The T20 World Cup is full of enchanting storylines. None are quite as weird and wonderful as the cheeky feud between Zimbabwe and Pakistan – one which went to another level after Zimbabwe’s stunning one-run win over the Asian heavyweights in Perth on Thursday night.

It started a couple of days ago, when a Zimbabwean responded to a tweet from Pakistan’s cricket board, writing: “As Zimbabweans we wont forgive you … you once gave us that Fraud Pak Bean instead of Mr Bean Rowan. we will settle the matter tomorrow just pray the rains will save you.”

The issue dates back to 2016, when Pakistani comedian Asif Muhammad, known as Mr Pak Bean, performed a comedy routine in Harare impersonating British actor Rowan Atkinson’s iconic character Mr Bean.

The Zimbabwean, who uses the name Ngugi Chasura on Twitter, explained: “They gave us Pak Bean instead of Mr Bean on one of our local events called agriculture show”, adding: “We felt embarrassed in front of our families”.

Pak Bean was even given a police escort ahead of the event at the Harare International Conference Centre, which reportedly cost fans $10 apiece – but was a complete flop.

The drama quickly went viral, leading to the match between the two nations being described as the “Mr Bean Derby”.

In a stunning boilover, Zimbabwe beat the World Cup contenders by one run – and social media was abuzz with references to the country gaining revenge for the Mr Bean fraud.

Even Zimbabwe President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa got in on the act, tweeting: “Next time, send the real Mr Bean”

Mr President: Congratulations. Your team played really well today.

President of Zimbabwe
@edmnangagwa

We prefer to deal with real cricketing PM, not fake ones as well

Seems to be getting a lot of media coverage!

Wow I thought this was a harmless meme, it has gotten head of states involved :)))

Ind-Pak is no longer the only cricket rivalry mixed with politics :)

:)) it was hilarious which is why it didnt hurt losing to zimbabwe because it was just pure comedy.

The way he tweets to pcbs official twitter handle and than they even end up winning and than the president is tweeting :)))

And the pak bean was getting police protocol :)))

Loved it.

But the replies were even more funny. Some people apologised and said here why not take messi ( yasir shah)

What did Shahid Afridi say?

The hilarious viral meme was brought up on a show on TV where Shahid Afridi was a panelist. The host reminded Afridi that he had acted in an advertisement with the fake Mr Bean in Pakistan.

“Yes, yes I remember,” Afridi said with a smile. “He totally looks like him. I was completely confused (“Bilkul waise hi hai yaar. Mein toh confuse ho gaya Kasam sey!”) Afridi said.

And when the host explained the viral war and said that the Pakistani Mr Bean allegedly some shows in Zimbabwe as the real one, Afridi said with a smile, “If he has made money, then it’s his talent, hai na yaar!”

What was the ad with Afridi?

It’s an old ad where Afridi is at a venue where one of his international bats are being showcased. Enter Mr Bean, Pak version. In the inimitable style of the original, he sneezes and messes up Afridi’s signature from the original exhibit. He then pulls out a fake bat, gets Afridi’s signature, and replaces it in the exhibit when Afridi catches him.

Not sure I understood the whole outrage from the Zimbabweans. Did Pakistan officially send this guy claiming to be the real Bean wth :)))

If anyone needs to be blamed, it's the Zim organizers who conned their public by claiming to be bringing the real Bean.

This is one of the stupidest reasons for outrage I've ever come across.

thought it was great humour on both sets of fans part. from now on pak Zim ICC games will always have extra flavour.

throw back,

oh man loved this build up. Never gets old.
