The younger brother of Pakistan U19 star Arafat Minhas, Sameer Minhas, has stepped out of the shadows with a brilliant century against Malaysia in the U19 Asia Cup 2025. K

Known as a promising bowling all-rounder (right-hand bat, leg-break), Sameer has already impressed in Pakistan’s youth circuit with a batting average of nearly 59 in the National U19 Cup. Representing Multan Region U19 and Southern Punjab U16, he’s now proving his worth on the international stage alongside his brother.

Mammoth knock of 177 off 148 balls today.. Not out.

WHat a start this has been for youngster...

Player of the match:

Sameer Minhas (177 not out, 148b, 11x4s, 8x6s)

Brilliant knock on his youth odi debut, if I am not wrong, this is his debut game.

I didn't iike the cautious approach Pak openers are taking since the last U19 Worldcup. They clearly are talented enough to start the innings with blazing guns or at least after 2 overs.

Pakistan’s young cricketers across U19, Emerging and domestic pathways are really starting to show their class

Now, it genuinely feels like a strong new talent pool is taking shape, and the future looks bright for us.

Good to see that he was able to clear the boundaries later on in his Innings.

Yep we are definitely getting batting talent from the U19 since last 4 years.

After one bad match vs India, Sameer today contributed 44 off 63 as Pakistan posted a 242-run target for UAE u19 to win in the ongoing match

Sameer Minhas scored an unbeaten 69 off 57 balls in the second semifinal of the Under-19 Asia Cup 2025 against Bangladesh.

Kid sure looks like a proper talent. It's not just the runs either, it's how quickly he is scoring them. You almost never see that combo from our U19 batters.

And if he has umar akmal level talent he can be an awesome batter.
A teenager umar smashed nz bowlers in their home den in a test match
Umar had nothing to lose and nz grounds were small.

The moment he had to take responsibility he faltered.

No player should be like umar

yet another 50 for this guy that tto in the final... 50 off just 29 balls..

Brilliant knock so far...

Very talented kid. But talent alone can’t take you anywhere as we saw with Umer Akmal, Babar and many other Pakistani batsmen in recent years. He needs to work hard and prove to be a fast learner.

I liked that he also played off side shots. Otherwise, all we are getting these days is leg side hacks -- Sahibzada Farhan, Khushdil Shah, etc. They are pathetic.

It's about time PCB started inducting young guys into the national team.

He needs to be in the "system" and be given chances in ODIs - let him develop there, because he has the right ingredients and shot selection.

By the team our players make it to the international matches, they are far too old!

His stroke making abililty is inredible for this level. Sixes on the up against pace and those sweep shots vs spin. Pakistan has a gem here.

He is now the top scorer in India-Pakistan clashes at the U19 level... Shazaib was the previous owner.

Plays all over the wicket, genuine stroke player, both front foot and back foot game strong and thus ease with both pace and spin (rarity among PK batsmen), definitely one for the future as batsman alone (hoping he continues evolving) while his elder brother Arafat Minhas would definitely fit in as all rounder as well (Nawaz kind of role).

He is good for subcontinent and English condition.
He cant handle bounce and seam though

Even if true, that makes him automatically better than most of our bats like Sahibzada Farhan, Khushdil Shah.

And it's good enough for modern day cricket specially ICC tournaments, where you mostly get batting wickets.

Plus, you have not seen him play properly vs. bounce and proper seam (anyone would struggle against it). And he is young, so can drastically improve against that too.

Peshawar Zalmi and Babar eagerly licking their lips to use their wildcard on the next youngster

Not impressed with his innings to be honest, he looked hit and a miss type player and not even Umar Akmal and Ahmed Shehzad level talent.

But somehow you’re impressed with Ubaid Shah and regard him to be superior to Harmison.

What an incredible Innings played all round the wicket and also knows how to sweep against the spinners.

Looked really good. I wish we could take a player like this and really train them properly.

One for the future. Ofcourse teams will analyze his weanesses and all. But good head on his shoulders.

needs to work on the short ball.

He has a nice bat flow into the shots. He can pull off Dewal brevis if he repeats what he did here in the world cup. Brevis made 506 in 2022 world cup beating Dhawan's 505 in 200. He can easily break that record

But he will be under even more pressure and teams will target his wicket and let's see how he goes on in the world cup.

So, I watched every ball of his innings. Alhamdullillah for the performance and MashAllah he’s a talent. The thing that really stood out for me was his fearless approach.

His allround game also makes a great potential future no.4-5 for the national team.

*However:

He’s clearly a genuine U19 who needs to develop physically. And as he fills out, he’ll have to evolve his batting alongside that. As a comparison, someone like Suryavanshi, despite being younger, has a man’s frame already, thus could theoretically play more senior cricket. Sameer may struggle against senior attacks, thus has to be developed in domestic cricket and via the Shaheens route.

He’s a fabulous talent and inshAllah I hope that the PCB don’t butcher his development.

Has anyone else noticed the striking similarity between the playing styles of Sameer Minhas and Ajinkya Rahane? It's fascinating to see how Sameer uses his wrist and executes those punches on the off-side, reminiscent of Rahane's technique.

Their approach to these shots is so similar that it's almost like watching a mirror image in action.

His shot selection was on another level.
He's got courage and got almost all the shots in the book and can play pace and spin equally well and has got nerves of steel, he only needs to work on his timing and short pitch stuff to become an International level player because he already got a test match level temperament.

Not a single faulty or high risk shot in that 172 inning.

Still v young but talented player. Will improve with time.

Yeah I think he needs to work on the short pitch stuff.

Ubaid Shah and Steve Harmison comparison please.

Guys please steer away from personal jibes, some repetitively do so and derail every other thread. Thanks
