Pakistan cricket hasn’t been short of controversies and has kept grabbing the headlines for some reason or the other. From getting involved in match-fixing and spot fixing scandals to getting linked with women, the reputation of cricket in the country has been marred with a number of unwanted incidents. Back in July, Imam-ul-Haq was greeted with brickbats and criticism.

A social media user leaked some of Imam’s WhatsApp chats. In the messages, Imam, also the nephew of the legendary Inzamam-ul-Haq, was seen chatting with multiple girls. The southpaw then had to tender an unconditional apology. Of late, another incident has come to the fore. Albeit there’s no authenticity of the development, it could turn into a massive scandal if found true.

Social Media platforms are a boon, but they are also double-edged swords and can be used against anyone. Tik Tok is one of the applications, which is popular, especially among the current generation. Videos, using various animations are made and then shared. Recently, a Tik Tok model by the name of Hareem Shah with over 77 thousand followers on Twitter, recorded one such video.

She claimed to have recorded a clip where a famous Pakistan cricketer exposed himself to her on a video call. Shockingly, she also revealed that he resorted to the act of masturbation in front of her. Not only that, but she also asked her followers if they wanted to see it.

She took to Twitter and wrote, “I was on video call with a famous Pakistani cricketer & he started masturbating. I recorded the video. Do you want to see it? The cricketer’s face is visible in the video.”

If player XYZ was given an option to bowl 2 no balls on certain deliveries in the Sydney test v Australia next month or have a video tape released exposing something (no pun intended) that could ruin his reputation totally - what would this player do ? And then once they enter that spiral of blackmail, it could lead to other things , do this or else we will release that video tape and also your phone call recording taking about spot fixing — it wouldn’t surprise me if players have been trapped into match fixing like this in the past.

Will the managers act as middlemen in personal exchanges with women as well? Because if not, this will continue to happen as players will still have stuff that is not control by managers.

What is needed is education about these topics.

Clearly, this education needs to be specific. I.e. dont expose yourself on camera as you dont know what people will do with your pictures or videos, even if you trust the person you are sending to, remember there are hackers out there who could blackmail you and ruin your life.

Common sense stuff needs to be communicated to these guys.
