having a divorce.

But, their money. They can do whatever.

I personally never want to have such a lavish party even if I were a billionaire. Simplicity is a beautiful thing.

Which marriage has been made an issue in India? We even made the series Made In heaven showing the issues

I am sure you don’t indulge by buying fancy clothes, electronics or good dinners and donate all the money to the poor as a pious religious man.

I am not talking about the negligible minority like you but the rest of us common folk regardless of religion.

Let’s be honest, this set is quite mesmerising. But I’ve seen snapchats of fairly well off friends in Pakistan and they are holding their weddings in these types of sets all the time, I can’t see how this is what the best money can buy.

Surely the money has been spent on other things...affording Rahat Fateh Ali and Atif Ali for a wedding is legit serious.

I have my weaknesses, in fact many. May Allah forgive tme and create a love for people that makes me give more. These guys could have had a great wedding without this nonsense but flaunting wealth is an article of faith for them.

The set is fantastic. Yes it's probably too extravagant for most, but that money will trickle down to the local economy so better that money is spent rather than hoarded.

Their money and their wish. Its not public money that was spent on the venue.

Buying an IPhone is also disgraceful waste of money when you see a poor family living near drainage and drinking water from there.

Tbh I have been to weddings with similar sets so I don’t think that is the main money driver here. I’m assuming some big performer was invited.

If there is a "Law of the Land" in place to address such a matter, then THAT'S what we should go by. It's perhaps not about how the money was earned. It's about whether the law was broken, no?

who's wedding was it? I am interested to know. Crazy and massive hall/park. My wedding was 1/1000th of this and i considered it big and waste of money. Weddings should be simple.

But folks aren’t just making legal judgements here, they are making moral and religious judgements.

Seems like a massive business, which is good for them. They do earn quite some money, providing tiles and ceramic finishings throughout the region. Now I hope FBR do complete their investigation and see if the Director paid the taxes for the income bracket he is in.

Do you have a link for the video?

Our culture has a lot of bad aspects but one of the absolute worst parts of it is these types of weddings.

People are free to do as they wish as long as the money has been earned lawfully, has been declared for income tax purposes and all taxes owing have been paid. If yes, then the taxpayer is free to blow the money in dance bars, mujras, strip clubs and no one else's business on what he does with his hard earned money.

That said have seen way too many extravagant weddings ending up with disastrous consequences ie deaths, accidents, divorces, nazr. Personally I think spending very modestly, lightly is the right way to go and best to save up, utilize the money for life, expenses after marriage. Me and my wife plan to have just one final ceremony where we will combine the shaadi, mehndi, ruksati together and not have more than 20-25 very close immediate family members from both sides at best

Some famous singer from Turkey and performance group from France

But folks aren’t just making legal judgements here, they are making moral and religious judgements.

I guess it’s a debatable notion then.

Just like that person had the liberty to waste that much on a wedding then folks also have the right to voice their opinion.

In a country of 200 million people, not everyone is going to jump on the band wagon and sign hymns and praises for him.
