When Dahani met Dhoni....

This interaction reminds of the scene from M.S Dhoni's movie when he and Yuvraj came face to face for the first time in a Bihar vs Punjab final match for U19s.
He implied that a day before practice the Bihar players were completely in awe of Yuvraj and he kind of knew then and there that the match is doomed for Bihar.
Yuvraj was already a big name in Ranji circuit scoring double and triple hundreds for fun.
He came to practice on his dashing Bike with Goggles and Expensive Headset etc.. and Bihar players, except MS Dhoni were just awestruck.

Yuvraj scored 358 not out in the match.

Phir Aata hai Yuvraj Singh.

I am pretty sure, if it was reverse, Dhoni an upcoming player and Dhani a legend of the game, interaction would have been very different.
Not to say what Dhani did was wrong or it would have any impact on tommorow's match. T20 is pretty fast paced and 2 over spell or 3-4 sixes from someone can make the difference.

This was before the team for U19 WC was to be announced, which India won and Yuvi paji was man of the series. Dhoni implied he did not get to bat in second innings. He score 84 in first innings.

As a said earlier if Dhoni and Dahani came face to face then it's just courtesy to acknowledge someone but an international player fawning over an opponent lacks ghairat.

I've heard Vaughan be a little critical of Ravi Bopara for being crazy about Sachin cuz he said it might affect his performance. But I'm not sure I agree. The opposite also holds true. It's extra motivation to show off and impress your idol.

I've heard Flintoff say this about playing Sachin. Kane Williamson's first tour of India vs Sachin. The Afghan keeper who played the helicopter shot in front of Dhoni. The history of cricket in other countries too might be replete with such anecdotes.

If it were a Pakistani legend, I doubt you'd have felt the same way. For example, have you seen Mitchell Johnson and Brett Lee fangirling over Wasim Akram when he was there as a commentator?

@Bewal_Express All that said, I agree with the principle, just not this particular occasion.

I've sometimes cringed, even as an Indian fan when some Pakistani players try to be too friendly with Indians. And on the other side, I haven't enjoyed some of Kohli's antics especially being a clown after losing a final to your traditional and biggest (emotionally) rival.

As far as my knowledge of geography and history goes , Jamaican are lucky not to have a neighboring country with sole moto of destroying his home country . Is Dhoni not a captain in Indian army ( not full time , or honorary ) no wonder he gave a very cold shoulder to the embarrassing and naive kid ( behaved like one ) Dahani.

He didn't give a cold shoulder. Dhoni waved at him and said a few words, but since the camera angle was behind Dhoni's back, we have no way of gauging his facial reaction.

To be honest, Dahani hasn't played for Pakistan I think and I'm not sure Dhoni would have known who he was. It's the same like an IPL player like Chetan Sakariya waved at Wasim as he passed by, I'm not sure Wasim or Waqar would recognise who Sakariya was since he is largely an IPL player like Dahani is a PSL player. So that's about the same reaction you would have got from Dhoni who was in a conversation with someone, even if there was a random young Indian player in place of Dahani.

Am sure a young Manoj Prabhakar would have fawned over meeting with Imran Khan. It's nothing but awe and respect towards someone who has achieved so much.

Have you ever gone to any Indian forum , at all level, they say such bad and below the belt things about Pakistan all the time. I don;t recommend to do the same but no reason to kiss their-------ss, for no reason, show some dignity FGS.

I have to says, Kohli does think before he speaks and I have never heard anything lose from his mouth.

Bro, this is probably the only forum where level headed fans of both sides participate. On any other Facebook page of either India or Pakistan, there is pure hate for each other.

As a said earlier if Dhoni and Dahani came face to face then it's just courtesy to acknowledge someone but an international player fawning over an opponent lacks ghairat.

I partially agree with your argument from a sports pov. In competitive sport, sports psychology is often a huge factor which we can tend to underestimate. In almost all the grandslam matches, particularly the finals, when Nadal and Djokovic are standing side by side to enter the court before playing an ultra competitive final, you can almost sense a feeling of coldness between the two and the two would hardly glance at each other, even if they might be decent friends off the court. I think we should be friendly with the opponents, but being too chummy with them before the match can end up being a weakness due to complacency.

Kohli said to his players that he would rip into them if he ever saw someone smile to an England player on the final day of the recent Lords test when England got bowled out under 60 overs. It was not because you hate your opponents a people, but the extra competitive edge matters a lot and you can always be friendly after the match. Even Kohli used to be always chummy with Pak players, gifting Amir a bat and things like that, but after the CT final defeat, I've seen a change in his approach.

That said, I don't think why Dahani gets the hate given neither he or Dhoni is going to play the match. If your argument is from a political pov, then I don't agree. Dahani also waved at Pandya as he was walking by and Pandya and him had a few words and then Pandya waved him goodbye before leaving. It's in the same video. Such an interaction was heartwarming to see.

Besides, why the hate for Dahani given he's going to be on the bench, while Imad Wasim and Nawaz went out of their way to talk to Jadeja, particularly Nawaz who I remember saying Jadeja was his role model.

there is already a video on youtube where dhoni spoke with dhani and gavr him advise, told you earlier that you are making a big fuss out of nothing. Now i dont know about the rules of posting vids here so just youtube the topic dhoni advises dhani

Put it this way: if Dahani has a successful 15 year career with 10 of those leading Pakistan to a World Cup Win (50, 20, CT) and the Test #1, an upcoming Indian player would do the same thing with him in the year 2036.

You read it here first!

There is no such video evidence. The same one video which is in Post #1 is what is being used and people making up the conversation.

All we know is that Dahani as per that video in Post #1, saw Dhoni walking by and called out to him.

No other details are known - all is conjecture.

Dhoni advising Dahani is definitely Dhoni PR agency at work.

But Dhoni did say a few words to him from distance from the videos I've seen.

same footage from dif angle, you could see dhoni say something to him, also h pandeya had a mini convo as he strolled by. Now obv dhoni is not gonna give him bowling tips to fine tune etc, he must have known the kid very likely wont be playing, so something along the lines of "lagay raho, keep up the efforts"...

and surely tomorrow or day after something will surface.

I am sure more will surface but for now - we dont know what was said - although am sure, everyone was very polite.

Nothing wrong with what Dahani said...
but..
....I'm a big fan of Dhoni.

He should have at least acknowledged him (from a few metres even due to covid) ...but he didnt. And that is disappointing.

Dhoni knew it wasn't some street merchant shouting a few words at him, it was a Pakistani player.

The usual same narrative you are quoting, without any specifics.
I remember in Gwalior in 1998, when Pak team was touring , i was lucky to be in stadium durign practice and saw all members of the some ranji side fawning over the pak cricketers.

The tables have turned now.

It's the Indian players who are revered by the Pakistani players these days and not how it used to be.

Watch the video once again..

We have checked with the PCB and the only conversation that happened was this:

Dahani : You are looking fit and good

Dhoni : Not really, I am getting old now

Dahani: No you are still looking fit

There was NO other conversation.

Wow. This is exactly what came into my mind when I was reading the posts on the first page. I was going to post about it. Thanks. :inti

Yeah it is pretty natural. I am very sure Shubman Gill and Prithvi Shaw will be excited to meet Babar and ask for few tips on batting/mental side of things from him

Well I hope Bewal Express doesn't watch this video lol, he might pop a vessel.

I saw a Pakistani player who went out of his way to have a handshake with Rohit and Jadeja as they reached near the Pakistani players, can't identify who though. Looked a bit like Faheem Ashraf.

Some people are just blinded by hate and stupidity.

Players are human beings, greeting someone and showing some respect isn't going to kill anyone.

Good to see some friendship between the players, maybe some certain posters could stop acting like the media of respective countries trying to start fights wherever possible.

The power/celeb dynamics has certainly become uber skewed now.

In the 90s, top Indian players earned more than Pak players but it was still a situation of relative parity.

Things took off in 2000s when 2nd rung players like Yuvi earned in multiples of the highest paid Pak players.

And now it's just absurd because so many Indian players who don't even play for India like Krunal, Rana, Tripathi etc earn more than national players of Pakistan.

And unlike some Indian posters who think Indian youngsters would fawn over, let's say Babar, because of his cricketing achievement is not something I see happening - AT ALL.

Not fawn, but have a respectful meet and greet and discuss batting if possible.

chalo, still much better than ignored, or the "ap dhoni, mein dhani, ap indian mein pakistani" theories 🤭

on the game day at some point he will get his moment, he is a young happy go lucky kid having a heck of a time, we need to let him be, once he spends enough time he will learn the formalities.

Nothing wrong with what Dahani did. He's a young player meeting one of the legends of the game.

It happens in any sport. If you watch any game where Messi is playing, there's always young players in the opposition team desperate to get his shirt, autograph or even a selfie with him. It's natural for people to behave like that in the real world. Not acting like that is either weird patriotism or arrogance.

The only time when you speak to the opposition is when ur calling heads or tails.

Captain grumpy is the only way if you want a world class team!

I am betting on both of them not even acknowledging his presence.

Hmmm....u r judging a 3 dimensional event from a 2 dimensional screen in front of you. Msd was walking straight and engrossed in convo with an indian player, its quite possible that his facial gestures were one of politeness when Dahanni spoke to him-which everyone here has missed.

I am betting on both of them not even acknowledging his presence.

I wold doubt. I had the pleasure of meeting both in NZ during the U19 WC. very grounded down to earth.
your betting sensibility is clouded by the typical narrative so prevalent for a non event like this.

For all the hype and hooplah on this forum a bout legends and nobodies
on 2016 eng tour of india, Haseeb hameed gushed eloquently about how VK took time out for him and gave tips. In 2016 VK was already 'there' hameed was starting out.
I can give several other examples like Zaheer abbas helping Azhar out in 1989 by telling him about a grip change. Azhar giving a class to entire Aus team before banglore test 1998 about crouching low and playing with soft hands (and aus won that test). Rohan kanhai admonishing a young sunil gavaskar in 1971 when he played rashly/false shot on the field, KL rahul saying 'go well young lad' to Cameron Green in the recent 2021 Aus series.
Lets stop judging a 3 dim event from a 2 dim view.

No, they have Kohli and Sharma to look upto and Babar doesn't have a fan following in India unlike Dhoni, Kohli.

Things took off in 2000s when 2nd rung players like Yuvi earned in multiples of the highest paid Pak players.

Someone who won Man of the tournament in a world cup can't be called a second rung cricketer.
He earned more bcoz of his trailblazing batting and obviously for being the best t20 batsman in the world when it all started.

No, they have Kohli and Sharma to look upto and Babar doesn't have a fan following in India unlike Dhoni, Kohli.

I don't think any of the current Pakistani players have fan followings in India.

Looking back that ended when the likes of Shahid Afridi retired from international cricket. Before that the likes of Wasim, Waqar, Inzamam, Shoaib Akhtar, Saeed Anwar had huge fan following in India.

Dhoni now meeting DHani, malik, Babar and having a good chat with them.

As per reports, Haris requested this shirt when the players met MSD after the India v Pakistan clash in the T20 World Cup.
