[VIDEO] Stump mic picks Indian players referring to South African captain Temba Bevuma as a dwarf

What’s racist about calling a short man dwarf. Inappropriate- yes, racist- no.

If he really called a dwarf a dwarf then it might be offensive as it is a medical condition technically.

An apology and a fine and case closed, I think you guys are looking into something that’s not there here.
When you want o build a negative narrative atleast they should some research before doing that lol

Wonder what is politically corrwct way to say short height

May be use the sanskrit term " vamana "

Sounds a lot more classy I guess

ps : buana is corrupted form of vamana

Can’t really comment on this as someone who has mocked Sachin for his height.

Still think of those massive hockey pads that made him look even more smaller lol.

Since i am not familiar with this word i can't say the intensity. THings could get lost in translation. I understand pakistan troll media try to blow it out of proportion out of desperation. Bavuma's height has been discussed by many commentators themselve anytime he stands next to jansen. He cannot run away. Tendulkar's height was also mocked by many. Tom Moody i think said something along the lines.

Buana is used very commonly to refer to short people. Pretty sure Sachin himself has heard it often
He has and they don’t really like it, it’s not referred to short people its referred to dwarfs, which is not the same as short people.

Liliput is a dwarf/bauna , Sachin isnt, would he had heard it , yes.

If that is the only word you know what will they say? lol In my language there is only one word. If you use that you can interpret as offensive if you want

Very village boys like behaviour from the Indian players and i hope they get some penalty for using a derogatory term for an opponent player behind his back. I am surprised they were laughing at it.

Lmao he is a midget

So was sachin

Midgets

That’s what they are. Nothing wrong with this

Some people are not blessed with height.

Some people are fat

Some people are anorexic

Some people look like they are 50 even though their real age is much lower.

Normal. As long there was no racial under tone it’s fine.

You need to be chapri to win

Aussies are rowdy and bogans. That’s why they win. Fighting mentality comes from chpari people

Not soft players.

In this politically correct softie era can't even use words like mota patla khamba bona. What times!

Strict policy for every player should be to never to speak about another opposition player's looks, including height. But it's funny listening to the opinions of some Pakistani posters, specially for us Indian posters who were here back here from 2006 till around 2010, if you know what I mean. The word midget was openly allowed here back then, even complained about.
Hear the entire clip

One player was asking about the ball height when it hit bavuma another replied he is a midget think that too

Nothing offensive was meant, it’s only Pakistanis trying to create an issue where there is none

Pakistanis trying to create an issue where because India is involved nothing else

Fair point. Its just when the person who is calling names looks like this, one has to raise a question.

SA media so far has not paid attention to this yet. These guys are friends off the field. They will sort it out. It is funny we complain about choice of words when we fans use much much worse words.

And yes, he used praises for him after the word midget
Exactly my point, the words fly around without anyone having any problem, because "it's just guys being guys", but we have an issue with everything else! Not a single guy said a singe thing about the abuse he used, everyone focused on the "bauna" which in itself is avoidable but not as bad! Nobody has a problem with someone being called a "lambu" but "kaala" and "bauna" are very bad! We are all hypocrites as a society.

Bauna and kaala are insults based on immutable characteristics of humans, I would put them in a separate category to abuses

That's exactly my point, we take exception to weird things while not taking the insult on something family related, whatever the categories be.

There's a difference between identity insult and casual insult. The former usually involves a person's identity whether it's race, gender or other physical markers. Casual throwaway insults happen all the time that are not identity based. Those really aren't malicious.

I know what you are saying, but there is no rule to that - different people can take exception to different insults depending on the setting, culture, seriousness of tone, and who said it. Culture plays a big role in how you interpret things. When a black man uses the N word for another black man, it's totally fine but when a white man uses it, it becomes a racial slur.

A black man doesn't use the word as a racist slur against his fellow black man whereas historically the white man did. So context does matter.

I think we are are all intelligent enough to figure out when an insult is used in a deep-seated mean malicious way. In this case, nobody thinks Bumrah said it in a malicious way. He doesn't have a history of engaging in that kind of behaviour. Still, if that word has historically been used as a slur in India, it shouldn't be a norm in casual conversation. My two cents.

I genuinely don’t get Indians. They are a disliked team and bunch of players. Oppositions hardly sledge them or disrespect them knowing the broader implications of losing IPL contracts
Your opinion, your right but also possible that truth is a full 180 deg opposite.
Love the cope gravy -'loosing IPL contracts 'which gets applied to each and every situation....:)

The funniest bit is that those shedding crocodile tears have had no issues till date to use the word midget as an insult for a particular Indian ex cricketer. Even the mods back till around 2009 openly allowed Pakistani posters to use that word.

Inappropriate ❌ Body Shaming ✅

The way people are trying to justify and support this abusive language is pathetic... Yet funny to see the excuses they are coming up with....

The word Bauna is not a midget - that's an anglicized version. And I know you know that.

Bauna refers to dwarfs and in our culture (yours and mine) that is a term used to belittle or talk about someone who suffers from dwarfism and is generally considered inferior to all of us.

Just did a search and there are about a thousand references to midgets here on PP, with mostly Tendulkar on the receiving end. Even Gambhir hasn't been spared. Do the mods consider the term as a slur or .. ?

Many of these posts were often removed. People complain more rather than helping moderators by reporting such posts. In my experience, moderators have taken satisfactory action against poor quality posts like 90% of the times. 10% falling into overreaction on my part or difference in opinion.

You have to also understand, just like certain cricketers, a lot of our fellow posters also do not come from high moral value families and make mistakes. Such behaviour should be discouraged. Many posters improved over the years.

Worrying to see seemingly educated Indians defend this terminology and it's use in a professional setting.

I can make excuse for Bumrah, he probably isn't aware of the damage these types of words can cause, and his upbringing in a mediocre family as @Bhaijaan mentioned, gives him an excuse. He can learn and move on.

However, the defence of such terminology by western Indians is what saddens me more. Despite having access to high quality education they seem unwilling and incapable of leaving behind the mediocre Indian website.

If you think these words are acceptable, then go and call your boss or coworkers them on Monday and tell us how you fare.

Watch how India turn this around to make themselves the victims - yet again
So far other pak fans nobod is spreading this lol SA media is not even covering it as you expected. Bavuma has no time to translate what Bumrah said to Pant about DRS review and get offended like you guys. You are trying desperately to blow it up. SA team is not really falling for your desperate attempts. Tough luck next time.

Name calling and abusing is ok as long as as it’s directed at indians

These days some posters support terrorist activities against India and apparently thats fos

Just before the asia cup finals posters called gill and Abhishek trans gender but that’s apparently allowed

It's non issue.. bumrah genualy thought that'll hit the stumps bcs he's short, nothing demeaning..

And in the words of the great Asif Iqbal - there it is

Once again - the word used by India players is not for midget

It refers to the word dwarf

Absolutely, as it’s well deserved.

Dwarf is clinical term. Midget is a derogatory slur word to insult dwarfs and shorter people. You cannot directly translate word from another language without knowing the context. IN my regional language there is only one common word for short people which can also be interpreted as dwarf. But that is extremely common. No other word exists unless you create your own word by combining two other words.

Here comes the victim card!

Icc hasn’t bothered neither has sa media only ones jumping are Pakistanis online, i an only. Showing you the mirror
A popular SA cricket journalist just clarified and didn't have anything to say about it lol. This is no different than Babar fans sharing meaningless stats to put down other players.

Hey I don’t have an issue with what Bumrah said, just saying you lot deserve all the abuse you get.

:amir2
Remember what a certain Herchelle Gibbs said about you Pakistanis during a cricket match with was caught on air?

Yeah...you indians live in fairy land......I was not talking about his cricket ability.....
Even I wasn't speaking of his cricketing ability. Him doing a Master from the University of Birmingham is more believable than you doing the same.

It doesn’t matter - Bavuma gets the last laugh.

He didn’t look impressed with Bumrah’s attempted “apology” either.
