Pakistan spinner Yasir Shah produced a candidate for 'Ball of the Century' with his magnificent delivery that left Sri Lanka batter Kusal Mendis shell-shocked.

While the late, great Shane Warne undoubtedly produced the 'Ball of the Century' during the 20th century, Pakistan veteran Yasir Shah has laid claims to doing similar in the 21st century following his peach of a delivery against Sri Lanka in the first Test in Galle on Monday.

Yasir delivered his own moment of magic when he clean bowled Sri Lanka batter Kusal Mendis with a textbook leg-spin delivery that completely bamboozled the in-form right hander.

Similar to the efforts of Warne in Manchester some 29 years ago, Yasir's delivery pitched outside leg stump before turning sharply to the left and clipping the top of Mendis' off-stump.

It immediately brought back memories of Warne's magical delivery to dismiss England veteran Mike Gatting during the first Ashes Test at Old Trafford in 1993, with commentators making an instant comparison between the two deliveries.

While it will be difficult to surpass Warne’s stunning ball, Yasir certainly went close as he produced a delivery that is sure to be talked about over the coming years.

Was a peach of a delivery. Most if not everyone in the world cricket would have gone on this one.

Is he still Pakistan's best spinner?

He is but that's like being the nicest guy in prison. It doesn't mean much. He should aspire to compete with the best spinners in the world because there were times in his career when he was arguably the best in the world.

Needs to badly deliver with the ball in the next game.

The audacity and sheer disdain with which he is attacked by SL batters is painful to watch. And he is the most experienced bowler in the side.

He was once feared by opposition batsmen on Asian surfaces.

It's sad to see how times have changed now and he has become the bowler the opponents try to attack the most.

Ball of the year , but warne was a special ball. It was his first ball in ashes , and Gatting was a very good player of spin. Also Warne ball pitched out side leg.

That was a peach of a delivery. Too bad he can't keep up with a consistent line and length anymore.

If that was the ball of the century :warner what do you call the ball from Jayasuriya to a far superior batsman in Babar?

Not even close in my opinion. Adil Rashid to KL Rahul trumps this easily. Even Warne to Strauss can arguably be considered better.
