Good

Scoring runs against International bowlers/borderline international bowlers and some pie chuckers like fakhar.

Hope he shows a few more of these innings and can make himself in contention for National selection

Impressed with this knock more than Abdullah's knock. However too early to say he has to keep this going throughout the tournament. He is more suited to white ball cricket while Abdullah is more suited to red ball cricket I feel (early days though).

He needs a solid tournament where he's given a proper chance and scores big.

In the past he's not had a proper chance in domestic, I hope that changes.

Well I think Abdullah is technically more sound than him. He looks more of a t20 player whereas Abdullah seems to be an ideal ODi player.

He isn't bad

But he doesn't strike me as on Abdullah's level.

He can still do a job at 5-6 for us.

Abdul ah is a proper top 4 player. This guy can start at 6 and work his way up like Dilshan did for SL. The confidence to play hard is there

Zeeshan Malik is more suited up the order same with abdullah but abdullah is technically better than zeeshan but both have impressed

Was very good in first t20 but poor shot in 2nd match
Typical Pakistani player who doesn't know how to continue good form .

He has the shots just needs to use his brains abit more let's see how he does throughout the tournament

Zeeshan Malik is okay. Good for domestics and maybe if he’s lucky he’ll get picked in PSL and do decently there.

47 ball 77 is actually quite slow on a track like this, to be honest.

Usually batsmen are approaching 90 (50) by this point. Especially with such short boundaries.

He didn’t rotate the strike particularly well either, and his shots while strong were not particularly classy to standout. Of course, some players are more effective than classy and for that Zeeshan will have to be more consistent.

Only 2 games so far, early days.

Batting very nicely again today.

Half century and another good partnership with Haider Ali.

He is decent, but not a world beater.
Needs a lot of hardwork if he wants to become break through to the national side.

Why is that so? it's not like there's a lot of competition. Only needs to outperform Sharjeel and Fakhar

Abdullah shafiq and haider ali are much better.
I quite liked young Hurraira too. He was brilliant against spin.

84 off 52 balls.

Some excellent shots again.

Haider is gonna bat at 3 in T20's. We need a dasher to accompany Babar up top and Abdullah isn't the answer.

Temperamentally solid. Technically he doesnt look as good as Haider, Abdullah or I think even Ali Imran in some aspects currently. However, he knows his game and like them he also backs himself without fear which is the key in the format and he doesnt shy away from playing a long innings. Also he scored a 216 in last QAE so his defensive technique should be decent.

I don't think we should read that much into this performance. This is not a great bowling attack and his shots haven't convinced me at all. A lot of hacks and mistimed shots there. It would be a mistake to prefer him over someone like Abdullah Shafiq. But Misbah might just do that, going by the eye for talent he's shown so far.

Agree. PSL level player at best. Don't think he's international level.

Haven't seen Ali Imran bat before but looked pretty good today by our domestic standards.

Got man of the match today for his 84 off 52.

Sometimes these players develop quicker in more pressure environments. i would have all these guys competing in the T20 team.

He is having a good tournament however I feel he is not ready for international cricket yet. For his sake I hope he is not drafted into international setup yet or he would be discarded after a series or two into wilderness for years.

I want him to work closely with Mohammed Wasim and churn out consistent performances in QEA this year. On top of that I want him to improve his fitness standards to be ready for international cricket. Today he went down at least 3 times for various reasons and quite evidently was struggling to match the running of Shadab later on.

I see a potential ODI player in him only if he keeps working on his game strongly.

He's gotten the runs in this tournament, but he hasn't been particularly convincing with his strokeplay like Haider or Abdullah. I feel he's played better in the past, but is perhaps over-eager to impress in this tournament. Remember that this is the only way for players to really come into contention for PSL selection and this is his best chance yet.

To elaborate on his batting in this tournament, I don't think he's playing all the balls on merit which he's capable of. He's trying to manufacture shots and also overhitting. That's also why he's ending up dragging the ball towards the leg-side a lot of the time.

One thing that was impressive today (which highlights don't cover) is that he played much fewer dot balls in comparison to the last game. Great to see improvement on that front.

I think he can be left undone by incoming delivery esp fuller length or Yorker length.....
He is vulnerable.....he got out at wrong time.... He looked in hurry and tried to manufacture strokes.... Unlike Haider who looked class .....even in his short cameo.....
But he is scoring runs.....and if he carry on doing so.......a PSL contract is round the cirner

I work hard to attain my goals: Zeeshan Malik

Multan, 5 October 2020:

The ongoing National T20 Cup for First XIs has brought exciting up and coming cricketers to limelight. One of them who has left an indelible mark after the first 10 matches is Northern’s opening batsman Zeeshan Malik.

The 23-year-old right-handed batsman is leading the list for the tournament’s highest run-getters, something that he had been planning since he was named in the 16-player squad of the defending champions.

He now sits at the top of that chart with 192 runs – which include two half-centuries – at an average of 48. He has struck 21 fours, which are the most for any batsman in the tournament, to date.

That Northern have had a perfect start to the tournament and lead the points table is due to the solid foundation they have been provided courtesy their young top-order.

Zeeshan, who likes to cut and drive the ball, smashed a remarkable 47-ball 77 in the opening match of the tournament against Khyber Pakhtunkhwa over the course of which he rewrote the history books, setting the highest stand for the second wicket (180) in the history of the National T20 Cup with Haider Ali.

Three matches later, on 4 October against Sindh, Zeeshan bettered his career statistics as he recorded his best score in T20 cricket with a swashbuckling 84 off 52 balls that set Northern’s 13-run win.

“If your half-century contributes to your team’s win it means a lot more than a century in a losing cause,” Zeeshan said. “I have really enjoyed batting in Multan and I hope to continue my form in the Rawalpindi-leg.

“My aim is to finish among the top run-getters for the tournament and I would continue to work hard to ensure I finish the tournament on a high. I do not compromise on my goals. I have the temperament to work really hard in their pursuit and will continue to do so in the future.”

Zeeshan had created an impression on his coach Mohammad Wasim and team management with a brilliant 216 during Northern’s first-class Quaid-e-Azam Trophy tournament fixture against Southern Punjab at the Jinnah Stadium, Sialkot, last season. This was his maiden century in the format.

In 16 first-class matches, to date, he has scored 1,032 runs – which also include six half-centuries - at an average 0f 33.29.

Zeeshan featured for Northern’s Second XI side in the last season’s National T20 Cup and his penchant for scoring freely across the dial and ability to hit the ball further added to his credentials and, as such, he was named in the ‘A’ category of the domestic central contracts for the 2020-21 season.

“Northern has played a significant role in my development as a batsman,” said Zeeshan. “Our coach Mohammad Wasim has put a great faith in me by promoting me to the First XI team and I look to repay it with my performances.”

Zeeshan started his journey as a cricketer when he represented Rawalpindi U16 in December 2012 in Pepsi PCB Cricket Stars U16s Tournament.

He toured England with Pakistan U17 team in August 2014 before featuring for Pakistan U19 side against Afghanistan and Kenya at home later that year. In 2016, he featured in the ICC U19 Cricket World Cup, in which the national team finished at the fifth position.

Zeeshan, who likes to play football in his free time, admires Mohammad Hafeez and AB de Villiers and aims to work hard to represent Pakistan at the apex level.

“AB de Villiers is my favourite international batsman, while I really admire the batting style of Mohammad Hafeez. My aim is to represent Pakistan. I will continue to strive hard to attain this goal.”

I agree with this, he was trying to overhit balls against pace early on in his innings, looked good vs spin and then when he settled down hit some good shots vs pace too. He should just play his natural shots rather than try to manufacture them.

As you said, he has looked better in the past, but its still good to see him performing.

Zeeshan showing class and character ....undone by the pressure created by Amin's poor game

Good knock of 61 (35) today. Let down by his opening partner though.

This was his best knock out of the 3, played proper shot vs the seamers instead of trying to slog, annoyed with him for playing that stupid dinky shot to get out though, there was no need.

Also, yeah, Umer Amin was BAD today.

Umer Amin has never kicked on and never will. He is late on the ball and the reason for that is that his reactions are poor. Quite simple not good enough. He needs to suffer the same fate as Farhat etc.

3 scores of over 50 in the tournament - 61, 84 and 77.

Averaging 38 at a strike rate of 140 aren't bad numbers really.

Just needs to finish off the tournament with a few big scores.

Very good knock unfortunately his batting partner didnt help him out and pressure was consitantly on him

Not good enough for international cricket. If he has the temperament of someone like Shan Masood, he may get to take his game up a notch, but that’s very unlikely. It’s clear from those highlights, he is on the level of Awais Zia, Kamran Akmal, Khurram Manzoor. Players who will do really well at domestic but don’t belong in international cricket.

How...??

He looked good and compact when he started but his technique deteriorated over the time , I think he is just having a good form and will eventually fail in upcoming domestic season , doesn't have good technique and temperament. Yes reminds me of Farhat , Kami , Awais and Imran Nazir with a slightly better technique.

Just the way he plays his shots. It’s obvious he doesn’t quite have that natural talent or ability to pick length that the top batsmen have.

There’s no way he should replace Imam, Fakhar or Abid in any format.

There’s a gap between him and Abdullah. And a gulf between Abdullah and Haider.

Not convinced by Zeeshan yet, get the feeling he'll be the sort of player who will bash minnows for fun and struggle badly against the better sides. Happy to be proven wrong though

I don’t think he will ever get a Pakistan debut. Top order is already packed with other players more talented than him. Of course, the same has been said about many before who then went and worked hard, only to come back twice as good - so I won’t write him off.

He will do excellent in domestic cricket though.

Even inconsistent against minnows. But on his day he will score brilliant hundreds and big fifties.

He needs to work on his temperament I'd stil play him against Zimbabwe in t20s only

Got his opportunity in NZ tour lets see what he can bring to table

Hopefully he performs in the t20s for the shaheens to stake his claim for the main squad in future

Not in any Pakistan One Day Cup squads! What's happened here?

Ok Zeeshan has told us that he is taking one week's rest after return from New Zealand where he was part of the Shaheens squad - he expects to join his side after 1 week

This seems to be the case with all the Pak Shaheen's, since none of them are in the Pakistan cup squads, they must be on a rest period.
