[VIDEOS] Concerns about Shadab Khan's bowling

Seems like he have recurring fitness issues. Should get completely fit before a test recall.

Yes, he should be part of test side in SC and home and should be that 3rd spinner. The tactics of bowling in test matches is completely different to bowling in T20 cricket. In T20s, he have to bowl with more speed and flatter trajectory because he knows the the batters will try to attack him and that is why it disturbs his line and length sometimes. We can only know his test bowling form after we see him playing in a test or FC match, but looking at his from and maturity as a player, he should be part of the test team as soon as he gets rid of his injuries.

With respect, you are still thinking of Shadab Khan as a specialist spinner.

I don’t think that’s his role.

His role is to be a Tony Greig / Moeen Ali, who can reliably average 35 with the bat from Number 7 in Tests and bowl 4 decent overs of spin per session in the first three innings of a Test and bowl more on Day 5.

I agree his role isn't as a specialist spinner.

Even a bowler who plays as a part timer, he doesnt play just because he can bowl a ball, part timers play because they can accurately bowl with good line and length.
If part timers did not have good line and length they would not had been used. Also part timers dont even spin the ball.

Moeen Ali bowls at a very good line and length, so did Hafeez and thats why they got overs.

Shadab as mentioned again and again has difficulty bowling with accuracy.

Day 5 cricket isn't some kind of joke. On a day 5 wicket, you need your most accurate spinner to keep bowling. On a day 5 wicket, if you have accuracy, even your part timer like Hafeez can get you a wicket. All you have to do is bowl on the patch and the ball will turn on its own and get you a wicket.

If on day 5 you are bowling 2 full tosses and 2 short of the length, you are likely to have an economy of 6 and over in test

Leg spin is an attacking option so more likely will go for more runs but they are attacking options.

Ali and hafeez bowl offspin so they will most likely keep the runs down.

Nope not really. Im not rrally talking about attack or defense, plus attacking or defense depends upon your field set.

Afridi use to bowl defensively and rely on the player to make mistakes.

But attack or defence isnt issue. Issue is proper line amd length.

But when you have variety your more likely to miss your length.

Great bowling by him today again. All his deliveries fell at the right line and length. He couldnt get more wickets because he was bowling agianst kamran akmal and Malik who couldn't attack him. He picked kamran out on a very good delivery. Malik had to take risk against him in the final over which paid off for him.

But great bowling by Shadab today

Bowler of PSL 7 award achieved!

Shadab not there so collected on his behalf.

Questionable decision to give Shadab bowler of the psl 7

Did you watch the PSL? He was exceptional almost every time he bowled. Whenever he came on he took wickets and often the other team had gotten off to a flyer.

I watched majority of it I would have given it to Shaheen he got to the final.

Based on his form why wasnt he picked in the test squad?

In SENA conditions he should play becouse he can chip in with overs and bat decently we'll at 7/8.

In asain conditions you need someone who can take wickets and bowl long spells.

Wicket at last!

Shadab has definitely benefited with Saqlain being head coach. His bowling has improved a lot since Saqi has come to the coaching set up.

His crucial 4 wickets yesterday:

Really hope he works on his fitness and plays red ball cricket at domestic level. Looking at the spin bowling resources we have at test level, he as a package would be more than handy at test level in a 5 bowlers attack but first needs to show his fitness and form in red ball cricket.

He has always seemed like one of the fittest players in the side and he is always a livewire on the field. Yet he keeps getting injured. Surely there has to be some other issue. Could he be injury-prone, or having some pre-existing issue?

I have heard from sources that Shadab has a serious problem with his leg that needs an operation but won't have it because of the busy schedule coming up,including the WC.

When you give your maximum effort the injury level can increase.

He was struggling with his groin over the last year or so, haven’t heard much about anything else so far. Even in the PSL 2022 he had to sit out of few matches due to the same groin injury.

It maybe that but the source described it as a leg injury. It maybe a desi way of describing a groin injury

He was stil playing a few t20 blast games so surely can't be that bad.

A chance to shine for Shadab in the upcoming ODIs and the Asia Cup

Shadab didn’t perform with the ball or bat when he was with Yorkshire earlier this year.May be it is the English pitches. He bowled well today.

See the difference 10k of pace makes to a spinner like Shahdab , he amp up his speed from 85k AVG to 95k in T20s and even without good control and accuracy he is handful in deceiving the batsmen on slightly helpful wickets.

Top bowler & a gun fielder. In last year or so he has improved a lot.

I was very critical of him around 2020. But he has come back strongly in last one year and his bowling has been looking the sharpest it has ever been.

Looks like he has fully recovered from his injury and he is rotating his hips more and bowling accurately

Ramiz raja picked him out 5 years ago during CT as a special talent.

Seems like he’s following through

His accuracy since his comeback has been unbelievable! A treat to watch these days!

The Saqlain effect for sure. Has been a different bowler since Saqlain has been coach starting with the T20 World cup last year. Let's hope he can continue his good bowling form.

Mamoon quiet here after bumping the Naseem thread.

I guess he’s waiting for Shadab to have a bad match then he can come in with his ‘form is temporary…’

Now he can play test also. Took his time but good to see him coming of age.

Shadab was struggling a bit couple of years when he was consistently getting injured but sure has been really good for the past 1-1.5 years or so.

Consistently bowling very economically and his batting continues to improve. I think he'll need to be great if Pakistan are to pull off something amazing in the 2023 WC in India.

The fact that he learns and improves sets him apart from those who sit on what they have.

Shadab is a vital cog for Pakistan.

He's bowling brilliantly and is not bowling any bad balls and pluss He's pakistans best fielder.

He was coming back from an injury and need match practise which was perfect for Pakistan.

Brilliant ball to the batter of the series (and the most exciting young cricketer in the world) in my opinion.

Shadab demands respect whilst bowling, batsmen have started taking minimum risks against him.

The one loose ball per over seems to be a thing of the past.

He's become a very reliable option with the ball.

He has been very good recently. Just needs to bat more and stay fit.

Excellent once again.

Shadab Khan with the ball this year in T20Is:

4-34-2
4-25-1
4-28-1
4-27-1
4-31-2
2.4-8-4
4-19-0
Economy-rate of 6.45

he may have to open our bowing, then bowl 2 overs around 10-12 over mark, 1 at around 16th over

Top five wicket-takers for Pakistan in T20Is

Shahid Afridi: 97 wickets
Shadab Khan: 86 wickets
Umar Gul: 85 wickets
Saeed Ajmal: 85 wickets
Haris Rauf: 62 wickets

Excellent bowling figures once again for Shadab Khan 4-21-0

This year in T20Is his economy-rate is just 6.89

Shadab Khan has a strong case to be the greatest Asian spinner in T20I cricket

His bowling stats are :-

Matches - 80
Wickets - 91
AVG - 21
Econ - 7.01

Add to that a wonderful performance in WT20 semi final vs the ultimate champions of the tournament with a 4-fer vs Australia. That was basically the Afridi moment of 2009 for Shadab but a dropped catch and some poor death over bowling costed them the game.

Add to that, he is a decent batsman ( Ashwin level) and very good fielder.

Talking about his contenders, there is Yuzi Chahal who hasn't played a single WT20 game yet, Ashwin who has been good for an off spinner point of view but not necessarily a wicket taker like Shadab Khan or any other top wrist spinner.

Muralitharan and Ajmal both had suspected actions, Murali particularly didn't played enough T20s to be in this contention and Hasaranga has quite some way to go. This leaves us with Rashid Khan as the only true contender for this tag.

Who do you think are your top 3 Asian spinners in T20 cricket?

I feel that this thread will be bumped many times in future and not for happy reasons

Comms were saying they felt he bowled too quickly today and therefore didn't get the amount of turn that Adil Rashid did.

Shadab could not turn like rashid

I think rain played a big part also. When Pakistan was batting there was a tennis ball bounce. But with the rain the ball skidding also shadab was getting no turn with the ball due to wet wicket. Did this play a party?

He was bowling too quick and Rashid has slowed down considerably and also a much better legspinner regardless. Rashid is an elite level leggie

Pakistan vice-captain Shadab Khan was not considered for selection for the 3-match ODI Series after he suffered a fracture on his right index finger in Australia last week.

Poor start to PSL8 for Shadab:

Overs 7
Runs conceded 82
Wickets 1
Average 82
Economy rate 11.71

Would be worried that he is playing through an injury.

He was world class 6 months ago. Players don't normally have dramatic dips in form like this unless something else is going on.

He got marrie. Maybe extra pressure with the Mrs watching. I think it's a temporary dip and he should be good once the honeymoon stage is over

He is playing through an injury. He fractured his bowling finger at the BBL and gas come back too early. Because recent times Shehzad doesn’t miss his length as much. His hand still isn’t 100% and his control is getting affected because of that

Needs to wake up

Abrar
Imad
Mir

These 3 boys have been better spinners than he has

If he's not 100% fit then he shouldn't be playing. He should be recovering from injury and trying to get to full fitness.

It'd be interesting to know how much pressure these guys are under from their franchises to turn up.

We see the Aussies only play the BBL at their own convenience but i'm not sure Pakistan players could do the same so easily.

Having unfit players forcing themselves through the PSL would be pretty disasturous for us.

Smashed to all parts today but still bowled 3 overs.

He keeps saying he's not fit. I repeat if he is not fit, why is he playing, why is he taking the place of a player who is fit.
