[VIDEO] Sameer Minhas: Pakistan's rising all-rounder

I just watched the U19 final highlights and that was some hundred. Some brutal hitting. I hope to see him in the PSL and for his sake I hope he won't follow the footsteps of Babar/Misbah.

He'll probably follow Arafat for now after all he's the senior lead. :inti
 
Alhamdullillah, seems like one of those lads who, if you don’t get him early, you are getting him LATE.
 
Sameer minhas should be developed properly. He plays proper cricketing shots.
He has got talent to succeed in international cricket provided he works hard and pcb helps him in every possible.
 
He seems to be hungry for runs- too often our guys think about staying in the team and are satisfied with 30s and 40s.
 
Sameer Minhas is one of those players who grows on you the more you watch him. He’s not loud, not flashy, and not constantly in the headlines but there’s a lot to like about his game.

With the bat, he looks mature beyond his age. He knows how to value his wicket, plays proper cricket shots, and doesn’t feel the need to force things. What stands out is his game awareness, he understands when to rotate strike and when to take on the bowling. In a setup where many young batters go hard too early, that calm approach is refreshing.

His bowling adds another important layer. He’s not just filling in overs for the sake of it; he bowls with purpose and discipline. He hits decent areas, mixes things up, and can break partnerships when needed. That kind of reliability is what teams look for in a genuine all-rounder.

Mentally, Sameer comes across as grounded. He doesn’t look rushed, doesn’t get carried away by one good innings, and seems happy doing the team job. That temperament is often the difference between players who dominate domestically and those who actually make it at international level.

Pakistan cricket has a habit of either overhyping youngsters or discarding them too quickly. Sameer Minhas shouldn’t fall into either trap. If he’s allowed to develop naturally through domestic cricket and is given clear roles, he could become a very useful middle order all-rounder for Pakistan in the future.

He’s still early in his journey, but the signs are promising and sometimes, that quiet consistency is exactly what Pakistan cricket needs.

Like all young player, He needs opportunity on good wickets and patience. We have only one decent player this century and he has also fallen away. Let's hope this young man is one of many

I also read about his bowling but i havent seen his bowling at all as a matter of fact he never bowled in asia cup nor in these matches
 
Very good player. Hs good technique as well, but it will get better with time if he works hard and PCB does not ruin his career.

He has a habit of scoring big hundreds which is a positive sign

And more importantly he score those hundreds at a rapid strike rate , last U19 batch had Azan and Shahzaib who were also capable of scoring big hundreds but they used to took a lot of time in doing so.

Yeah... His strike rate has been impressive as well... He is not like them... He likes to score runs and that too at rapid pace...

Yes, he hasn't faced quality bowling line-ups for this level too so far. Bangladesh had one decent pacer, but they got bowled out for a low total so he didn't have much to play with.
 
He has been impressive but needs to keep being hungry and scoring runs, and keep improving his games, yes he will be tested when he goes up against better bowling attacks. He needs to be backed he will have failures but needs to be backed fully 100 percent he is a special talent, but I repeat PCB needs to back him fully.
 
PSL would also be a good rest for him to see how he plays at good bowling.
 
56 off 49 for Sameer Minhas. Another decent innings from him as PakU19 face off AfgU19 in match 5 of the ODI tri-series
 
He was batting fine against Zimbabwe U19 inthe 6th game of tri series...

But gone now for 48 off 58 balls.

I like to troll Indian fans to get a good chuckle out of the whole thing, but the fact remains Sameer has faced mediocre bowling attacks only (yes, including India's). I would like to see him play with the same freedom against Australia, South Africa and England before passing any judgment on him.

Suryavanshi has played international level bowlers at least and scored against them, so he is still above Sameer by every metric.

Exactly, we need Sameer to develop at his own pace rather than foisting a whole nation’s hopes on the kid.

Even though he's not the most flamboyant or powerful batter. He still has the physical and mental skill to consistently give big performances.

Man, I didn’t realise that you were at the hospital in Multan in 04, w/ mithaii for the Arafat family on Sameer’s birth.

It’s unlikely he’s 21, as Multan folk are much more robust by that age. You just need to look at his older brother Arafat to know that Sameer still has to physically develop.

You can have your own opinions on this . It's an estimate, on my part.

You can make all kinds of reasons like Pashtun genes/Multan robustness etc.

But the reality likely is, apart from maybe Haroon Arshad , none of these guys are their stated ages
 
hes such an easy stroke maker, saw the higlights on twitter, and barely a shot in anger till he got to 60 odd, also had a really nice paddle reverse flick past first slip against the spinners. dude is a real talent, but the PCB dont destroy him like they do all youngsters. multan should pick him up, could be their marquee player for a long time.
 
Sameer Minhas reflects on journey, sets sights on U19 World Cup glory

Sameer Minhas’ cricketing journey began not on established cricket grounds but on the tiled floor of his home. With water sprinkled on tiles to generate pace and swing and taped tennis balls doubling up as match balls, Sameer and his elder brother Arafat Minhas spent countless hours playing improvised games.

That humble beginning, Sameer says, was shaped by his father – the first and biggest influence in his life.

A cricketer himself whose own playing ambitions were cut short, he encouraged both his sons to pursue the game.

“My father saw how much we enjoyed cricket and asked us to try the leather ball,” Sameer recalls. “My brother started first and then I followed. That moment changed everything.”

From street cricket to structured pathways, Sameer’s progress was steady as he went on to represent the Multan Region at U13 level in the 2018-19 season before captaining South Punjab U13, leading his side to the final.

The right-handed batter then represented Southern Punjab at U16 level, featuring in the PCB National U16 One-Day Tournament 2020-21. “That’s where I played alongside my brother for the first time,” Sameer says. Consistent performances earned him selection in the PCB’s 100-player programme.

Transitioning into U19 cricket was not without its challenges. His first season yielded modest returns, but in last year’s National U19 Cup, Sameer amassed over 400 runs from seven outings, performances that eventually earned him a Pakistan U19 cap.

“It has been a good journey,” Sameer reflects. “I started from the grassroots and focused on techniques and basics. I enjoyed every part of it.”

The influence of his brother Arafat Minhas, who has represented Pakistan in four T20Is, remains central to Sameer’s motivation. Watching his brother train, compete and enjoy the game reinforced his belief.

“Representing Pakistan is not easy,” Sameer admits. “It takes a lot of hard work and expectations are always high.”

Those expectations intensified during the ACC Men’s U19 Asia Cup, where Sameer rose to the occasion on the biggest stage. His match-winning century in the final helped Pakistan defeat arch-rivals India by 191 runs in Dubai.

Reflecting on his record-breaking hundred in Zimbabwe during the recently concluded tri-series, Sameer recalled, “I just wanted to contribute to the team. I played normally, went slowly at first and focused on finding gaps. After half-century, I thought if I accelerate a bit, it could become a hundred.

“When I saw the PCB post about a new record, it was an incredible feeling. Representing Pakistan and making a mark like that is something special.”

Beyond individual milestones, Sameer consistently points to team unity as Pakistan U19’s biggest strength.

Months of camps, training sessions and shared experiences have forged a strong bond within the squad, a factor he believes proved decisive in both the Asia Cup and tri-series success.

“Our bonding is very strong,” he says. “That unity helped us win titles.”

As Pakistan U19 turn their focus to the ICC Men’s U19 World Cup, Sameer’s goals are clear.
“Our simple plan is to win the World Cup,” he states. “Personally, my first goal is to win it for Pakistan. The second is to become player of the tournament.”

On his preparation for matches, the Multan batter revisits his own highlights to reinforce positive memories. He draws inspiration from former South Africa batter AB de Villiers, whom he admires for his fearless approach.

Thanking fans for their continued support, Sameer urged them to keep backing the team, expressing confidence that Pakistan U19 will perform strongly in the forthcoming mega event.
