[VIDEO] Ramiz Raja’s commentary, post-match presentations, and analysis

What really made me cringe this time was the interview with Sunil Narine after LQ's brilliant win against KK.

Instead of asking him relevant questions he asked him utter garbage questions and then to top it off, he said thanks man in what was supposed to be a West Indian accent - as expected Narine was not impressed.

Is it just me but I find every single one of his commentary and presentation stints to be all cringy. Any broadcaster signing him up needs to come with the mute ramiz option :narine

He seems high and over the top. Feels like Chris Gayle of commentating. One of the worst and least prepared commentators who has some weird delusion of him being very good at his job when he is clearly not.
 
The post-match presentations always start with that confused look as if he is wondering what is going on and what he is supposed to do.
 
My fav today was when he was calling Quetta Gladiators "Qalandars":))) how can you be consistently inconsistent?:afridi :slater
 
Slater, Fleming and Bazid have carried the commentary team.

Slater, in particular, is a great addition. He has the charisma but also the insight, I hope he returns for future PSLs


I really miss Ian Bishop as well, I'm guessing he would be here if it wasn't for the WC Qualifiers. Best commentator in the world imo

Funny how Slater sounds okay everywhere except Channel 9 where he gets neutered by the rest and starts verbally worshipping "Davey" Warner and co.

yeah I think as you say he falls into the crowd. Its like a mob mentality because a lot of them are quite decent pundits in other contexts. Mark Taylor is also pretty decent
 
Using big words doesn't make a good commentator. Half the time the big words he uses are not even in the correct context.

Rameez becomes even cringier when talking in his mother language where he doesn't have to use a mental thesaurus and fancies himself quite the witty entertainer.
 
Peshawar Zalmi were the first champions of the PSL.

This was what he said today and he has made this same mistake 4 or 5 times.He has said this in different contexts.

You might call him whatever you want, but truth is truth.

This is basically a very sad situation for Pakistani commentary in general because this guy Rameez is absolutely clueless in the com box. Moreover he has made Zero efforts with regards to gathering information about some of the domestic players of Pakistan. He doesnt deserve his job due to his lack of desire to improve.

Rameez is way way better than the joker Harsha Bhogle we have. Atleast Ramiz is entertaining even if in a wrong way. This Bhogle guy just wants to show his proficiency in English , ready made pathetic jokes etc. He would talk to noted former international cricketers as if though they are his buddies. Total joker

Knowing 30 words of English and using them in any order is not the definition of a good commentator.

You also need to make sense when talking.

No actually i didnt say he is a good commentator. I said that currently he is the best from Pakistan when it comes to speaking english. I dont think anybody can dispute that.

However, he is clueless in the com box and doesnt deserve his job because he isnt improving at all. Good english speaker doesn't necessarily mean a good commentator.

Harsha bhogle wipes the floor with Rameez. At least he remembers players names and knows a thing or two about domestic players.

Too harsh on Harsha.

He is one of my favourite commentators.

Commentating is about entertaining the viewers as well, never a dull moment with him.

Also, Ramiz is alright, we don't have any other big names.
 
For some it seems that if you can speak a bit of English then you are a good commentator.
 
With all the hate we give him, it was nice to see him give that impassioned speech about cricket coming back to Pakistan during the match.

He really looked emotional during the segment and honestly looked like he was on the verge of crying.

I know many people don’t like him but he’s the only real commentator we have so it was heartwarming to see him get emotional.
 
Whether people like him or not, the fact is that he is the voice of Pakistan cricket, and the only relevant commentator that we have at the international level.

On a side note, it is interesting how he simply cannot get Babar's family name right.

Yeah it’s weird he even fumbled Babars name during his speech.

He commentary and insight was pathetic as he thought that Karachi had a great chance even though they were struggling when there were 6,7 overs to go :s
 
I like Ramiz Raja but dislike Harsha Bhogle.

Funny how the opinion is inverted on the other side of the border.

Corrected. bhogle tries hard to portray himself as a cricket expert, but if often reduced to sucking up to the the commentators who have actually played cricket at a high level. Not even fit to the tie Ramiz Raja's shoelaces.
 
Ramiz isn't the best commentator out there but neither is he the worst. People seriously need to stop exaggerating and thinking of him as the worst thing to happen to Pakistan cricket. He's a decent commentator who is often forgetful but obviously has knowledge of the game.

He doesn't follow any domestic cricket (besides PSL) in Pakistan. Whenever he's asked by overseas commentators what have you seen or make of a young player x, y or z you can easily tell he's making up rubbish. For e.g. what do you make of ramiz raja jr? - "oh he must be good because he has the same name as me". If you're going to try tongue in cheek at least answer the question.

Also he makes mistakes every game with names and some of these are very embarrasing and it leads to becoming high unprofessional - for instance calling Ashley Nurse; Ashley Giles and Moeen Ali; Moin Khan.

He has energy and was a good commentator in the 90s upto early 00s but he is past his sell by date. It is now like listening to a dementia patient who seems lost in every commentary stint that you hear.

Actually it is the complete opposite! Harsha Bhogla is in touch with the modern game and far more knowledgeable.

Funnily enough he happens to know more about non-PSL domestic cricket in Pakistan than Ramiz and that is saying something when you consider one is an ex-pakistani player and the other is an Indian who has never played professional cricket. For e.g. When Haris Sohail was younger and touted as the future of Pakistan's next gen batting talent following consistent returns from domestic cricket year after year (as you can see from his FC average), Harsha made the suggestion that he should given a chance to play for Pakistan and guess what Ramiz's response was "WHO!" and if you see my post above this isn't the only example it happens in every tournament or series when he's asked by a non-Pakistnai commentator.

Do you really want a commentator like that over Harsha? Yes he hasn't played cricket at a high level, so his technological knowledge might be at less desired level but you can't dispute that he is up to date with world cricket.

Bazid khan is way better than raja when it comes to technicality and insight knowledge of first class emerging players. You could argue he is a bit monotonous but quite knowledgable when it comes to pakistan domestic structure. Ramiz on the other hand has regressed when it comes to techinical competency. Its about time he hangs his boots. Yes it is irritating when you continuously keep getting the names wrong and act cool about it.

Can't believe people would prefer Bazid Khan over him? Bazid Khan sounds beyond boring and would put anyone to sleep.

Bazid has improved a lot.Ramiz's voice may be better but Bazid trumps him in every other aspect of commentary.

True, saw that bit yesterday live. He spoke in Urdu, was chocking and emotional...looked genuine for me.

Could feel his pain in his voice ..

He tries very hard to portray himself as an unbiased guy. During such venture , he would try to act knowledgeable in front of his co-commentators. Haris Sohail could be the one about which he read any article then. He might then pass of it as his opinion because Ramiz was his co-commentator. Ramiz might not know everyone or might not be knowledgeable , but he is genuine in his mistakes or antics. Harsha Bhogle is quintessential plastic guy. He knows Pak fans' are watching and wants to impress them. So he would talk about Pak players. Manjrekar is another one. Kohli is someone who i think is the same.
 
I don't care if a commentator makes mistakes but you should learn from them and not repeat them.

This guy puts no effort at all in preparing for his commentary stints and he does not bother with learning about the players. Its that lack of effort that I despise and he should not be commentating...

I think this is more about them trying to be nice and make peace between the two countries.

But atleast Harsha and Sanjay try, with Ramiz it at times looks like he just turned up without any preperation.

And don’t worry we’ve seen ramiz a lot he also tries to impress foreign fans with by using big words, that I’m convinced he doesn’t know the meaning of:yk

Impassioned? It was awful. He couldn't even speak properly. In fact it was nothing short of pathetic.
 
He can be annoying at times as he never does his homework. He just commentate on what he slightly remembers from past.
But he is probably the only «international material» we have. Bazid will soon overtale him. His little show down with crowd yesterday seemed very emotional and good. He might have faked it but you really need cricket back to Pakistan, amazing to think about that we are in 21st century but can’t play at home regularly.
 
I think he is getting old and I have noticed he forgets how to complete the sentence and in the end says something really out of context to complete the sentence.

PSL organizers should really think about replacing him.

Yes the speech probably wasn’t very good and he was stumbling over every word but it was definitely passionate.

You could tell that what he was saying was coming from the heart.
 
it was so weird that Ramiz was predicting that Karachi will win against Peshawar in the last stages when it was obvious Karachi will lose :facepalm: And he never acknowledged that how bad he was :facepalm: Was it deliberate that he was mocking Karachi?

I disagree. It was a rambling disorganised mess. The guy could not even get his words out, none of it was prepared, none of it made any sense and what he said was not interesting, informative or of any use to the viewers.

That was actually a LOL moment of all time.

But I think that fielding innings by West Indies in general was just pure banter. I want this Williams guy to play so much more, these legends only appear once in a blue moon. He's in the category of Monty, Kaneria, Ramesh Pawar, Sreesanth, Umar Akmal

I suppose in a dull series like this, at least you can get some entertainment from his antics.
