The Uber driver is identified as Subhakar Khadka.

A video of three women berating an Uber driver and one of them coughing on him, after he asked her to wear a mask, has gone viral. Journalist Dion Lim took to Twitter to share the video and details about the incident. The driver is identified as Subhakar Khadka.

“Uber driver Subhakar told me he picked up 3 women in the Bayview yesterday & after asking one to wear a mask was subject to slurs, taunting & one grabbing his phone. He’s taking a few days off. SFPD [San Francisco Police Department] is investigating,” she wrote while sharing the video.

In an update, she shared that Uber initially offered him $20 to clean his car. “Subhakar shared these images with me detailing how Uber offered him $20 to clean his car after one of the riders, according to SFPD sprayed what is believed to be pepper spray in his car,” she tweeted.

Lim also shared that after knowing about Khadka’s ordeal and the company’s offer, an early Uber investor started a GoFundMe page for him.

“An early Uber investor @cyantist has started a @gofundme for Subhakar. She was appalled to learn Uber initially offered $20 & ultimately $120 for his experience,” she tweeted.

Lim also shared that she called Khadka to check on him and also ask him how he kept his cool during the situation. In reply he said, “Because that is our culture. We respect & listen & that's all I could do.” She also mentioned that he thanked everyone who supported him and shared what he plans to do with the money collected through GoFundMe.

The video also prompted Uber and another ride sharing company Lyft to ban the customer, reports USA Today.

SFPD also shared updates about the incident in a Twitter thread. This is what they posted:

(1/4) The victim, a 32-year-old male, TNC driver picked up three passengers at San Bruno Avenue and Felton Street on March 7, 2021 at approximately 12:45PM. The woman in question also shared a video threatening to sue Uber, reports KPIX 5. In the video, she blames the driver and ends her clip by saying “That’s why I take Lyft.” In reply to which the ride-sharing service tweeted “Although this incident did not involve the Lyft platform, the unacceptable treatment of the driver in this video compelled us to permanently remove the rider from the Lyft community. Driving in a pandemic is not easy. Please wear a mask, respect one another, and be a good person.”

I was happy to mask up when I took an Uber.

Their company, their rules.

If it was a white driver, these women of color would be playing the race card, under the new BICOP umbrella term for victimhood.

That guy is supposed to be 32? Seems like age fudging is rife across India as well as Pakistan cricket circles, he looks older than Chacha Ifti, the renowned Islamabad United finisher extraordinaire.

Hard to get these uber contracts these days :))

She is of Iranian American ethnicity who speaks in a fake Black accent.....

Multiple times this week where I've seen women display an entitled attitude then cry victim when proven to be in the wrong. The Zomato example in Bangalore is another one.

It's getting to a stage where I don't have much time for their gender specific complaints. They've cried wolf one too many times.

This guy is from Nepal.

Poor guy, glad she got banned and that he's getting compensated. Though shameful he had to haggle with Uber, the greed of corporations knows no bounds.

Funny thing was she was trying to win the heart of a rival company Lyft but they too banned her from their website/app after that. :inti

Following this story on Twitter. Uber driver is pressing charges against these women. Two of them have been arrested by SFPD. Hopefully, she will be locked up for very long time. This wasn’t the first time she misbehaved with a driver, she had done same with taxi driver in Hawaii as well.

Criminal record in her CV is long overdue.

Uber facemask case: Woman arrested after video shared by San Francisco driver

A woman accused of refusing to wear a face mask in an Uber taxi and then assaulting the driver with pepper spray in San Francisco has been arrested.

Malaysia King, 24, is facing several charges including "assault with a caustic chemical", police said.

Ms King is one of three passengers captured in dashcam footage, one of whom appears to cough over the driver.

Police said that a second suspect, 24-year-old Arna Kimiai, had informed them that she would hand herself in.

"We're glad to hear that Ms Kimiai intends to do the right thing," said Lt Tracy McCray of the San Francisco Police Department (SFPD), adding: "We hope it happens promptly."

The SFPD said that Ms King was arrested on Thursday with the assistance of Los Angeles police officers. The other charges that she faces include "assault and battery" and violating the city's health and safety laws.

It said the investigation into the incident on the afternoon of Sunday 7 March was ongoing.

Allegations made by Uber driver Subhakar Khadka, 32, include the refusal by his passengers to wear a face mask when requested, an attempt by one of the suspects to steal his mobile phone and the possible use of pepper spray, police said.

Restrictions in place in San Francisco to help prevent the spread of Covid-19 include wearing a mask "to cover your mouth and nose" when within 2m (6ft) of someone who is not a member of your household, and when using public or "business" transportation.

Following the alleged murder of a British woman by a police officer, there has been an outcry about the way that women are mistreated.

Some 97% people of British women will be sexually harassed at some point, ranging from unwanted catcalling to physical abuse, to rape (of which just 1% of offenders will ever face jail) to actual murder.

Not saying anything like that happened in this case but to claim women “cry wolf” is ignorant and misogynistic given the sheer level of abuse they face.

If they require neutrals' assistance, ask them to sort out their bad apple problem first. Too often in recent times we're getting burned after placing our blind trust to one party of the story. The women being innocent until proven guilty doesn't seem to be the right way to go about things because some of them seem to have sinister intentions.

Uber offering him $20 in compensation is a disaster from a PR perspective but I wonder if you can really hold companies like Uber or Lyft liable for a passenger's actions.

Allowing yourself to be mistreated should not be justified by using culture as an excuse

Once it hit the airwaves, Uber should have opened their coffers wider, even if only for PR reasons.

Was this a genuine contribution to the debate or a deliberately incendiary post under the guise of free speech? I hope it's not the former, lest people have to stoop down to explain the physiological differences between men and women.

It was just a joke I thought, never ever heard of anyone calling women brave for hitting a man.

In any case, it actually worked out better for the driver. The gofundme campaign for him had something like $60k till yesterday.

Good for the driver that he got compensated.
The ladies should be made to apologise and spend some community service time in a Covid ward (ICU) of the hospital. Will probably realise the what and why of wearing masks.

You can face criminal assault charges for deliberately coughing on someone.
Using pepper spray is even serious. Assault with chemical irritant.

Hope shes arrested Some jail time would knock some sense into her big head and ego
