PakPassion's Saj and @MenInG review the performances of all teams in the ICC World Cup 2023 and conclude that whilst India would be gutted at not winning the tournament, it was Australia who proved yet again their immense and unsatiable desire to be the winners.

It was not just about playing cricket to win a final, it was the mind game! and Australians already know how to handle pressure at crunch moments better than any other team.

Australia in this WC is how Pakistan thinks it plays.

Definitely not favorites going into it, but slowly built momentum.

That Afghanistan and South Africa KO game allowed them to face true pressure and by the final they were numb to it.

India on the other hand, was smoking every team up to the final and weren’t truly tested up to that point, so when they faced real final game nerves, they bottled it.

IMO this is their greatest WC victory in terms of story. Not a cakewalk like 2003, 2007, or 2015.

ATG Cricketing Nation Australia. Every team needs to model and learn from them.

They are living proof attitude and how you approach the game triumphs Talent

Let's not forget the NZ game, Afghanistan game, SA Semi Final. When you look back, they were thoroughly tested throughout the tournament and were battle hardened by the time they got to the final. They never played their best cricket in a single game and they were atleast 1-2 spinners short in India but they made the most of what they had.

Every one of those players who won the World Cup could hold their own in any first class tournament.

That says it all.

Proper cricketers, players who are mentally tough, cricketers who can cope with pressure, cricketers who don't succumb to pressure, players who have game-awareness and cricketers who are technically equipped to cope with tough situations and tough pitches.

Australia are big match team. They still are not the obvious best in the odi world. But they have that killer instinct and never give up attitude that makes them champion in most tournaments than not.
Australia thoroughly deserved the World Cup and that showed in their performances after the initial rough patch.

Australia winning in India versus the already crowned champions their greatest achievement.

Even the Goats crumbled in '96 at Lahore

Australia's strategy is always to peak at the business end of the tournament. This campaign reminds of 1999, where they started slowly and then they built a unstoppable momentum.

Their success lies with the set up in their battle hardened domestic where below the state level there's ultra competitive levels of Grade cricket where you have competition that's fierce and on the edge.

This system produces quality cricketers who are not just ready for domestic level but fit in to international cricket with ease.

And it's because of all this they thrive under pressure and basically cooked india

Just a great cricket nation. A great system and attitude. I wish we could learn from them but alas we aren't a learning nation and just run on emotions.
Our people are busy on social media claiming Babar is still the best and the only Captain. The difference between the attitude is so big, there is a reason they won the WC 6 times.

Good video Saj.

Aussies are mental monsters, they go out and play without fear.

The innings by Head with 3 down , taking it to the Indian bowlers at their home, was one of the best you'll ever see!

Congratulations to Australia.

Babar and others can learn a lot from Cummins captaincy.

Particularly going into games with lots of plans, brave decisions and clear thinking.

This from Ricky Ponting says it all:

Ricky Ponting "Australia don't just turn up to compete in tournaments, they turn up to win tournaments"

Australia is only 25 million population. If you consider the numerous sports they are great at for such a small population, its hard to argue against Australia being the greatest nation in sports today.

They play sports from a young age, its part of their culture as kids. The more you compete, the more you will be mentally stronger. They shouldnt have kept the Ashes but again their mental power was immense.

@MIG I rewatched this last night, sorry didnt realise it was you. Nice to see you and may you stay well bro, appreciate your work on here.

Maybe you guys can have a live phone in sometime? I'd call in.

Excellent review overall. Afghanistan beating Pak and England could be a game changer for them. They wont be a minnow anymore imo.

Winning mentality, focus is to play hard and win.

Team first, then individual performances.

None of this loser mentality that has crept into Pakistan cricket.

For sure, it also reminded me of what Kane Williamson said in his presser when he got out on 95 while trying to slog.

The reporter asked him why he played such a reckless shot when he was on 95. And Kane said, "because it was time to step on the gas and the team comes first."

That's the type of leadership that is required.

This Australian team managed to carry a batting line with 3 players past their sell by date in Warner, Smith and labu. They did as a team though peak at right time and get better as competition went on.

The games vs Pakistan, Afghanistan gave them steely determination they need going into knock out games.

Once in the semi finals, they were left with 3 perennial chokers in ICC tournaments, so no shock they won once they were in the final 4

To be fair to Labu, he did his job and held his nerve well in the final. Useless for most of the high-scoring tournament, but that final is what he was picked for and he didn't choke like the other 2 (Smith was unlucky but choked a review).

Yeah labu may have done a job I'm final but all 3 players I mentioned were past their peak, Aussies collectively crossed the line.

Head and maxwell essential being the catalyst in the team which ultimately got Aussies going

I remember one of my cricket coaches at school saying to me, it's the winning that matters, not the taking part.

This is the mentality that the Aussie players and teams have from a young age and it's built into them, whatever the sport, whatever age group they are.

Sadly we have very few players these days with this kind of mindset.

After losing the first 2 games and being at the bottom of the table, the mighty Aussies made a comeback and won the Cup. A winning mentality has been infused in them since they were children. Not every day we see such a rise from the dust. Truly a deserving side to win.

It's also easy when there is no pressure to win back home. Nobody seem to care in Australia about anything except rugby.

Australians love their sport and are huge followers of cricket.

They have a great and long history in cricket and keep producing outstanding players.

Yes they do but you know how crazy sub continent fans can get when it's about their country. The pressure can't be compared in all honesty. It's a far more laid back culture in Australia.

I would love to see Aussies cope with immense pressure that sub continent fans have to deal with. Effigies get burnt, players get pelted etc.

In saying that, there is no doubt india just can't seem to handle the pressure of a ko in finals now rather the semis. Atleaat they made it one step further this time I suppose.

There was even rumours of 2 deaths due to the loss in the world cup. Such insanity is only possible in the sub continent.

We can almost be impressed with their winning mentality..

But how can we emulate it? We can't at the moment..the aussies have a great stable sporting system in place..which is well funded. We have a bunch of boomers who just want to get rich. We will never emulate this mentality.

So the question must be how to win inspite of the problems.

Even India is failing to emulate it with all the resources and power in hand. :inti

Stability.
Professionalism at all levels including Board.
Strong domestic system.
Proper structure from schools to international.

As a nation Aussies are very competitive in sports. It’s in their blood
In India, it may take years of catching up (I am not talking of players capability) I am talking of never say die attitude.

Add to that brilliant tactics and lifting up the game when it matters. Indian team is too process oriented and you often hear them saying "we are treating final as just another game" whereas for Australia it's the only game in the tournament that matters and so it wasn't just another game. The way David Warner fielded in the first over and thereafter, he hasn't fielded like that in 8 years.

Australia are simply awesome in ICC tournaments.
