[VIDEO] Younis Khan drops out of the Level 3 Coaching Course in Lahore

I heard a story of AB (Bachhan). For a shooting at Chennai, he was in his full costume & make - up; just when there was a power outage. Studio people couldn’t arrange generator instantly and AB was sweating. His co actors started to complain and asked for canceling the schedule. Anupam Kher (who’s telling the story later at Stardust) went to AB (who was reading something), and asked him to raise voice so that either they cancel the schedule or fix the issue quickly. AB politely asked him to relax & have patience, because this is out of control for the studio/organizer. If anyone makes their life difficult, things’ll get only worse.

Coming to this topic, what I have read from OP, I don’t think it’s an issue of make shift arrangement - YK has hundreds of places in Lahore to stay for a night. I am sure most of his long term team mates are Lahore based and they are not in tours now. The issue is how you treat your celebrity - some of the top NCA people are YKs seniors; I do think if Mushi or Mudassar briefed YK regarding the inconvenience in person, things would have been different.

Here my point is, I am sure no one here has bothered or cared for that YK is invited and he needs an accommodation. How much does it cost for a 5 Star accommodation for one night, may be $200 max - how difficult was it for PCB (someone from) to give him a prior call and inform that, there is a makeshift arrangement - YK can either stay at a hotel (@ PCB’s expense), or they can accommodate him to a Sr. officials place instead of a surprise ? I am sure, it won’t have ended like this.

But yes, his reaction reflects his personality & education; he could have responded in a better manner. No way, he should have missed the course for sure. I am not sure if I have read every bit of the story, but based on OP, one can’t blame YK alone.

One truth is, PCB doesn’t treat it’s players accordingly, therefore the relationship is often bitter - both side is waiting to catch other off guard. I give an example - 2014 PAK Cup (equivalent) was arranged at Multan (?), and that was last audition before WC team selection. Couple of games were rescheduled because players couldn’t come for a railway delay (or something like that).

Bottom line is, some of PAK’s national players for such an important tournament were travelling by train, when the host city has an international airport and PCB spends lavishly for it’s office bearers. Now, if some of those players end up as PAK great, 10 years later don’t get surprised for a counter reaction.

I try to see events from both ends - YK isn’t saint for sure, but I feel most people are shooting him at first sight for his past reputation.

Very good post.

Or in 40 acre Mansion... where do you get this stuff from? Imran is the elite of elites, he has not seen half the poverty YK has seen in his life

So coming from a poor upbringing gives him the right to be rude and obnoxious?

YK is nowhere near Imran. Yes Imran comes from an Elite family that afforded him the best of education and lifestyle. He can confidently interact with the Queen of England or break bread with a a poor laborer sitting on a dirt ground. I have personally seen him come to my school back in 1993 in a crushed shalwar kameez drenched in sweat collecting donations for Shaukat Khanum Hospital. Imagine for an "Arrogant Elitist", how hard it would have been to swallow his pride and ask for Rs 20 from people and then thank them for it. That shows character. And he has done the same consistently for the past 25 years.

Its not a big deal, YK donated his 1 crore to Edhi foundation and he has been involved in various charitable projects too.. Afridi has done much more with his Shahid Afridi foundation, since its not just about one project, but notable others for health care and clean water.. you just don't make one project and gloat about it for eternity...

And that's all that matters. He is someone who would create even more drama, diversions and bring politics into everything. Don't need that toxic atmosphere anymore as we have gotten rid of most of the trouble makers already.

Bhai nobody is gloating about it. BTW it has been an ongoing project not a 1 time deal. SKMF is solely run on donations. And nobody is putting down Shahid Afridi or Abrar ul Hasan or anyone else who is doing commendable charitable work.
This was about you dismissing Imran as an elitist whilst excusing YK for his behaviour.

Yes, enjoying your life as a socialite for majority of your cricketing life and post retirement is no big deal.. Imran is a socialite and has always been one, only after he got ignored with Musharraf in 2002, did he actually decide to go for the people and become a leader of the masses.

Point is that post by that guuy is historically incorrect... and Imran hasn't slept in a charpayee, not that I am aware of atleast.. even his 120 day protest was in a VIP container with A/C and all the other appliances you would need living in a big bus, combined with his weekend trips to the gym at his home in Bani Gala

I beg to disagree... he has been working for the people since 93. I have seen it personally.

I said this back a few years ago when :yk threw his first hissy-fit and I quote "Younus nu lamma pa kay 5-7 juttian maro"

Okay he's a decent player. I don't understand this obsession that many Pak fans have with him. Pak has wasted the careers of many great players in the past, join the club. He is not in the team and probably never will be. Time to accept it and move on.

Next time maybe the PCB should get him a private jet from Karachi to Lahore, put him up in a 5 star hotel and get him a limousine from the hotel and the NCA every day of the course.

Why not? he broke the record for 10K runs and has given his blood, sweat and tears for his country. Is this how legends are treated in other countries? YK is no ordinary Pakistani citizen. It's not about a private jet and 10 star hotel, in fact they are not required; but the least this man deserves is respect. Pakistan fans are incredibly ungrateful really, they put suspicious figures like Wasim Akram and Mohammad Amir on a pedestal but Khan should be criticised for expecting a little professionalism from the PCB clowns?

Outstanding post!

POTW for me

No wonder India keeps outperforming Pakistan in every way, at least they don't bury their heroes and it's not as if Khan is remotely in the wrong here people are just criticisng him like sheep because they think it's the cool thing to do whilst forgetting all he has done for his country. If you were made to live in a dust bin who gives a damn! you're not Younis Khan who deserves to be treated like the KING he has always been, you will be lucky to find another batsman who is capable of giving even 50% of what he left on the cricket pitch. Ungrateful people, he should donate those 10K runs to India.

Was he ever this bothered about accommodation when he was making his way up from poverty to superstardom? To be fair, PCB could have been more “accommodating” but this debacle doesn’t reflect too well on either party.

So did Younis Khan complete this coaching course later on?

Younis Khan in the news again ....

Reports say that he is unhappy with PCB's non payment of his dues AND also has been replaced by Hashim Amla as mentor for Peshawar Zalmi (or did he leave himself?)

Money owed for what. The PCB should keep their distance from the ego maniac.

He was respected in PZ I am not sure what happened there while his problems with PCB are never ending.

If he can get his mind sorted he can be pretty useful to guide youngsters at junior levels. Dropping out of coaching courses and having issues with PCB and others in cricket arena will serve no purpose for anyone. Letting his emotions taking control of him has always been the issue.

Pakistan’s greatest Test batsman Younis Khan, who had decided to pursue a career in coaching after participating in a Level 3 Coaching Course in Lahore, is now returning to Karachi after he was asked to stay in the room of a senior management official.

The leading runs scorer for Pakistan tweeted a video of him, revealing the irresponsible act of the National Cricket Academy’s staff in Lahore.

“I have arrived here in Lahore at the National Cricket Academy (NCA). As you all know I am here to take part on Level 3 course. But bad luck is that, when I reached here, there was no information about me,” Younis said in a video message.

“I came here after receiving a mail from NCA, in which it was written that it will be an honour for us if you participate in this training pregame. This message motivated me and led me to here.”

“When I arrived, I was asked to stay in this room for a night, which belongs to a senior management official. I can’t stay here without permission, so I have decided to travel back to Karachi.”

“I can’t take part in the course, where I was asked to share other’s room. It is an embarrassment for Younis Khan,” he added.

Younis, who retired from the Test cricket last year after becoming the country’s most successful Test cricketer with 10,099 runs, was asked to participate in the course. It is being organized by Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and will be conducted by Australians.

Former Test-spinner Akram Raza is also participating in this course. Back in 2011, the PCB removed Raza, who was then an umpire in Pakistan’s domestic matches, from umpiring after he was arrested on charges of betting on Indian Premier League matches.

Good news for Younis Khan - should he wish to come back...

According to some sports reporters, he might be the next chief selector

Disaster!!! Keep this drama queen leech out of every kind of administrative work.

Without this "drama queen", we wouldn't have won a WT20. His captaincy was instrumental to our success in 2009. Have some respect for one of our legends.

Outstanding news, finally a real patriot is taking up the role. All true blooded Pakistanis should be delighted.

Bro see how India, Australia and other cricketing Nations treat their stars.
You need to treat a guy like Younis in a much better way; honestly there shud have been a proper reception for him.

Mate, an Australian turning up to learn & do a coaching degree would expect the same treatment as anyone else doing the course, no more, no less. There is an expectation of egalitarianism here.

Allan Border & Steve Waugh wait in the queue and pay for hotels the same as anyone else. Can't imagine either one whining in an online media post that they got given a normal hotel room.

maybe something got miscommunicated but I think the point was that he was invited to a training course, and then not given any room, it'd be a bit weird to expect to stay in someone else's room. if the PCB had already communicated to him that there was no room, and he showed up expecting a room, that would be another matter.

There’s no way that would happen. No one in their right mind would appoint someone as volatile as YK as a CS.

YK does not have the temperament or the professionalism to handle a corporate job.

It’ll be a recipe for disaster

He is a student of Bob Woolmer and secondly was a better tactician as a captain after Wasim...

For the current situation where players pick their own friends , selector who picks his friends will be abolished under MYK..

Would be interesting to see how he does as a national selector, might be the job that will benefit Pak

His hot head and taking things personally is the only problem or else he would have long served as captain for pakistan across all formats.

Yes right. So do whatever it takes to please him right? Have you counted how many times he has caused embarrassment to himself and others around him? I can write a book on the events.
