Role reversal - junior player dismissing a senior player, but look at the difference in send off compared to Shahid Afridi's of Saif Badar the other night.

Smart kid. You don't want someone like Afridi to be against you, especially at such an early stage of your career.

This kid will be a superstar one day. Bowled a great spell at the end today. Looks like an intelligent bowler.

Shahid Afridi has become such a coward (or smarter?), not coming out to bat unless it's in the last couple of balls and then taking himself off once Fakhar gives him phainty. Now that Fakhar is out expect him to come back and try his luck against the newly arrived batsman at the crease.

So youngsters can't celebrate the wicket but seniors can? Is this new PCB policy?

Meant it for the match thread, but still applies.

I wouldnt call afridi a senior That innings typifies his career An absolute abysmal and irresponsible shot and innings

Tbh I understand why he refused to celebrate; I mean Afridi is a tailender.

Lala again sacrifices his wicket for greater cause. He gave that wicket to youngsta beauty to give him confidence.

:sa

What are you on about, its natural for a youngster to show respect like that, Shahid Afridi was prob his childhood hero. And if your trying to attack Afridi, yes fair enough didnt look too nice what he did to Badar but he apologised

Shaheen Afridi and his clan probably started cricket because of Shahid Afridi

It won't be a stretch to say that Shahid Afridi popularised cricket among the Pathans and made them a mainstream part of the sport.

Just see KPK representation in cricket before and after Afridi. And quite a few afghani players have explicitly stated that they started cricket because of shahid Afridi. Jarrod Kimber even wrote an article on that

What does PCB have to do with this? It was Shaheen's decision not to celebrate the wicket, probably because he grew up as a fan of Afridi.

Read the original post I quoted, it was regarding PCB policy. PCB is the start and end of it all as it is the governing body of Pakistan cricket. They have no professionalism and just encourage this kind of senior behaviour. Whether Shaheen decided to not celebrate because Shahid is his hero is up for debate but he certainly did not want to get a reaction that Badar got.

Agreed, Afridi has huge following among Pathans all over the world not just in Pakistan. Shaheen would have been fan of Afridi, plus that’s such a big name for his clan, his city and country, respecting him is not a surprise.

Good gesture by young Afridi, one Afridi passing button to another one!!

Shahid Afridi is to a generation of Pakistani fans what Sachin is to most Indians. Great respect shown by young Sheheen he wanted to celebrate but realized it was his childhood hero and seeing him out used to break his heart back in the day. What a great moment.

Boi is sharp

Wonder what all this paparazzi for a mediocre player like Shahid Afridi. These young kids treating him like a Demi-God is totally annoying!

Whats wrong in one youngster showing respect to another? :)
I think Shaheen has a good head on his shoulders because you dont wanna upset the Shahid Afridi tola. However i dont agree with his reasoning that he was showing respect to Shahid. He didnt show the same respect to another senior in Shoaib Malik and he probably wont show the same respect to greater players than Shahid like Sangakara etc. He should have been honest and said its because he is a fan of Shahid.

I think it is just a sign of respect from a guy who grew up watching Afridi all his life. Nothing wrong with that.

As for Shaheen, I wasn't enthralled by him in the u19s, as its just a group of kids playing BUT in this tournament, against really good, really experienced players, he has shone. He isnt quite there yet and with all the bowling line up for Pak, he doesnt need to be either. Keep him playing domestic, keep him in the coaching academy system, help him to develop, get stronger and faster and he can debut in 2 or 3 seasons time.

Blind slog. You connect some and miss some,
Afridi missed and Shaheen hits.

Shaheen has superstar written all over him.

He's obviously a huge fan of Afridi and idolised him growing up, for many pathans he's their biggest hero for cricket and non-cricket reasons. Never mind how Afridi has been the country's biggest star throughout 2000's so it's all understandable really, don't expect him to relate to others cricketers in the same way or be as big a fan for obvious reasons but I doubt he doesn't respect their accomplishments or careers.
