[VIDEO] Stump mic picks Indian players referring to South African captain Temba Bevuma as a dwarf

Would be nice if we get a video clip. I don't challenge it, I just missed it.

Bona b ha ye, the exact wording not even happens in street cricket now a days

This is in the realm of Political Correctness. Cannot be treated like Racism.

Doesnt look good though

Not a good behaviour from Pant even if Bavuma doesn't understand it. Insult and sledges should be related to his game play only and not appearance.

Shouldn't have called bauna, short would have been the appropriate word. Can't disrespect.

I genuinely don’t get Indians. They are a disliked team and bunch of players. Oppositions hardly sledge them or disrespect them knowing the broader implications of losing IPL contracts

It would have been funny if Sachin said it.
Tony Grieg called Sachin a midget in 1992 and it raised eye brows. You can say this is in poor taste due to choice of words. But I can say bavumas height has been mocked by fans commies in different ways. Anytime he stands next to Jansen lol

Word choice is important. Bauna and midget is inappropriate in modern inclusive societies.

Would appreciate thoughts of @Local.Dada he was commenting on education level of Amir Jamal in another thread

May be. But end goal was not to mock Bavuma. That was to make a call on DRS. He could have said short using some other word.

I don't think it's that big of an issue..

Reflects poorly on the players to be caught using this kind of language, but there is nothing here for the ICC to be involved in

It has to be punished otherwise it will see a wrong precedence. This is gentlemen’s game.

Bauna does sound a bit toxic. Words like Chotta or Tingu should be preferred.

It doesn't seem like there was malicious intent. It was an off-handed remark about him, but not directed at him.

You must have missed the Eng-India test series in the summer. Duckett and Brooks were a double act behind the stumps.

Wouldn’t have happened in the era of Sachin, Ganguly, Dravid, Laxman, Kumble, Srinath etc

These current players are chhapri, coming mostly from mediocre poor families with low value systems.
How do you know about their family being poor or mediocre?

Strict policy for every player should be to never to speak about another opposition player's looks, including height. But it's funny listening to the opinions of some Pakistani posters, specially for us Indian posters who were here back here from 2006 till around 2010, if you know what I mean. The word midget was openly allowed here back then, even complained about.

The mental gymnastics these people will go through now to justify this will be hilarious.

Watch this space for some entertainment everyone :maqsood

Who is justifying what? For once in your life reply to what people are actually saying instead of jumping in with your pre existing agenda

How is racism same as mocking someone's height? Both are bad, but surely racism is way worse.
In modern world using language like bona is going beyond mocking height and moving into realm of ableist slurs and mocking a physical disability.

It may be different in India, just like Kala by Sarfraz wasn't trying to be racially derogatory, but the international players in these countries should behave better and use appropriate words in keeping with modern norms.

You should be condemning the words and abuses by indian players but as usual Indian are trying to defelect the whole point...

What do you mean by mediocre poor families?

The fact that they came from poor families just goes on to show that they had more character and fight than the ones born with a silver spoon.

You are questioning their ethics and insulting their families in the same sentence.

Thats elitist mentality.

Ah, the super cheap thrills tingling 🤣, Calling someone who is short a midget is racist?

Inappropriate-yes.

dont approve of such jibes and needs to be fined. However,How is it the same as using racist tropes on an entire culture like a jaahil.

Maybe not seeing the difference is not limited to illiterate Pak cricketers alone.

Hope you got some answers you were looking for 👍

Should be treated as sledging with 20% match fine. It’s just the equivalent of someone using a curse word in frustration. Not appropriate but it is what it is. Also don’t think Bavuma is super touchy about this. Total non-issue

Sarfaraz Ahmed was penalized for his "kala" remarks - calling Bavuma a dwarf is no worse, in my opinion
Social experiment- go to a crowded place with black people and call a short black guy/ gal a “dwarf”

Go to a crowded place with some black people and call someone the “N” word

You will understand they are not the same.

Totally agree but indian player's Cross the line here as well. This should be also condemned. :kp
India and Indians are touchy about religion, South Africans touchy about race.

As long as not in this category, it’s just boys being boys. I am sure a lot more is said outside the stump mic that is way worse. This is a non-issue.

This Indian cricket establishment has no class or honor. Undeserved arrogance and pride. The racist undertones are too repulsive & disgusting.

Most important factor is intent

When Sarfaraz used the kaala word - he clearly said it in mocking tone

Here Bumrah did not mean any offence. He just wanted to say the guy is short so DRS should be taken

There is nice Trevor Noah video on this subject. That racism is often about context or intent.

Very village boys like behaviour from the Indian players and i hope they get some penalty for using a derogatory term for an opponent player behind his back. I am surprised they were laughing at it.

Bauna Bavuma. Has a ring to it.

The terminology was used in context of the lbw decision. The BC at the end is common desi slang.

Best establishment is the one that runs away with trophy lol

The PCB incompetent comedic establishment. The Indian cricket establishment are shallow and compensating for something, hence the racist and other vile antics they routinely employ.

I wonder how much crap actually some of these players get away with outside the stump mic/cameras lol.

Also unfortunately this is probably the least offensive thing Bavuma must have heard on the playing field or in his career. Bumrah needs to apologize and we all can move on. Also should get a match fine. Non-issue really but wrong on Bumrah. Also a lot of kids look up to him so should stay away from such bullying language 👍

What’s racist about calling a short man dwarf. Inappropriate- yes, racist- no.

If he really called a dwarf a dwarf then it might be offensive as it is a medical condition technically.

An apology and a fine and case closed, I think you guys are looking into something that’s not there here.

The term bauna was definitely avoidable. Did Pant / Bumrah know it could be construed as inappropriate?

It is funny though how MF BC MC Chu.. Fkoff … recall Afridi-Gambhir spat, Abhishek-Rauf, McGrath-Sarwan, and so many such examples and all such terms are deemed just fine because that’s showing aggression even if personal, while we happily take exception at many other terms. We do live in a very hypocritical world!
