No Gilchrist? No Lara! Really?

WK Batsman Gilchrist >>>> any other WK batsman in the entire history of cricket.

This is a very batting heavy team. Ponting can bat at #3 and instead of Dravid, another fast bowling all-rounder can be easily accommodated.

Thank god he did not put his name. On a serious note I would have Wasim in there.

I would never have Muthiah Murli in any list. The biggest abuser of the game. Should be banished.

I'm guessing these are only players he played against in their prime.

yeah I too think this list is only best of the players he played with/against. Otherwise, putting Cook ahead of SunnyG is blasphemy.

Murali has no business being in any all time top lists.

Gilchrist revolutionized keeping, but would have to say that Sanga was at least on par with him as a batsman, and if you go by stats, and imo, he was miles better, probably one of the best batsmen in the modern era, up there with Lara and Tendulkar.

Gilly was a great player, but Sanga is certainly a more than adequate option in a world XI ahead of Gilly. Both are acceptable choices.

Doesn't say if it is best ever or ones he played against. If the latter then Wasim and Lara for starters would walk in to any great side. As good as they were there is no need for both Warne and Murli to be in the same side. Kallis is not for me either when you can have Lara. Poor squad in general.

Lol, this is hysterical, the Pakistani cricketers and also Pakistani public would name ganguly up there with Tendulkar as their fave Indian batsmen as ganguly reminds us of Javed miandad quite a bit but ganguly has shunned the Pakistanis, that's his response.

Not really - Dada is trying to win a ticket from BJP, so he needs to show some attitude for image building. Any Indian player, playing almost entire 90s, picking Cook over Anwer is just biased & not telling the truth. Besides, if this a squad for players he has played against (or players that had performed against him/his teams), Saqline comes ahead of Murali as spinner - be in Test or ODI.

Anyway, it's his team & his choice - he has every right to pick 11 players & drop even Lara, Wasim.

Not a bad team with a bit of tinkering

Cook
Haydos
Ponting (c)
Dravid
Sachin
Kallis
Sanga (wk)
Warne
Steyn
McGrath
Murali

The second new ball certainly won't be a problem :))

great players but not a great all time XI

Matthew Hayden
Alastair Cook
Rahul Dravid
Sachin Tendulkar
Jacques Kallis
Kumar Sangakkara
Ricky Ponting
Glenn McGrath
Dale Steyn
Shane Warne
Muttiah Muralitharan

A completely unbalanced XI 3 players Sanga Ponting n Dravid all are no.3 and are out of position here and an All time XI should be strategically and complete and tactically which is lacking here

Shoaib Akhtar used to hit him for fun and he has mentioned a few times that Akram was one of the better bowlers he has faced; so not to include one of them or both is strange. I tell you his selection is more from his mind than heart

How can this lineup be complete without the MAN, the MYTH, the LEGEND....

Ajit Agarkar, the guy who's phenomenal stats made him a part of ICC All stars and helped Ganguly take outstanding victories... can't just oust him with someone like Steyn in his place

Ganguly the analyst started out well but is now a BCCI puppet and someone who seems out of touch with reality. Cook in an all-time XI? Dravid, Sanga and Ponting in the same team so two of them bat completely out of position? On top of that he has Kallis as his all-rounder who makes this team even more imbalanced.

You are only allowed to pick 11 legal cricketers naughty! :murali

Selection criteria must be post 2000s only and hence considering that, its an excellent list. Not to forget, there is no country bias.

Smith instead of Cook would have been nicer.Gilly should have been there. Versatality is lacking no doubt.

In which Universe is that?

Most Pakistanis do not like Ganguly at all and his recent anti-Pak stance has a lot to do with that and as bad as Miandad's behavior might seem, he was 2 times the player Ganguly ever was!

Lack of Lara is bit strange but understandable as he didn't do well against India.. Pakistan vs India also didn't happen as much as it should have.
