There is a new format coming to the Caribbean in 2022 with Cricket West Indies and the Caribbean Premier League bringing you THE 6IXTY – Cricket’s Power Game.

The first edition of THE 6IXTY will see men’s and women’s teams compete in a new 60-ball tournament featuring many of the best cricketers from around the world with SKYEXCH the title sponsor for 2022.

This revolutionary format will see brand new innovations that will change T10 cricket and make the game even faster paced and action packed.

Fans can look forward to the following exciting new rules:

Each batting team has six wickets – at the fall of the sixth wicket they are all out

Each batting team has two PowerPlay overs. They can unlock a third PowerPlay by hitting two sixes in the first 12 balls. This extra PowerPlay over can be taken at any time between overs 3-9

There will be 30 balls bowled from one end before the action switches to the other end for the final 30 balls

The 30 balls will be delivered as 5 separate overs, with no bowler being able to bowl more than 2 overs for the innings.

If teams do not bowl their overs within the allotted time a member of their team is removed from the field for the final six balls

Fans will vote for the timing of a “Mystery Free Hit” where a batter can’t be dismissed by the bowler

The first edition of THE 6IXTY will take place from 24 to 28 August in St Kitts & Nevis at one of world cricket’s fastest scoring grounds – Warner Park. Future expansion plans of the 6IXTY include the potential of multiple events at different locations around the Caribbean and beyond.

THE 6IXTY is a joint venture between Cricket West Indies and the Caribbean Premier League with the two organisations working closely together to create another world-class event.

Ricky Skerritt, President of Cricket West Indies, said: “THE 6IXTY has come about because of a close collaboration between CPL and CWI which is the way forward. I am really excited about the innovation, excitement and entertainment that it is going to bring to the fans.”

Pete Russell, Hero CPL’s CEO, said: “This is a hugely exciting moment for both CPL and Cricket West Indies as we create a tournament that will see cricket fans brought closer to the game. There will be world-class men’s and women’s cricketers taking part in a fantastic event for the Caribbean and this combined with cutting-edge innovations, signals a great moment for all fans of West Indian cricket.”

This is what happens when cringe/woke ECB try to do things differently and open the door for a lot of nonsense throughout the world

Anything in the Name of innovation, what a time to be alive as cricket fan. Rip classic and actual cricket.

If The Hundred wasn't less cringeworthy, we now have a cheap imitation of that in form of SIXTY.

It seems like basically t10 however you have 6 wickets to play with rather than 10. The 30 balls from one end, and than the switch from the other doesn't sound like too much of a bad idea. But the rest sounds pretty lame. Dont like the idea of the fans voting mystery free hit.

Rather if they wanted that concept, they have a an over ( were batting team cant be out) they can have it between the first 5 overs, can be known as a power over as an example, and its allowed for 1 over only. Both teams get it.

The idea of fans voting for a mystery free hit does not seem great.

All in all not a fan of this but might give it a watch or 2 too see what it looks like

Fans will vote for the timing of a “Mystery Free Hit” where a batter can’t be dismissed by the bowler

:)))

So a bowler picks up a wicket... Goes ahead and celebrates it...and then gets to know that it doesn't count because some random Rajesh sitting in Kanpur decided that the ball he bowled will be a free hit. You can't make this up. :91:

What next, 40 ball matches, maybe 50 ball games or even 30.

Basically, another name for T10 and weird rules.

People's attention span is getting shorter and the continued tinkering of cricket is doing a lot more harm. Tests, ODI's and T20's must not change at all and I highly doubt one of the formats would disappear, it just won't happen no matter what. The introduction of T20 leagues has made it feel as if there is less international cricket being played these days I just don't know why (I haven't been paying attention to the international cricketing calendar as of recent). In Western countries, there's a bit of a buzz surrounding these T20 leagues but nothing substantial from what I've seen, they're not as popular as you might think. I know Indian fans who do watch IPL but don't really have a deep love for it, they usually prefer watching the Barclays Premier league which is more widely accepted and more popular globally. Introducing more formats and more leagues suggests that new generation cricketers would want to be playing more of these pyjama leagues due to being paid millions, thus reducing the interest in playing for their international team. And with this new format announced by WI, I feel as if there is not much attention being given to developing new young cricketers who can compete in international cricket. Cricket as a sport should not try and copy football, it looks like a cheap carbon copy of it.

I love how marketers and administrators trying to market cricket keep coming up with brilliant new solutions... how about less cricket than the other form of cricket which is already a form of less cricket?

That way people who don't like cricket will have less to dislike!

I think in the end we will just see the toss and that's it. It will be called "The Toss". I think cricket is going towards that lol. What is the need for this now?

Next we will see “THE ZERO”. A format designed for people who don’t traditionally see themselves as cricket fans. The concept is that you sit down to watch a game of cricket, and they put on a game of football instead.

CWI are desperate for money.

It sounds like a glorified T10, and a warm-up event for the CPL.

So you think this is going to be a success. Which means fans are going to show/consume this format. Which would validate this move from Cricket WI.

Why unnecessarily drag India into this discussion? This is disrespectful. Blame WI cricket board for this. In case you don't know India was among the countries who were not in favor of T20 format getting official international status.

These formats are to bring in new people to the game - for the converted, we will look at these with amusement/bewilderment and move on.

Why is the name 6IXTY? is it supposed to be pronounced sixixty?

I noticed the same n thought it should’ve been 6ty or 6sixty

But if you pronounce 6IXTY without pausing, it sounds as “6 sixty” - that is, 6 wicket 60 balls.

This is a good thing.

All of this - the 100, the 6ixty, the T10 - will kill T20s as we know it. T20s have already been found out like ODIs a few years ago, which explain the annual rule changes and the drift to these supposedly new formats.

Long live test cricket which doesn't need any of this tinkering or mindless innovation.

Brilliant! Keep these coming lol

Cricket is such an abomination at the moment.

Money invades all sports - Football is awash with it, tennis, now Golf.

No sport allows itself to be disfigured and ruined the way ICC does.

People don't realize that but for test cricket, the whole sport will die. Ironic I know.

Take out test cricket and soon people will lose all respect for, and worse, interest in the pantomime each country is serving up in the name of this wonderful sport.

Would love to see...

"the Toss"

innovative franchise tournament. Plenty of desperate Indian businessman willing to spend millions of dollars with millions of Indian cricket fans excited to watch this.

Lots of Mamoon and Joshila types will emerge to tell us this tournament is better than the PSL because of the amount of Indian money it generates.

Quoted for truth.

What's missing in this 6ixty is the Pakistani gully way of selecting teams where opposing captains take turns. They do taali with the other person and call out the player you want in your team.

Good luck explaining this to hardcore TikTok League Fans. :inti

This is what happens when you come up with abominations like The Hundred. Aren't T20 leagues profitable enough?

It's bad enough that we have to put up with the inevitable demise of 50 over cricket but now we have to accommodate 10 overs a side as well?

Ridiculous.

Having said that, the days of test cricket being the premier format of the game are well and truly over. Most boards make losses while hosting tests and that should not be the case. There is no future for the format except for a few teams.

Firstly, BCCI extend schedule of IPL and now WICB comes with even more foolish idea..
ODIs needs to be revived, enough of these garbage t20 leagues.

Lol what's the guarantee that those fans who are liking T20 leagues now won't get bored of it after 5-7 years? That day is not far when IPL and other leagues will change their format to T10s. When this happens, new set of fans will come up. They will most likely call T20s boring and slow. :91:

If BCCI is trying to compete with football then they will have to bring the duration of these matches to around 90-120 mins. T10s are perfect for them. :inti

There is no evidence so far that T20 cricket is losing popularity. On what basis are you saying that "the day is not far when leagues change to T10" ? Do you have any numbers to show that viewership is declining? Or that the format is not profitable for boards? Or are you just shooting blanks?

The issue is not even about BCCI. Not sure why you brought BCCI and IPL into this. Test cricket is profitable for BCCI and so it does not matter.

On the other hand, other boards make losses while hosting most teams for tests. Zimbabwe cricket loses half a million dollars ir something just trying to host 1 test series.

If you introduce multiple limited overs formats, there will be cannibalisation of the earlier format. That is completely unnecessary.

Similar arguments were made in 2007 that ODI's won't lose popularity and here we are. Every country will come up with these T10 leagues eventually just like T20s. :inti

I remember playing 6 a side tournaments back in the day where 5 of your side bowled one over each.

I guess they could have been marketed as the 30.

Won't be surprised if that's launched as a format.

I think we should have a world cup every week; all teams need to do is win based on a toss of a coin.

I actually quite like the sound of it.

99.9% of people here criticising it will most certainly give it a try as well.

The most fun I ever had playing cricket was playing these 8 overs a side game tournaments on the streets of karachi.

I want to see one season of this before making a judgement.

The 6IXTY is delighted to announce that Chris Gayle, the leading T20 player of all time, will be the Brand Ambassador for the new 60-ball tournament which gets underway in St Kitts & Nevis on 24 August 2022.

The Caribbean Premier League (CPL) and Chris Gayle have confirmed that he will not play in CPL this year, to concentrate instead on The 6IXTY for the 2022 season.

Gayle said: “I am going for the shorter format this year. I am genuinely excited about the current innovations in the 6ixty and seeing how they play out. In particular I am looking forward to the mystery team ball and hitting two sixes in the first 12 balls to unlock a third PowerPlay over.”

Gayle, the self-proclaimed Universe Boss, will be playing in the tournament and will be acting as host for the six teams. Gayle has the most runs, most hundreds, most sixes and the most scores of fifty or more in T20 cricket so he perfectly suits Cricket’s Power Game.

The tournament will feature six men’s teams and three women’s teams who will be fighting for their own version of the Universe Boss Trophy, named in Chris Gayle’s honour.

Gayle has been working with the tournament organisers to develop this innovative and exciting format.

Fans can look forward to the following at The 6IXTY:

Each batting team has six wickets – at the fall of the sixth wicket they are all out.

Each batting team has two PowerPlay overs. They can unlock a third PowerPlay by hitting two sixes in the first 12 balls. This extra PowerPlay over can be taken at any time between overs 3-9.

Fans will vote for the timing of a “Mystery Free Hit” where a batter can’t be dismissed by the bowler.

Chris Gayle said: “It is a great feeling to actually have a trophy named after The Universe Boss, something fantastic, and I am really and truly looking forward to it. I am sure people will ask if this is real, a trophy named for Chris Gayle. Yes, it is happening, and I am really happy about it. I am looking forward to all the innovations.”

What a nonsense! Why not play a double wicket or Max Cricket?
As expected familiar Pakistani names are a there. Nice holiday in the Caribbean!

In the next 20 years people will get fed up with T20 cricket as well. The amount of games and leagues will worn them out. Then we will see the era of 10 overs cricket and from then on the game will ridiculously get shorter and shorter until it gets completely naked.

Honestly It looks much better than t10.

6 wickets only rule is good.

5 overs straight from one end is interesting change similar to the hundred where fielding side changes end after every 10 balls.

Fielder penalty in last over for slow over rate is sensible.

Two sixes to unlock 3rd powerplay sounds bit easier. It should have been instead 3 sixes to unlock power play.

Public voted Free hit ball is bad decision imo unfair for bowlers.

If it is upto me I would like to add substitute rule where for last two overs both teams gets bring 1 substitution each for while batting and bowling where they replace current bowler or batsman if they think player sitting on the bench can do better job.

Most of these leagues are losing relevance now and will soon start to go bankrupt. Just a matter of time.

Good thing about it is that it's a small tournament for the fist season.

The whole tournament finishes in 5 days for both men and women's matches.

Men plays 12 matches and women plays 7 matches.

It starts on Wednesday 24 August and finishes on Sunday 28 August where Sunday is similar to t20 blast finals day in which both semifinals and final is played.

DAY 4 RESULTS:
Game 1: Saint Lucia Kings Men beat Jamaica Tallawahs Men by 8 runs
Game 2: Barbados Royals Men beat Guyana Amazon Warriors Men by 2 wickets
Game 3 Barbados Royals Women beat Guyana Amazon Warriors Women by 5 wickets
Game 4: Trinbago Knight Riders Men beat St Kitts & Nevis Patriots Men by 3 runs

The SKYEXCH 6IXTY party continued on day four of the action from Warner Park. With the competition really heating up and crucial results needed for qualification, the action promised to be blockbuster.

Hayley Matthews rediscovered her form as the Barbados Royals Women stormed to victory to knock the Guyana Amazon Warriors out of the tournament and book themselves a spot in the final. Her unbeaten 25 alongside leading run-scorer Chloe Tryon was enough for her side to chase down a modest target of 59 with 15 balls to spare.

The Royals were impeccable in the field bowling out the Warriors to 58/6 from 59 balls with Pakistani quick Fatima Sana impressing in the field implementing two run outs and taking the wicket of Chedean Nation. Only Warriors’ captain Stafanie Taylor provided much resistance with the bat, but she eventually fell for a well-fought 28 off 25. The innings never really ignited and was without any SKYEXCH sixes meaning that the match winner would qualify automatically for the final.

It was a relatively straightforward chase for the Royals who only lost one wicket – that of Shermaine Campbell in pursuit of victory. Tryon and Matthews played classy shots and dealt in boundaries as they raced to the target. They will face Trinbago Knight Riders in Sunday’s final.

Andre Russell was a man on a mission when it came to hitting boundaries for the Trinbago Knight Riders Men in their game against St Kitts & Nevis Patriots Men. Dre Russ blasted the ball to all parts of the ground and sky-rocketed to 72 from just 24 balls with eight SKYEXCH maximums and five fours before he was caught on the boundary by Jansen. The Patriots made a good comeback to calm the run-fest, meaning they needed 156 to win.

The carrot of qualification for the Patriots was also dangling. Should they hit four sixes in the innings, they would qualify even if they lost this match. With three sixes down, Fletcher thought he’d found the magic fourth, but was caught by Seales on the boundary. In just the next over, it seemed a done deal but some incredible acrobatics by Seales prevented the boundary and saw the end of Brevis and the Patriots were 44/3 after four overs. The very next ball clinched a semi-final spot off the bat of Rutherford and the pressure was off to win the game. Rutherford continued to dispatch sixes out of the ground and brought up his fifty in 14 balls. In the end he fell for 50. Jayden Seales’ expensive final over went for 21 runs but the Patriots fell three runs short in their chase.

The Kings clocked their first victory of the tournament in their must-win game against the already-qualified Jamaica Tallawahs Men. Roshon Primus has been in fine form so far and it was his crucial knock of 48 from 25 balls alongside a handy 32 from Johnson Charles that set up the Kings for their first win and kept their hopes alive for qualification.

Primus hit five fours and two SKYEXCH sixes during his match-winning knock and struck at a 200 strike rate as the Kings set the Jamaica Tallawahs 110 to win. Notably this was also the first time they had made it through all 60 balls without losing their six wickets.

It was a nervous run-chase from the Jamaica Tallawahs, who less than 24 hours ago scored a record 162. They now needed to make more history and make the tournament’s highest successful chase. They were kept quiet in the opening overs and, despite their usual big-hitting, didn’t manage a SKYEXCH maximum in the first two overs.

When Powell and Jangoo got going it looked like the Tallawahs were going to pull off some more magic. The pair brought up a 50 partnership in 37 balls before Jangoo fell for 44 with 19 needed from 10. Fabian Allan bowled tightly and picked up a wicket in the penultimate over and, despite a boundary in the last over, it was too little too late for the Tallawahs and the Kings’ dream of qualification stayed alive.

When the Barbados Royals men took on the Guyana Amazon Warriors, the winner would reach the semi-finals. The Royals came out on top winning by two wickets with 10 balls to spare.

The Warriors failed to ignite when setting their total and limped to 108/6 from their 60 balls. Shimron Hetmyer was notable for his 32 not out off 18 but they needed to bowl well to defend the low target.

Rahkheem Cornwall continued his notorious big-hitting when the Royals came out to chase hitting the first ball for an enormous SKYEXCH six. Mayers joined the six-hitting party and helped claim the floating Powerplay over, meaning the Royals have unlocked it in all three of their games so far. Having smashed it to all parts Cornwall was undone by Salamkheil meaning he had to go for 21 off 8. It was then Mayers who stepped up and put a huge dent in the chase with a 30 from 16 before it was finished in style by Bosch. The in-form player launched them past the target and into the semi-final with a SKYEXCH maximum, thus completing the highest successful run-chase of the competition so far.

The action concludes on Sunday with the two men’s semi-finals as Tallawahs take the Patriots while the Royals face TKR. The women’s final will be between the Barbados Royals and the Trinbago Knight Riders.

Who will be the first to lift the Universe Boss trophy?

Nah. IMO It's just a better version of T10 but equally pointless and boring.

gimmicks like Mystery free hit ball are just too much.

100 is a much better advert of cricket than 6ixty IMO.
